Jeremy's POV "What are you looking at?" she laughed. "Sorry, you just look...familiar," I said. "I get that a lot," she laughed. "Really?" I asked. "No," she laughed again. "That's just what most people say!" I pinched myself, but I was still here. So...it isn't a dream? "So what's your name?" I smiled. "Alex," she said. "That's a beautiful name," I winked. "I'm Jeremy." "Cool," she smiled. "We should go get some lunch sometime." "That'd be great," I said, and gave her my number. "See you soon," she winked, and walked away. I looked back out to the ocean. Today had been the perfect day. The next day, I called Alex. "Hello?" rang a voice from the other end. "Hey, it's Jeremy," I said. "Hey, Jeremy!" I could imagine her smiling. "So how about that lunch date?" I asked. "Couldn't have been more perfect timing!" she said. "So, I'll come pick you up?" I asked. "Sure," she said. "Where are we going?" "It's a surprise," I teased. "You'll find out soon enough!" "Aww, okay," she pouted. "See you then!" "Bye," I smiled, then hung up. I had just met her, and she was already more than amazing. She was perfect.
Jeremy's POV I took a quick shower, and went to the mirror to comb my hair. I had to look perfect for this. I'm meeting the girl I'm going to marry one day. My neighbor, Max bursted in laughing. He was probably drunk. "Dude!" he yelled. "I just....saw the funniest thing." "What?" I asked. He went over and lay down on my bed. "A chicken...crossed the road," he smiled. "A chicken?" I gasped sarcastically. "Yes!" he shouted. "A flipping chicken! It had these huge sunglasses on, and when I saw it, it turned around and flipped me off! It's a flipping chicken!" "Okay, Max..." I trailed off. I went back to combing my hair. Max was...something. He's absolutely hilarious when he gets drunk. He pretty much does or says anything. But, sometimes, it's not a good thing that he's drunk. FLASHBACK "Hey, man," Max said, putting an arm around me with a beer bottle in his hand. "Let's go pick up some chicks, bro." "Max, you have a girlfriend," I said. "Boy, she don't have to know!" he yelled in a high-pitched voice. "God, Max, I know you're going to regret this," I said, shaking my head. "Don't be a party cooper," he waved the bottle in my direction. "Don't you mean party pooper?" I said. "I SAID THAT!" he shouted. "I'm gonna go pick up chicks." With that, he disappeared into the crowd. Oh, Lord, help this child. END FLASHBACK That night, his girlfriend obviously broke up with him. And, of course, he didn't know what she was talking about. "Max, you have to go home," I said. "I'm going on a date right now." "Woah, man," he said. "Isn't it a little too early to be asking me out?" "Yeah, I'm sorry," I rolled my eyes. "Just go home, then." With that, he skipped happily out the door. What a freak. After finally finishing getting ready, I walked out to my car and hopped in. In my rearview mirror, I saw Max yelling and pointing at a trash can. Or should I say, a "flipping chicken?" I drove off, making sure not to interrupt those two. I finally got to the restaurant, and saw Alex. She looked...absolutely stunning. "Alex," I smiled, walking up to her. "You look amazing!" "Thanks," she blushed. "I think I may be a little overdressed..." "No," I interrupted. "It's perfect." She blushed again, and I took her hand and led her inside. We took a seat at a booth with a view of the river. "This is beautiful," she gasped. "The view is only the second-most beautiful thing I've ever seen," I smiled. It took her a minute to think this through. "Oh!" she exclaimed. "Aww, you're so sweet." We both started laughing and talking throughout the whole dinner. There was not one moment that was silent between us. It just felt...perfect. After paying the bill, I started to stand up when I noticed her staring angrily at something. "Hey, baby," said a man, walking up to Alex.
Jeremy's POV "Hey, baby," said a man, walking up to Alex. I recognized this guy....no. It couldn't be.... "Max, I thought I told you to stay away from me!" Alex shouted, anger filling her eyes. "But, baby," he pouted. "I lov- oh, crap." I stared at him in disbelief. How did they know each other? No. That's a dumb question. They obviously dated or something. Why else would she hate him? "Jeremy..." he trailed off. "I-" He took off as fast as lightning, making sure not to look back and my and Alex's hateful stares. After a few moments, Alex finally spoke. "He and I used to date," she said, looking down and playing with her fingers. "Long story short, he cheated on me and broke my heart. Lord, I've never told anyone that. Not even my parents." She looked like she was about to cry. I quickly went over to her side of the booth and pulled her close to me. She silently sobbed into my shirt, and I started stroking her hair. "It's okay," I said. "I'm here for you."
