  1. Eyes of Destiny

    By: ShanaAlana

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Prologue
    The woman grips the arm of her chair in wait and fear, waiting for him. He is coming to find them. And when he finds them, she, her husband, and her daughter shall be dead. But her daughter is safely away, safely away with her uncle. When she is through the portal, then she will be safe for sure. But, even as this thought should comfort her, she is still uncertain about the outcome. And, while thinking this, her face contorts into a frown, worry seeping onto her face.
    "Lillian," her husband comments at the creases of worry on her forehead. "It shall be alright." He reaches over to Lillian's hand, patting it gently. Her hand is now trembling in fear and now he clasps it in his own, enveloping her tiny hand in his. At this, she moves her hand to hold his, gripping it tightly. She turns her head to her husband, her beautiful eyes now blurred by tears threatening to cascade down her cheeks.
    "But what if Elijah doesn't make it? If the portal closes before he takes her through to the second dimension, there will not be another Gifted." Her voice cracks at the last word, her words now sinking in. If her daughter is to be killed or not go through the portal, there will not be another one in her family line to have the Gift. The end of a Gift means that the kingdom will not be ruled by the veracious person. Visions of a new ruler flash by her eyes in quick motions, causing her to unconsciously take a vase and throw it into the wall with her mind. Her husband grips Lillian's hand and brings her back to reality.
    "He will make it. Do not underestimate your brother. We can hold him off before all the portals close. She is a Gifted. She will survive and she will come back to her kingdom to fight for her rightful place on her throne. If it be that we fight and survive ourselves, we can bring her back and she will forever be safe. If not, when she is eighteen, Elijah will tell her everything." His voice is calm, steady, confident, but only for Lillian's sake, to keep her from breaking something.
    "Henry," Lillian presses with a frown clearly taking over her beautiful face. She is known as the most wonderful woman in all the land. Lillian is kind to everyone, royal and peasant alike. Her beauty is remarkable to all. Her fair hair seems to be made of gold thread. Her smile is the brightest. Her stature is perfect. But her eyes are the most remarkable feature. First the shade is a dark blue, and then a bright magenta follows. White is the third color of her irises, and finally the shade is a sky blue. Her eyes are mesmerizing to her kingdom.
    "Lily, my queen," Henry tries to comfort, "it will be okay one way or another." Henry's face has aged quickly through a short amount of years. His brown hair has gray hairs from the stress he has been thrust upon him in the last year. His eyes are full of sorrow but have crinkles from when he would smile. His smile that was there for every day is now a frown, sorrow filling his every emotion.
    "Henry," she repeats, this time as a warning. Henry nods and releases her hand to take a dagger from under his throne arm, handing it to his queen. When she takes it, he holds her hand in wait. They hold their breath for what seems like forever, but really it's only a short moment. They let their breath go as they watch the doors at the end of the room open. At the sight of the man there, they stand and stare down at him, ready to attack.
    The people of the kingdom ruled by Queen Lillian and King Henry are excited and filled with joy. Their queen has had a child and it makes them all happy to know that there is an heiress. The birth had been almost a year ago, but people are still thrilled. These people are so ecstatic that they haven't noticed the man that doesn't seem to be from their world. They do not notice the daggers in his boots or the knives in his jacket. They do not notice the strange weapon in the man's hand.
    The weapon is not one for this world. It seems to be made of a type of metal and has a strange shape. It is in the shape of an L. Well, almost, but it is a strange weapon in this world. It is very uncommon. In fact, there is nothing like it.
    The man makes his way to the castle of the kingdom and that is all anyone sees of him.
    An hour later, a man on horseback rides through the kingdom, calling to the citizens of the kingdom. "King Henry and Queen Lillian are dead. The princess is gone."
    "Eli, hurry!" a woman frantically whispers. She looks towards a door behind her, her black hair whipping around behind her. When she turns back, her brown eyes are wide, scared of what could happen. Eli sends her a glare, not meaning to be hurtful, but because it put more pressure that he doesn't need on him.
    "I am, Cecilia!" Elijah hisses back. "I do not want to wake our princess. If we do, we are doomed!" Eli grabs a bag that is sitting beside him and throws it towards the mirror that is now a portal. Cecilia catches the bag and places it on the bed directly behind her. Eli looks down at the baby girl bundled in blankets in his arms.
    "I know," Cecilia says in an exasperated voice. "Just hurry, please; the portal is about to close!" Eli backs away from the portal and takes a running stance. He moves swiftly to not wake the small child and jumps through the portal, landing next to Cecilia. When he stands, Cecilia takes the time to study the man's face. His ash blonde hair has grown longer and his blue eyes seem brighter. He has a bit of a beard growing on his chin and she knows she'll have to remind him to shave later. The smile that she loves has been replaced by a confused frown as he takes in the room.
    "This is the second dimension, still?" Eli asks with a quizzical look. As he looks over the room, he glances out the window to see people walking by, talking with large rectangular devices in their hands that have been brought up to their ears. He turns to the walls to find a television, resting on a stand and turned off. Cecilia nods and takes the child from his hands. She removes the blankets and gasps quietly at the face of the little girl. Then she turns her attention back at Eli.
    "I'm going to take her to the crib in the other room." She gives Eli a small smile. "I have American clothes for you. You need to change out of the kingdom's clothes."
    "I know, Cecilia," he says with a sigh. "It will be strange to not wear my kingdom's clothes after so long." Eli pauses as a strange, heartbreaking feeling washes over him. The bond he has with his sister has been broken by death. The child in Cecilia's arms shifts, almost as if she realizes it too. "Lillian is gone." He reaches out to Cecilia, murmuring, "Come here, love."
    "I'm sorry, dear," she says and hugs him gently. When she pulls away, she tries not to cry for his sake. Cecilia hurries away with the child and shuts the door behind her, leaving Eli alone. He walks over to the bed and stares at the clothes. A plain red shirt, a pair of denim jeans, and a pair of tennis shoes are what she had laid out. He changes quickly and shudders at the feel of the cotton shirt, the denim of the jeans, and the strange feeling of socks and shoes on his feet, all scratching upon his skin like pests.
    How long has it been since I have worn clothes like this? Eli asks himself. Ten, maybe fifteen years it's been since I left. Eli sighs at the memory. Eli had left because he could not take the fact that Lillian was getting married. His Lily was getting married and he thought that the best thing to do was to leave and collect his thoughts. Here, he met Cecilia and, after he told her the truth about himself, they got married.
    Eli shakes his head to get rid of the memory and walks towards the door. He opens it to find a hallway and he sees Cecilia walking towards him. She takes his hand and leads him towards another room. When she opens a door, he sees a room painted pink and a crib at the other side of the room. He walks toward the crib and sees a small girl, sleeping without a care in the world.
    "She would have made a wonderful queen," Eli comments bluntly, holding Cecilia close to him. He frowns and watches the small girl stir in her sleep, seeming to know much is wrong. Eli takes note of this and knows that she will wake, either crying or a bit confused. It would make sense because she is the first born of the family, the first since Eli to enter this dimension, and to see Cecilia.
    "Yes, and she still will. Once she's eighteen, she can go back," Cecilia smiles. "She looks so much like her mother." The princess opens her eyes and looks at the couple, blinking as she looks at them. Cecilia gasps as she sees the eyes of the girl, noticing the breathtaking mixture of colors.
    "She even has her eyes, Cecilia. She is a Gifted." Cecilia sucks in a breath and nods, looking down at the girl. The princess blinks and looks up at them as if she's actually listening and understanding that they are talking about her.
    "What is her name?" Eli looks up at the question, his eyes filling full of sorrow.
    "Destiny; it's Destiny Iris Lawrence."
    'No... Not again...'
    I walked slowly into the dark hall, I could barely see a thing. I finally made my way into a room, then I heard a door shut slowly, but creakily behind me. There was a bit of light in the room. I was able to make out a familiar figure, looking her way around the room. I moved to get a little closer. Even though our movements matched a little, I got a better look at the familiar figure.
    A young lady with long, silvery, white hair was standing in the middle of a dark room. Her hair glistened, along with her glimmering gold armor, while bathed in the little bit of light that the room had allowed. As always, she looked like something out of a legend. I still couldn't see her face too well, but I felt the aura of someone who is determined.
    She walked along the edges of the room, placing something on a pedestal. Each time a colored light would go on, and sparkle, as if they were lights from a gem. After placing the thirteenth item, it started to look like a light show. However, the knight took a step forward then the ground began to shake! The knight and I tried desperately to grab a hold onto something. Next thing I knew, green flames began to roar about! My heart was beating fast, and I could feel the beads of sweat dripping down my face.
    "Ꭵ'ᏉᎬ bᎬᎬᏁ ᎳᎪᎥᏆᎥᏁᎶ, mᎪsᎪᏦᎪ..." A loud voice echoed throughout the place.
    'So her name is Masaka...' I thought as she nodded her head. I watched with anticipation. This is the furthest I have journeyed so far. We took another step and the ground shook harder! It felt like the floor was begining to crumble. More of the flames bursted out through the cracks.
    "Ꭵ shᎪᏞᏞ sᎬᎬ ᎽᎾu, ᎥᏁ hᎬᏞᏞ!"
    I felt a sharp pain in my stomach, I couldn't see the knight anymore. My vision blurred and started seeing red, I coughed some thick, warm liquid as he turned his weapon.
    "ᎽᎾu hᎪᏉᎬ fᎪᎥᏞᎬᎠ, ᏁᎾᎳ ᎬᏉᎬᏒᎽᎾᏁᎬ shᎪᏞᏞ ᎠᎥᎬ!"
    "He then struck them endlessly, ensuring that-"
    "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"
    I breathed heavily as I was startled out of my seat.
    "Ms. Tianshi! I am sorry you feel that way, but it's only a myth." Mrs. Beguila spoke out to me.
    My eyes were still wide and they can see the whole classroom staring and then laughing at me.
    I groaned and slump down in my seat. Exhaling with relief, I then sighed. 'Why do I keep having this dream?...'
    ~****~
    "Is everything okay?" I felt a hand on my shoulder after class.
    "Hey Kai." I sighed and then stretched back. "It's..." Well I could at least tell him this much. "It was that dream again."
    He sighed too, "You've been having that dream a lot lately. Maybe we should go talk to someone..." He paused for a second. Remembering that I didn't want to talk about it, especially after what happened in class. "Well, you agree normal thirteen year olds should just be doing homework, playing games, and dreaming cool dreams!" He then lowered his voice. "Not dreams in which you die..." He frowned a little.
    Kaiji has usually been there for me. As far as I can remember anyways. We've been childhood friends and I guess you can say blessed that we end up in the same class and same schools.
    "So what do you say Missy?" He smiled and then stopped in front of me to look into my eyes. His movement made his spikey, jet black hair move a little.
    He looked really goofy so I couldn't help but laugh. "Fine fine, I'll think about it." I smiled a little, "Let's go grab some food first."
    He nodded happily and we began walking again.
    ~****~
    Later that night he took me back to my room and then walked away, "Remember! Talk to somebody about it!"
    I couldn't help but laugh, "I'll try. Goodnight weirdo!"
    "Goodnight snorlax!"
    "Hey!" I puffed up my cheek then laughed. I could hear him laughing too and I walked back into my room.
    "Okay dream! I'm ready for you!" I exclaimed to myself as I was getting ready for bed.
    I slipped in under my covers and cuddled up to my best pillow. Unfortunately, I couldn't sleep...
    I tried all I could but nothing was working... Then a bright light shone through my window.
    'Is it day time already? Did I stay up the whole night?'
    I rubbed my eyes and slipped out of my bed to try and look out the window, I grabbed my shirt and tie just in case a new day was born.
    As I got closer to the window I could see the clock hanging on my wall a little better. "Hey, it's only about two am... The sun shouldn't be out."
    "мιѕιкι тιαиѕнι, ιт ιѕ тιмє."
