It astounds me that you guys can't get free health care. What the hell is that about My friend was left in agony with a bloody great hole in her back whilst her insurers argued about which doctor could/couldn't treat her, whether she was covered etc. Although she loves America she actually wants to move to the UK knowing that when she's sick, she'll actually get to see a doctor with none of this. Another friend got cancer and lupus. She has medical insurance but the excesses mean that despite being a successful business owner previously, the extent of her illness (and catching MRSA in hospital) has left her bankrupt and having to sell the house. Ours sure ain't perfect but damn. Whilst I agree that those that drain the system are a massive pain in the backside, a continual argument here is the cut off point. (we have no money either and get 'health tourists' looking to abuse our free health care) Who should or shouldn't get treatment? People have mentioned those who take drugs or don't work. How about smokers? Alcoholics? The obese? All of those put an additional drain onto resources due to their lifestyle.
It passed as a tax, none of this Bill is free, there is a jail term if penalty is not paid, and if you think your insurance argued over coverages before...wait till you see what a government worker will say when justifying your output in society vs your cost to keep you living. Bt the way, insurance companies never referred to you as a "unit". But in the Bill, thats what you are.
As a government worker, I can say we're all excited to pass judgment on your value to society. Lol. Do your homework. No one on this thread qualifies as an expert. Not even me, even tho I hope to be on a death panel someday.
I dont need to be an expert to read or know i am about to be effected in a huge way. If we all had to be experts, then i guess we shouldnt vote either
Have you read over 2,000 pages of the Bill? Neither did congress or the Supreme Court and they seem to be "experts" but i'll gladly hear your view on the subject
I said nothing of the sort, Block, and you know it. In my mind, this argument comes down to whether access to healthcare is a right or a privilege. To me, it is a right, and so this law is -- while not perfect at all -- a step in the right direction. And to those who say they don't want to pay for loafers, you already do. They get treated in ERs, and pass the costs onto the hospital, who complains to the insurance company, who raises your premiums a little. The move to have everyone out in the open just gives them the dignity to see a doc for preventive care instead of waiting for something really horrible to happen. But again. I just work in government. I don't really have a clue how government actually works.
Reading the bill does not make you an expert, just like reading the bible does not make you a priest. I expected better from you, honestly.
Everyone has access, this is a strawman argument Abby, and you know that. Go to the emergency room and see if youre not cared for..its LAW already course they will charge you for it but most dont pay, thus another reason we s insurance rate hike
It would seem that ive struck a nerve, thats not intentional, but i speak my mind on few things. And this has a direct effect on me and my family, so i dont really care what anyone "thinks" about my view.
Insurance companies have their faults. But, you can switch insurance companies if ypure not happy, you cant switch governments, and thats who will have the final say in your "healthcare" issues. Remember, insurance is a business, not an unlimited funded body that has control over you taxes
You haven't "struck a nerve," you're just being inaccurate about what I've said. Disagreement is fine.
"Healthcare is a business." Yes. And I believe that is a great crime. Many countries do not cut corners to make profits on the health of their citizens. That ours does is not a source of pride.
I agree, not looking to argue, but i've had this conversation alot lately, and this is the start of many "requirements" to come....thats why the constitution speaks about govt forcing you to by from a private entity
Medicare is for the elderly (55 ) and certain ppl who qualify for disability. And not all elderly qualify for it. It is not a catch-all. Preventive care is a checkup when the pain starts. Done by a doctor. Who costs money and demands insurance. People often don't go because they can't pay. So they wait until the pain is excruciating to go to the ER, where the damage is greater, as are the costs to the system.
