    The Forest
    Lucas' Point Of View

I was about to stop and rest when I heard an extremely faint retching noise. That was odd. Was someone... Being sick? It sounded quite human.

Holding onto a thin strand of hope I ran towards the noise, hoping to find Stephanie.

As I got closer, I heard more ominous noises. Growling and snarling. Noises of savage beasts.

I pulled out my favorite weapon, a very sharp sword that shone in the moonlight.

I smiled, leaped into the clearing, and got ready to kill.

What happened next was a blur of blood, gore and shouting. I had jumped into a crowd of bloodthirsty mutants and animals alike, all of them expecting a meal. I heard some more retching from behind me, and realized that Stephanie was throwing up in a bush. I hacked away at the vicious creatures, keeping them away from both of us.

I swung my sword at some approaching fox mutants, decapitating several at once. Their blood splattered onto the forest floor.

When she had stopped vomiting up the contents of her dinner, Stephanie stood up and looked at me. I don't think she recognized me at first, but it clicked after a few seconds.

"LUCAS!?" I barely heard her over the sounds of agonizing death going on all around us.

"STEPHANIE! WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN ALL NIGHT!? WE'VE BEEN WORRIED SICK!" I yelled back. Why on earth did she stay out here for so long?

She didn't reply. Instead, she picked up her crossbow, stood by me and started to shoot. Many of them had run away, but there were still quite a few to kill. When she ran out of crossbow bolts, I gave her one of my daggers so she could defend herself.
