    ~~~~~~~~Tina's POV~~~~~~~~
    I saw Ashley. Saw her fleeing through the streets, casting terrified glances over her shoulder. Brushing past people… feet pounding on the ground… a car nearly hitting her. She turned this way and that down strange streets, burrowing deeper and deeper into the heart of the city. But they had the advantage. They knew this city like the back of their hand.
    Ashley whipped into an alley, pausing to catch her breath. Then she saw them, lurking in the shadows. Eyes. Watching. Glaring. Cold. She opened her mouth, to scream for help. But it was too late. Before she could even take a step backwards, they lunged for her.
    "Ashley!" I gasped, sitting bolt upright in bed. I brushed away the beads of sweat trickling down my forehead. What was I thinking, not going after her then and there? I guess I was in shock, not realizing what could happen. I barely remember coming home and telling my mom and Luke about it. I don't even remember eating dinner…
    Beep beep beep. Great. On top of everything that just happened, I still had to go to school.
    But I couldn't. I couldn't leave Ashley like this, stranded, all alone in a city she knows nothing about. I had to go find her, and rescue her. And I already knew what city she would be in. After reading her note, I had entered the already dusty and found a bus ticket stub to Garden City, New York. That made sense. It was near Manhasset, where the North Shore hospital was located.
    With that firm resolve in my mind, I went downstairs, forcing a smile on my face and ignoring the worried looks Luke and my mom gave me.
    Filling a backpack with equipment vital to survival in the city, I left for school ten minutes early, in the hopes I would not encounter anyone.
    Upon arrival at the city, I grabbed a map from the nearest tourist site. Studying it, I could feel my hopes sink. Where could Ashley be? There were a million different places, not counting the fact that she may have left the city. She might not even know where she was. As I studied the confusing patterns of streets, I could feel my task getting more impossible by the minute. Which street could she be on? North Avenue? St Franklin Avenue? 7th Street? Summer Street?
    Then it dawned on me. Summer Street! That was perfect! It even had a cafe, and a park… she would probably be drawn to that street.
    Rushing to the nearest street vendor, I asked him where Summer Street was.
    "Huh?"
    "Summer Street!!!"
    Pointing to his left, he muttered something unintelligible.
    "Thanks!" I said, running off in the direction of his finger. He shouted a garbled reply to my retreating back. I could faintly make out the words "watch" and "cobra". I chuckled. There were no zoos near here or Summer Street to watch cobras in. That man was clearly driven out of his mind.
    Looking at the map, I quickly deduced that Summer Street was only a few blocks away. It couldn't be too hard to get there…
    But I was wrong. So many people were pushing and shoving, I got squeezed into the crowd and deposited a block in the wrong direction. Great. This was just perfect.
    No way was I going to let this happen again. I dove back into the crowd, trying to shove my way in the right direction, but once again I got swept into the crowd and carried off in another direction. Ugh. Of course.
    This time I was more logical about it, searching for the empty spots and dashing through them. Before long, I had traveled a few blocks. Pausing on the edge of the curb, I studied my map, so engrossed in it I didn't notice the out of control car speeding towards me.
    Hearing honking, I dismissed it as another traffic jam. Hearing shouting, I reasoned that there was another fight going on. The driver was frantically pressing on the brakes, but he knew he couldn't stop the car in time.
    Calculating my course, I nonchalantly folded up my map and put it in my pocket, glancing up at the car with a shocked expression. I saw the car's headlights glaring down on me and the driver screaming at me to get out of the way, terrified that he might hit me. Suddenly snapping back into action, I bolted away from the edge.
    I scrambled to safety in an alley, the car glanced off the side of the curb, and life in New York went on as usual.
    Still shaken up by my close call, I glanced around the alley. Two guys stepped out of the shadows. They grinned nastily at me. "Oh ho ho, what do we have here? A sneaky little spy. You just wait until Charlie hears about this."
    "Wh-what are you talking about?" I stammered.
    They glared. "You know what. HEY BOSS! Lookee here! A spy!"
    Charlie, their boss, slinked out from the shadows, joining them. "Why, a filthy, rotten spy. I'll bet you're from the Razor Fangs. Well guess what? Our gang is ten times better than yours. We're gonna teach you a lesson you'll never forget. Never mess with the Venomous Cobras. And never go into our territory."
    My thoughts flashed back to the street vendor. He must've been telling me to watch out for the gang, the Venomous Cobras. Oh well. A fat lot of good that would do me now.
    I held my hands in a gesture of surrender. "L-listen to me! I'm-I'm not a spy! I'm just n-not used to this place. Please don't hurt me!"
    "Oh of course, another little runaway looking for sympathy from everyone, everywhere." Charlie sneered. "Poor little girly, I guess you want your daddy to come save you now, huh?" He lunged forward, shoving me to the ground. I gasped in terror.
    "Not her dad, but maybe me," Luke's voice rang out in the grungy alley.
    Seeing that Luke was stronger than him, Charlie faltered for a second, but beckoned his cronies to surround him when he realized Luke was outnumbered. Bringing his fist back in preparation to punch, Charlie's wrist was soon grabbed and twisted backwards with a bone-sickening crunch. Chris had appeared next to Charlie.
    Seeing that Chris was even stronger than Luke, they quickly fled in search of more gang members to help them fight.
    "Are you okay?" Chris asked worriedly, helping me up.
    "Yeah, just a little a shaken up," I reassured him. "But how did you know I was here?"
    "That one's easy," Luke answered. "When I heard that Ashley ran away, I knew you would go looking for her. I called Chris and he agreed to go with me. Since my bedroom's right across from yours-I still can't believe you kept my bedroom all those years!-I heard you mutter Garden City to yourself. We followed you to here, and we would've been here sooner if we hadn't been pushed along in the crowd in the wrong direction. I told mom we would probably get home after dinner at the latest, so she wouldn't worry. And speaking of dinner, I'm hungry! It's almost lunchtime!"
    "But we can't eat now! We're so close to finding Ashley!" I protested. "Summer Street is right there!"
    "Tina," Chris soothed. "It's okay. Ashley can wait a little longer. How about we eat lunch, then look for Ashley? We can eat right over there." He pointed at a sign that said Mrs. Happy Gilmore's Bakery.
    "Fine." I grumbled.
    And with that, we paused our quest to find Ashley.
