Let's all calm down and take a read from this work of art. But the OP will probably just say the female author wasn't payed as much as a male author. Lolz
Here's why the increase in the minimum wage is good: In order to take care of anyone, even yourself, on the current minimum wage, you need government assistance. Essentially, government is subsidizing business to pay people poverty level incomes through tax credits, food stamps, WIC, etc. An increase in the minimum wage allows for less dependence on government to survive. Further, those who earn it have more income to pay into the local economy. For too long, America has operated from a top down model where we cut taxes on the wealthiest and this somehow frees up these "job creators" to keep the economy humming. Instead, the opposite has happened. Wages are stagnant, poverty and joblessness is increasing, and we are losing our economy. The taxes have plummeted by 2/3 since Reagan took office, but system unemployment and underemployment has risen while the cost of living inflates... And wages have not increased with the cost of living or inflation for 40 years. Right now, business is holding us hostage: of you increase wages and benefits, we will lay off workers... But in the meanwhile profits are at an all time high? Where is this money going? Anywhere but back into the land of opportunity.
They are strangling the wealthy at the moment considering they tax them in any way they can. If they'd loosen those strings, the economy would rise. Trickle down effect. It's proven to be one of the most beneficial economic plans ever created. The American government has moved away from that due to the fact Democrats have had control in Washington for a while. I'm not saying Republicans are any better, but they still believe in that plan.
Yes raise minmum wage and you will see prices increase. A 99 cents hamburger at wendys value menu will double. A $4 gallon of milk will cost $6-7, that increase in min wage just went in the toilet. Yet again Obama talks out of his ass and doesnt think of consequences. This will throw the country back further
Oh I was wrong. It is only for federal workers. Regardless, this still goes into factor for a majority of people living in the United States.
Let me correct myself, Obama will only raise minimum wage for federal workers. These are sewage workers, busboys, sanitation workers ect. This won't throw the country back because they do service for the community and require nothing, other than the tools needed to do these jobs.
Prices can only go up so much in a competitive capitalist system. Raising wages does not de facto increase the cost of goods and services. Wendy's can't double their menu prices without losing business. Nor can they lay off when they require certain levels of employment to operate. You can create wage parity by cutting wages of senior staff, decrease overhead, and countless other means. The idea that cost automatically rise because heaven forbid people not make poverty wages is wrong. Past instances of the minimum wage increase bear this out.
How about we elect a woman president. Then talk about equality....because I've only see male presidents so far
