  12. Actually, it's not. It's the density of the item floating on the surface. Buoyancy is directly proportional to density. Anything less dense than water will float  vice versa applies as well.

  13. Well metal is slightly more dense than water soooo....

    It's the shape of the boat and the air inside of it. The width displaces more water providing extra buoyancy and the air inside the boat helps float it. 
