I couldn't sleep that night. No matter how hard I tried, my eyes never felt heavy. I didn't even yawn once. Meanwhile, Jade was talking in her sleep, mumbling incoherent nothings. It was amusing how silly she sounded. I groaned, rolling onto my back, looking at the indentations the paintbrushes made on the ceiling.I was so tired. And I couldn't even go to sleep. My parents would say it was insomnia, but I knew that wasn't the case. Insomniacs don't get mysterious symbols on their bodies. "Persephone…" I tensed, turning around. Nobody else was in the room, except for Jade. Was it her who spoke? She couldn't have. She didn't say a legible thing the minute she fell asleep- "Persephone!" "…what?" I responded warily, taking a step towards her bed. Jade sat upright, her eyes still closed. She was still sleep talking. I arched an eyebrow, reaching out to her. "Jade"- "Stay back!" she hissed, swatting my hand away with superhuman speed. Somehow, she knew how close I was. That was strange… "I didn't do anything." "You will." she muttered, before slumping back over. And that was when I decided to leave. I gathered my things, and silently exited out the front door. I couldn't get what Jade said out of my mind, despite her only sleep-talking, it made sense. I didn't even feel guilty. She would get an explanation at school. --------------------------------------------------- Short update. But I updated again below. And what's this? Sleep-talking that makes sense? --------------------------------------------------- The next day, I rushed to get ready, flying through breakfast and throwing my uniform on. I needed to talk to Jade. And I knew for sure that she'd be upset. So to talk to her, I needed to get to the street corner we met at first. I burst out the front door, tugging my messenger bag on my shoulder, and I sprinted down the sidewalk, my unlaced Converse slapping against the sidewalk, the aglets flailing wildly. At last, I reached the street corner, and I leaned against the stop sign to catch my breath. Panting, I looked up, and saw Jade walking over. "Jade!" I called, rushing up to her. She arched an eyebrow in response. "Listen, I'm sorry I had to leave last night." "You didn't even bother leaving a note." "It… it was an emergency." I said, cringing as I waited for her reaction. Jade paused for a moment, thoughtfully tapping her fingers on her chin. "Fine. I forgive you." she shrugged, and I sighed in relief. As we reached school, the awkwardness in the air subsided, and we were talking normally again. I lazily swung my bag side to side, and Jade opened the front door for me. "Thanks." "Don't mention it." she smirked, walking next to me towards our first period class, History. Ms. Dan smiled at us in greeting, and I sat at my desk, Jade sitting next to me. "Alright class, since we've started the religion chapter in our textbooks, today we have a guest to speak to us." Ms. Dan said, gesturing towards the door. "Now, can somebody tell me what religion we're currently learning about?" "Catholicism." the class dryly said in unison. "A nun has come in to describe what her day is like. Please be respectful." Ms. Dan said, opening the door. An older woman, dressed like a nun right out of the bible, entered the room, smiling at us all. "Hello! I'm sure you are all excited to learn what being a nun is all about!" she chirped, and we all inwardly groaned. I leaned back in my seat, tempted to at least try to make up for the sleep I never had the night before. But I was alert, and kept my attention on the nun as she walked to the front of the room. "…of course, I would say my prayers every morning. Would somebody like to come up to the front?" I noticed everyone nonchalantly sink lower in their seat, making sure not to make eye contact with the nun. Her gaze fell on me, and I silently cursed every swear I knew. "How about you, dear?" I sighed, and got up from my chair, striding up to the nun. She was a few inches taller than me, so I tilted my head up at her. "Do you know the rosary, dear?" "Ah, yeah." I mumbled. She smiled, obviously happy that I did, and she pulled out a rosary, despite her already holding one, giving it to me. My hand brushed against hers, and she dropped the beads, her eyes widening. I furrowed my brow in confusion. "Are you alright?" I asked. The woman blinked, backing away. I took a tenative step forward, and she shrieked at me. "Stay away! You have forsaken the path of what is right!" "…what? I don't"- "Her spirit is tainted with sin! She's unclean!" The woman rambled on, and the class leaned forward in their seats, their expressions stricken. She pointed an accusing finger at me, still shouting. "Those symbols! She is covered in unholy symbols! She is sinful!" "Hey! I never did anything wrong"- The woman brought her hand forward, striking me across the face. The class, including Ms. Dan gasped, but they were frozen in place. "Liar! Why must you continue to sin?!" she ripped the rosary off her neck, the beads scattering across the floor. "Repent!" The woman lunged for me, pressing the rosary to my hands. I cried out in pain, feeling an intense burning in my palm. "Repent! Repent!" Ms. Dan, coming to her senses, rushed to the classroom next door. Soon, a few of the male teachers came, and took the woman by the shoulders, escorting her away, despite her struggles. "She refuses salvation! She will be damned to hell!" she screamed, before a teacher shut the door. The students immediately rushed over to me, while Ms. Dan called the principal and the police. I found myself on the ground, quivering. What did I do? I never harmed her, I didn't do anything to set her off… "Persephone, are you alright?" "She obviously isn't!" Jade snapped, pushing through the crowd, and she took my hand, lifting me up. "Don't worry. That nun was off her rocker." I unclenched my hand, hearing the cross fall to the tiled floor. There was a burn on my hand exactly where it was. Maybe the nun wasn't that crazy. --------------------------------------------------- Oh. My. Gosh. Attacked by a nun? I wonder why? I mean, since Persephone's- *shuts up* (By the way, I never in any way mean to insult or offend anyone about their religion.)
Oh wow, I think the nun was crazy cuz they can't have boyfriends/husbands don't yell at me if I'm wrong or offended someone
