  3. Update!

    ????????????????

I unzip the door of the tent and step outside. Shannon, Aishling and Liam sit in a circle on the ground, while Danny lies on a rather high branch of a tree. I smile at them, and everybody except Shannon smiles back, though I don't show my annoyance.

I take a seat next to Aishling, and she begins explaining what I heard them talking about.

"When somebody has a Flipside-Charm, then signs begin to show at around the age of thirteen. I am guessing that's when you got your burn." She says. "On the child's sixteenth birthday, they are visited by their local Flipside-Clan − that's us − and are trained to control their other personality. Once they are trained, they are to be taken to Linwa, to Lord Onyx's Castle for the Ceremony. This is when you fully become on of us. However, there is always a challenge − or something to complete once you arrive."

"What is that challenge?" I ask.

"It's different for every person that enters. Now, Shan will be training you−" Shannon cuts her off.

"What did I tell you this morning?! I am going nowhere near a Firecracker!" She shouts.

    "Why?" I ask, again.

"Show her, Shan. Show her why." Says Liam.

Shannon sighs, but edge towards me. She places her right hand on my cheek, and I can see her life flash quickly through my mind's eye. The fast-forwarding stops when she reaches the age of sixteen.

    ????????????????

    Shannon's Point of View

At last, Danny and I reach the Castle, and walk through the giant, oak doors. We are in the Throne Room, because I can see Lord Onyx sitting on a ornate chair at the end of the long room. Beside his are two smaller chairs, filled by young women.

We walk slowly towards the chairs, and I can now see who the women are. My mother and my sister. They are Flipsides, too.

When we reach them, Lord Onyx stands and walks slowly towards me. I can feel his hot breath on my neck when he comes to a halt.

"Well, well. Another Beaumont. I thought I'd see you here soon enough. Shannon, is it?" He says, and sweeps the hair off of my face. "My, you do take after your mother, don't you?"

He takes my hand in his and I can feel it begin to burn up. A Firecracker. I knew it.

"Your challenge," he begins. "Is to stay calm." And he lets go of me and walks towards my mother and sister. I can see they are chained to their seats.

He places his hands on my mother's face, and within seconds, she is a pile of ash. He does the same to my sister. But I stay calm, because if I don't, he will do it to me.

    ????????????????

Shannon removes her hand from my face, and I can see tears forming in her eyes.

"I am so sorry." Is all I say. Because it's all I can say.

"After that, I stopped eating. I wouldn't show my face in public. I became the girl that disappeared. The one who died inside." She was choking now.

I think of the large banner I saw in my dream, and I begin to explain it to Liam.

"So, the horses I saw coming towards me, they were−"

    "Onyx's, yes." He says.

"And Onyx is a Firecracker? Like me?" I ask.

"Yes. That means your challenge, will be harder than any of ours."

    ????????????????

    ????????????????

    Chapter Two

"Enlighten me," I say. "Why exactly are we in the woods? I have an education to finish, you know."

    Shannon glares at me.

"Because, now that you are sixteen, it is unsafe for you to show yourself in public." She says.

    "Why?"

"Because, you can't control your emotions yet." Explains Danny.

    "So teach me." I demand.

    "Excuse me?" Asks Shannon.

"I said, teach me how to control my anger."

I look over at Danny, and so does Shannon. He nods his head at her.

"Fine," she says. "But don't come anywhere near me with that skin of yours. Training starts tomorrow. If I were you, between now and tomorrow, I'd start preparing yourself. Physically. Mentally. Emotionally. Because I'm not the nice teacher that everyone loves."

She turns her back and walks away, deeper into the forest.

    ????????????????

That night, I can barley sleep thinking about what Shannon will do to me. She's a Channeller, so she might plant a false memory in my head that makes me angry. Or she might decide to pick out a delicate memory of mine, and show it to others. Shannon can destroy me emotionally, but I can destroy her physically.

    ????????????????

I wake up to the sound of something hitting the ground hard, and I sit up. Again, I am the only one in the tent, which signifies that I am late for training. Shannon will definitely show no mercy towards me now.

I unzip the tent and soon discover what the sound was. It was Liam, throwing Aishling to the ground. My first instinct is to help her up, but now I see her laughing, and realise that the others are training with me. Shannon walks up to me, and points behind her. I see ten buckets.

"Those," she begins. "Are incase you can't control your anger." Now I know what's in the buckets. Water. "If we run out of buckets, you may never go out in public again. Understood?"

    I nod.

Aishling gets up off the floor and stands in between Shannon and I. Danny and Liam fave each other, crouching, about to pounce.

    "Scared?" Mocks Liam.

    "Never," answers Danny.

And they're at it. Liam runs at Danny, hands in fists, but end up running into a tree. I forgot that Danny was a Rapid, meaning he is extremely fast. Danny is leaning against a tree about two-hundred yards away, whistling. Liam smirks, and suddenly, I can't see him anymore.

Obviously, both of their emotions were triggered before the fight, because they are normal humans when not in their Flipside-Charm forms. Normally, when you are in your form, you forget who your friends are. But Shannon being a Channeller has it's advantages, and she's planted a thought in their minds. The thought must be something along the lines of: It's just for fun. Don't harm your opponent. In order for this to work, Shannon must not break eye contact with them. I wonder who triggered her emotion?

Soon enough, Danny realises that Liam has disappeared, and he begins looking around frantically. Suddenly, he is doubled over in pain, and Liam reappears, standing over Danny, smirking.

    "Given up yet?" Liam says.

    "Never," answers Danny.

He gets up off the ground and aims a kick at Liam's leg, but misses. Liam smirks again. He hooks his foot around Danny's leg and pulls him to the ground. Then Liam punches his nose.

I notice Shannon has broken eye contact. She whispers something under her breath, and I manage to hear. "It's over. Come back." And she's looking at them again. Danny and Liam nod their heads. They begin walking to us, and I notice something different about them. Their appearance has changed.

Instead of blue, Danny's eyes have turned a deep crimson. His hair is now white blond, and he looks at lot more intimidating than before.

Liam's hair has turned green, and his skin is almost transparent. I guess that helps with the hiding.

    I turn to Aishling.

"What would I look like in Flipside Form?" I ask.

"There's only one way to find out." She replies. She nudges Shannon and nods at her. Danny and Liam are back now, and I can see Danny's eye colour slowly returning to blue.

Shannon looks me in the eyes, and smiles.

"Are you ready to see what you look like?" She asks.

    I nod.

    "Good."

She closes her eyes, then touches her left palm to my cheek. I can see her looking through my memories. There is nothing interesting for her, until she reaches that day by the river with Carl when we were five. Talking about the future. She can see my feelings about it. About what he said. How I want it to come true.

She smirks, and I can feel the heat rushing through my body. I temperature is rising, rising so much that Shannon removes her hand from my cheek. Everybody watches me as I get angrier. How dare she go through me memories? My private thoughts and emotions? How are she?!

Aishling holds a mirror in front of my face. I don't see Claire Wright, the small girl from the small town. Instead I see a merciless woman, with flaming red her and golden eyes. I am vicious. I am a Firecracker.

So, we've done a bit o' training.This update was sort of boring, but there are more to come! And just to help you a bit...

  12. Thanks guys.I might give you all some background information about the characters that I've been hoarding.Should I?

  13. Its so good

  14. GIVE US THE INFO D:<

  15. As you wanted, information about the main characters...

    Claire Samantha Wright
When Claire was just two years old, her mother died of Cervical Cancer. She had one sibling, a brother. His name was Alex, and he was four years older than Claire. He became majorly depressed by his mother's death, and rarely came out of his room. Two years later, her dad was arrested for drug dealing and murder, putting him in jail for twenty-five years. Claire then went to live with her Cancer-Fighting Grandmother. Her brother is now twenty, and she sometimes visits him after school when she can't face seeing her Grandmother. He knew how to cheer her up, and they were unlike most brothers and sisters. She's known Carl since her mother died, and he's been there for her the whole time. When Claire was fourteen, she started to develop feelings for Carl, but they soon died.

    Carl Benjamin York
He has lived with his Dad for as long as he can remember, and has not once met his mother. Despite his age, sixteen, his Dad still refuses to tell him why his mum won't show her face. When he met Claire when he was just two, there was something about her that drew him in. He felt a sort of energy whenever he was with her, and whenever she touched him. Now that he is older, his feelings for her are stronger, but Claire only thinks of him as a friend.

    Aishling and Liam Mist
From the start of their family tree, their ancestors have been Flipside-Charms. They went to a special camp to learn to control their emotions, but they also learned how to summon their Flipside-Charms at will. They live with both of their parents, and are the only children in their household. They are extremely wealthy, as their father is a surgeon, and their mother a lawyer.

    Shannon Alicia Beaumont
Like Aishling and Liam, her entire family are Flipside-Charms. When she turned sixteen, she discovered her Flipside-Charm, and went to Lord Onyx to face her challenge. She had to control herself as she watched her mother and sister being burned to death right in front of her. She hasn't trusted Firecrackers since.

    Daniel McAler
Daniel, known in the book as Danny, is the leader of their Flipside-Clan. When he discovered his Flipside-Charm, he was the only one in the clan, and had to venture to Lord Onyx by himself. There, he had to face his greatest fear: pain.

  16. Update!

    ????????????????

Today, it's my turn to fight Liam. I wake up bright and early, and the only other person awake is Danny. He is sitting outside the tent, his knees brought up to his chin, and his blond hair blowing slightly in the morning breeze.

"Hi," I say and sit next to him.

    "Hello," he replies.

    "Everything OK?" I ask.

"Just thinking. About my family." He sighs. "Claire, do you ever think about your parents?"

"Yeah, I guess− wait. How do you know about my parents?" I ask.

    He shrugs his shoulders.

"Shannon," we both say in unison. "She can hear me thinking about them, can't she?" I say.

    "Yes." He says.

I ball my hands into fists. I hate the fact that she can hear every thought running through my head. I hate how she can use my feelings and emotions as a weapon. I hate it. I hate her.

"You can't go back home, you know?" Says Danny.

    "Why not?"

    "You're too dangerous."

I slowly stand up, remembering my Grandmother at home, wandering where I am.

"I have to go," I say.

    "Where?"

"I just have to go. But I'll be back."

I turn my back on Danny and walk towards the edge of the forest by the road. My house isn't far, and there are two ways I can go: I can go round the shops, or I can cut through the streets. I prefer going through the streets, but the shops is quicker. When I reach the edge of the forest, I break into an easy jog, turning left next to the Post Office. I jog for about another two-hundred yards, then take another left at the Cooperative. Before I know it, I'm in Shamrock Lane, sprinting frantically for number twenty-six.

Twenty-four... twenty-five... I stop dead in front of my house. None of the lights are on, except the one downstairs. I bang on the door, and when my Grandmother answers, I fling myself into her arms.

"No time to explain," I begin, tears forming. "But I won't be coming back here, OK? I'm too dangerous. OK? Alex will come round every two days to check on you."

"Why? Claire, tell me." Demands my Grandmother.

    "I−" it's hard to disobey my Grandmother. "I can't. I'm sorry."

I pull her into another tight hug, and she hugs me back, her skin warming from the heat of mine.

"You are so much like your mother. Selfless. Kind." She touches a finger under one of my eyes. "And you have the same eyes." She says, and kisses my cheek.

    "I love you, Grandma."

    "I love you, too, Claire."

Now it's hard to blink back my tears. I don't know why I told her there was no time to explain. I guess I just don't want her to know why I'm dangerous.
