Mandy's POV "Ladies and gentlemen!" said President Jordan. "We will now pick who will go to the middle of the country!" I looked over at Jake. He nodded to me, as if to say I had this one in the bag. "And....that lucky young soul is..." President Jordan started. "Jake Long!" I almost passed out. How did he get better grades than me!? This is not going according to plan. Jake walked up to the stage where President Jordan was speaking, pale-faced. "I have something to say," he spoke up. "Mandy deserves to go more than me. She's worked so much harder, and I think she could make the time machine." "Oh, goody then!" President Jordan said. "You'll both go! Come on up now, Mandy!" I walked up the stage and stood next to where Jake was standing, speechless. This plan was going even more perfect than I had thought. I now have a partner in crime.

Mandy's POV The unnaturally pink trees passed by as I sat on the train in my room, looking out the window. I decided I'd go and talk to Jake. We needed to talk about our plan. Well, except for Jim, but everyone knows how HE is... "I'm going to miss those two," Jim said. "You know, that's one of the most normal things I have ever heard you say," I said. "Well, that's rude," he teased. I was about to say something when two grown men approached us. "Jim Parker? Matthew Kelly?" the one with a blonde buzz cut spoke. "Yes?" I asked, concerned.
