I agree with this being a very situational question. I feel that it depends highly on the person, their motives for killing, and how well they have dealt with their punishment. I do not have any faith whatsoever in rehabilitation in the USA's prison system. For one, in my experience, there really isn't any 'rehabilitation' occurring, point. Prisoners occasionally have the chance to learn new skills, but they are effectively useless once they are released since they are often considered 'unhireable' citizens. They turn them out very much like in the movies: they just point at a door and tell them to leave. Some might be lucky enough to have the money to make a phone call and have arrangements for afterwards. Some get turned out at 3am, many hours after they were allowed that phone call, with no shoes, no money, no phone, and no way home (don't get arrested for public intoxication on a national holiday, y'all, and no it wasn't me). Considering this, it's not surprising that so many find themselves commiting the same and/or more crimes. This said, I fully believe rehabilitation is possible. Even with our terrible prison system, strong minded individuals can turn their life around. x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x -Victoria shameless [CONTEST] plug
Eye for an eye. I think we should kill them. Not manslaughter, not crimes of passion, but premeditated murders should be hung (and pêdophiles)
No it isn't, that's propaganda. The legal system is overburdened because of bad deals and bad laws. Republicans want the government to hold less power, Democrats want the government to hold more power. 8 years of Democratic rule really fücked our laws up, but stupid laws are getting thrown out now every single day. Corrupt is not the correct word. Overburdened is.
I hate how brainwashed you act. It honestly makes me sad. Corrupt is the correct word, for the legal system does make errors. It’s also a mess and so broken because they put away innocent people constantly but let guilty people walk free, or have a minimum sentence. The Innocence Project is proof of that.
Warmth, you make no sense. Brainwashed noob idiot. Corrupt is not the correct term to describe when mistakes are RARELY made. That's just called a mistake, and sure, they happen sometimes. That's why we have an appeals process. If you don't trust in the law, then you should be a Republican. That's our claim to fame. Small government, let communities police their own. The jails are full now because of over regulation. Wanna change that? Kick the Dems out of office
A definition of corrupt includes “making errors or unintentional alterations”; the legal system is corrupt. There are hundreds upon hundreds of errors that have happened and will continue happening in the legal system no matter who is kicked out, unless you redesign the entire system properly. Stop blaming a party for the issues. It’s the entire system.
The US population is 326 million. Mistakes are a part of life, and that's exactly why we have an appeals process. If you're upset over hundreds of mistakes out of hundreds of millions of people you need to reevaluate your anger. The system is fine, we have the best system in the world. USA #1
My apologies, hundreds isn’t near as many mistakes they have made and continue to make. The system is fine.. yet you say we need to remove people like Democrats from it? Why do you contradict yourself? Either way, the system isn’t fine. Over 2 million people are in prisons, much of them falsely sentenced or accused. That doesn’t sound very fine to me.
The system is fine. Some of the people in control of said system are not, mostly the Dems. Look how fast the prisions filled up once the dems took control. Do you honestly believe most everyone in prison is innocent? That's really dumb. There is a burden of proof that must met for someone to be found guilty. And if mistakes are made, there is an appeals process. If you don't have faith in the law, wouldn't leaving the US be an upmost priority? For your own safety?
Where did I claim most are innocent? I said much, meaning a large amount, but I would never claim most or even half of them are innocent. Many of them are falsely accused, given too long of sentences, etc. That’s not a fine system. As I mentioned before, check out the Innocence Project. It can help show just how corrupt the system can be.
I'm not going to watch propaganda, and you should stop too. A handful of wrongly convited individuals does not mean that "much" of the system is corrupt. It means that those handful of people need to get a better lawyer and go through the appeals process. You got a problem with the mandatory minimum sentences, do some research into WHO PASSED THOSE LAWS! Also, you're DERAILING this beautiful thread. Kill the murders and the pêdophiles. End of story
I agree that the system is corrupt. I dont need to watch the propaganda to know this, as I see it happening in front of me. People get wrongly arrested, treated like animals (I'm talking sleeping on concrete floors, not eating, being refused medical care and proper clothing), and they get lost in the system. The news just reported last night that our local county jail doesn't even have running water. These jails don't only hold muderers and rapist (I care a lot less how they are treated), but they also hold stupid kids who drank too much, petty thieves, and many innocent people just waiting to see a judge and prove their innocence. Incarceration is becoming more about being a business than about protecting the citizens here in the U.S. I think corrupt is very much the correct word for it. x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x -Victoria shameless [CONTEST] plug
To be honest it really depends. If you killed someone because you wanted to what's going to stop you the next time? If you kill some one while drunk driving I feel like serve your time and have your license revoked for ever. If you do it in self defense or protecting your family I totally understand. Someone tries to hurt my children I'll be in green and they'll have a closed casket.
