It was 11:55pm..five minutes left until the new year. "Hey V? Can I talk to you for a sec?" said Jon. "Yeah sure" I replied. We went into the kitchen."Before the year ends I want to tell you something." he said. I just nodded. "I'm in love with you. I've been in love with you since the 5th grade. I just never knew how to tell you until now."he said. I was shocked but happy. Mainly because I was in love with him too but I just never realized it til now. "I'm in love with you too." I said. We just both smiled and went back into the living room. Ten seconds left until the new year. we all started counting down. "10...9....8...7...6...5....4....3...2..1..HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!" we all shouted. We all hugged one another except me and Jon. When out eyes met, Jon smiled and leaned in. I did the same. And then, his lips met mine. His lips were soft. I had butterflies. He kissed for what seemed like forever when really it was only a minute. "Sorry. I'm stupid. You just got out of a relationship." he said. I just laughed and kissed him again. 'Maybe just maybe he is the one for me' I thought to myself.
The next day I woke up before anyone did. I decided to make breakfast for everyone. I went to the kitchen and started making pancakes when all of a sudden I felt someone put their arms around my waist. I jump and turned around only to find out it was Jon. "Jon! Don't ever do that again! You scared me!" I told him. "I'm sorry beautiful. I didn't mean to scare you." he said. He gave me a long and passionate kiss. I pulled away an smiled. "so are we like a couple now?" I asked. "only if you want to be." he said smiling. "Well you know I liked to be asked." I said. He laughed and said "Vanessa? Would you like to be my girlfriend?" I smiled and nodded. He helped me making pancakes. I had to make extra since he burnt the ones he made. Who would have thought my best friend would end up being my boyfriend.
I woke up the next day by the smell o pancakes. I went down stairs and found Jon in the kitchen. I walk up behind him and wrapped my arms around him. "Hey baby." he said, smiling. "Hey handsome. What are you cooking?" I asked. "Well I was going to bring you breakfast in bed but since you're awake now I'm thinking we should have breakfast together." he said. I smiled and nodded. We ate breakfast and then we just sat at the table talking and laughing about random things. Then I got a text from James. "Hey sis, gonna be home in about an hour or so. Don't forget we're re painting the house" it read. Damn! I forgot we were doing that.
