  1. Some of my favorite Lunar New Year memories and traditions growing up include munching on home-cooked bbq with my family, watching vibrant fireworks light up the sky from our windows or balcony, and, of course, receiving red envelopes from my relatives. ❤️

  2. I think the most common and my favourite tradition for LNY is definitely the reunion dinner (团年饭)where families father together on the even to have a meal. For my family, since both my paternal and maternal grandparents are still alive we have 2 reunion dinners. It's a good way to see my cousins, catch up with my grandparents, aunts and uncles over a home cooked meal of a lavish restaurant meal. Of course, meals are also different due to the upbringing of my maternal and paternal side but thats just what makes it unique!

Some of my favourite dishes/meals for the LNY period would be (not in order):
    1. Steamboat/hotpot
    2. Ngoh Hiang (Wu Xiang -> type of meat roll?)
    3. Fried bee hoon
    4. All the snackies (pineapple tart, crispy fishball, spicy mini springroll)

    I love LNY 🥹🫶🏼

  3. My favorite part of Lunar New Year is the idea of letting go of bad luck and welcoming a fresh start. The traditions behind it, especially the use of red and celebrations, make it feel hopeful and meaningful.

  4. I don’t know much about Lunar New Year traditions, but learning about it has been really interesting.
One tradition I found especially interesting is the importance of food and its symbolism. Many dishes are chosen not just for taste, but for what they represent which is similar to my own culture. For example, dumplings are often eaten because their shape resembles ancient coins, symbolizing wealth and prosperity and noodles are eaten as they represent long life and good health. It feels like sharing a meal during Lunar New Year is not only about eating together but also wishing each other happiness and abundance in the upcoming year

  8. For many, shopping malls are the heart of Lunar New Year, transforming into immersive "old-town" settings filled with tradition and nostalgia.

  11. While my family’s not Chinese, we still hold Lunar New Year traditions like giving hongbaos out to kids and displaying round citrus fruits on the dining table. We also have our own New Year’s eve feast. I’ve always looked forward to my Chinese friends handing out rice cakes to us. It just goes to show that the Chinese culture has fundamentally impacted our country’s history and traditions.

  12. Super excited.....
    I love moon cakes 🎀

  13. As you're all making entries, please be mindful that it will not count if you're on an alt, or if you do not answer the prompt! Just saying things like "I like LNY" are nice, but unfortunately do not meet the requirements to enter.

As a reminder players need to either:
    - Tell a memory of LNY
    - Share an aspect of LNY that interests you, or you have learned in quick research about the holiday

  14. I've never celebrated it before, but I would love to partake in the Lantern Festival some day - lighting lanterns and watching the dragon dances sound just as exciting now as they would if I were still a kid. The sense of community shared during LNY is really lovely as well, I love long celebrations 🫂

  15. Last Lunar New Year at my school, a lion dance group performed at my school. It was just out in the field and the large crowd did not know about them coming but like me were drawn by the anticipatory sound of the drums. It was so exciting simply watching them come to the center and the performers interacted so much with the audience throughout the dances! I even took group pictures with them in the end. The group had a TV performance the next day and it was amazing to encounter a humble friendly pasionate group get recognition. I believe the group is an academy and I can certainly see a kid there must have developed much due to it to be such an expert so young! I shall continue to watch and support them. I saw on social media where they have performance soon. Hoping to catch one to celebrate Lunar New Year watching them again!

  16. When reading about Lunar New Year it reminded me a lot of a festival called Diwali. As I was reading I came across how on Lunar New Year before it starts homes are being cleaned to take rid of all the negative energy which is similar to what we do for Diwali. Also I learned that you get money during Lunar New Year typically if you are unmarried or a child and during Diwali you also get money too. Something else I learned is all the lights and decorations that are set up during LNY and you see those kinds of lights for Diwali too. Learning about LNY made me learn how similar it is to Diwali.
