And this is us going together before the bar where the costume contest was held. I did end up wearing tights because it was so cold. The skirt is made from the same canvas material and was completed in approximately 1 hour. Most of that time was spent waiting for the fake blood to dry. I will possibly post a more detailed walkthrough on how to do this, after I have tweaked it more tonight.
And this has nothing to do with anything. Except I said it would be done and so it has. All hail the rise of Pikamid Head
Wish me luck everyone. My friend wants to attend a party with me tomorrow and has commissioned (forced ) me to help him make The Butcher from Silent Hill Origins/Zero. I will update this if we manage to pull this off in less than 24 hours
The costume is finished. Would anyone be interested in me posting a guide on how to do The Butcher from Silent Hill Origins/Zero?
Sorry if I ramble in this walkthrough or am not coherent. I had to piece this together in a few hours and haven't slept properly yet. Please ask questions if you need assistance The Butcher: (the really last minute crappy version hooray!) Materials: Blade Scissors Glue gun Spray paint (black and gray, optional copper) 2 Bottle Caps Helmet Pool cue or dowel rods Cardboard Poster board or foam White or beige canvas Fake blood Black combat boots Heavy duty black thread Denim or leather sewing needle Coffee or soy sauce Sheer panty hose Time to complete: 1 day Process: Dax79 as mentioned in my Pyramid Head tutorial has also done The Butcher, but I actually worked on my own. You may reference his video if you'd like but he works off of a fan art picture that is based on concept art. Mine is more like a mix between the concept art and the actual in-game render. I was asked by a friend to go to a costume contest at a local club. To match Pyramid Head, I chose another iconic boogeyman. Now there aren't as many hi-res photos of The Butcher, so I winged it with actual in game footage and a mix of concept art. This costume took me a few hours due to us rushing. You may choose to work slower. First take your helmet. In my case, we had a cheap plastic bucket that people use for trick-or-treating. Cut this in half, length-wise. You may choose to make it simple by using a power saw, or else use a blade. Next, take a piece of cardboard roughly the width of the helmet, and glue it on so the bottom will meet your eye. For me this was 9 1/2". You may choose to use Dax's method of going lower so in the end the entire thing will rest over the shoulder as in the concept art. You also may do my length which is the in-game render length. It is easier to move around the way I am doing it. Cut out two panels like in the picture, and angle them up towards the edges of the helmet. This is also optional. This design only shows up in concept art and is not actually in the game. Now, take your foam or poster board and cut out the shapes of the panels. Do this until you can stack these shapes up to about 1" thickness. Glue these to the back of the actual panels. This is to give the whole thing depth, as if it's made of actual metal. See the picture above. Now. Take another piece of cardboard or poster board, the width of the helmet. Cut it to about 8 1/2" length. This is going to slide under all the layers so far and attach at the bottom of the helmet, or where your first piece of cardboard meets the helmet. Glue this on and then cut out jagged shapes in the bottom of it to give it that sharp look. Glue the bottle caps onto the tips of the panels as in the picture for your "bolts". Now this will be spraypainted silver. Layer over that splotches of black to add an aged feel. You optionally can add rust with a copper paint as well. Don't mind the awful picture. Because the helmet is no longer really resting fully on your head, you may need to add a strap. I did this by taking a ribbon and folding it in half. I glued the middle of it to the top inside portion of the helmet and then tied the loose ends around my face. It's not a great solution but it works. Since this is a much simpler costume and I was in a rush, you obviously can take more time. Seeing as it's already Halloween, you may choose to rush through it like me. I was fortunate to have an old axe sitting around and with the help of a friend removed the axe head from it to use as the handle of the cleaver. However, again a dowel rod or pool cue will work. Take your cardboard and cut out 2 copies of a 22 1/2" long cleaver blade. You may modify any measurements to your height. At the widest point it was 9" so it is quite big. The handle needs to stick out proportionately so about 14" is adequate. Cut out a 1 1/2" hole in the tip of the blade. Now just like Pyramid Head's great knife, position the two copies of the blade on either side of your handle. Attach these with glue. You will need to spray paint the blade silver. You can optionally spray paint the handle black. Simple enough so far, right? Now take your canvas and cut out an apron shape that comes to your ankles. You will also need to cut out two long strips about 1" wide. Cut out your apron, and make sure you have adequate room to attach it around your waist. Now glue gun the two edges in the back from just above your butt down to your ankles. Take one of the strips you've cut out and attach it around your neck. Glue gun this to the front of the apron as your neck support. Take the other and glue it from the right side of the previous strip to the left corner of the material just above your butt in the back. For once, a random costume addition is useful. This coincidentally helps the back part not fall down and have you mooning people Now mix up your coffee and soy sauce concoction and go to town. Soaking it in coffee will give it an aged look and the soy sauce is a really good "mystery stain". Also apply copious drips and smears of fake blood. When its dry you can take a blade to the front and back of it and create huge tears if you'd like to go the extra mile. With your black thread, make giant exaggerated stitches in the material. Nothing in Silent Hill is clean cut. Jagged edges and rips are good to keep the character of an otherworldly demon. Now getting the apron on is really difficult. The amount of room you have to maneuver in between the straps is pretty minimal. Make sure the strap in the back is behind you and that the back portion isn't sitting lower than your bum. No need to give the kids a show. Throw on black combat boots. You can douse your arms in fake blood. If you can stand it, you may find sheer flesh colored panty hose and wear that over your face, but it makes it really difficult to see. However it adds to the "facelessness" of The Butcher. You can also just paint your jaw black. I have seen some people do this instead. Put on the helmet, and attach it with the strap if necessary. Make sure it sits above your shoulder to allow you maximum movement. Then take your cleaver. Unlike Pyramid Head, The Butcher does not move as jerkily. He is still slow but not as slow. He is capable of quick stabs with the cleaver, so make use of your prop. And most of all, even if it's completely last minute, have fun! And for the love of god, take more time making this then I did. I rushed through this in about 6 hours!!! (minus time waiting for the paint to dry) Although none of my friends IRL play PimD, I'd just like to say to them that if they come to me less than 24 hours before the deadline, asking me to make them a costume like this, I will be very upset. And this is what they get. Last minute, very rushed, and sadly, not my best work! Pictures to come when he gets over to my house later tonight
Thank you I will post a picture later. Hopefully I can have both Pyramid Head and The Butcher side by side for you guys. Have a safe and happy Halloween you guys
Pyramid Head meets The Butcher Pyramid Head got a tad beat up at club number one. 3,300 people pushing and shoving did not a happy Pyramid Head make.
