I stopped feeling scared of who I loved and just started to be the person I knew I wanted to be. Pride has always meant being accepting of myself and always being there for the people I love and anyone who needs someone who can offer unwavering support. However, this year itβs been pretty hard to be accepting of myself, as an American I feel as though Iβm constantly tested in my acceptance of myself. Life has been tough and scary coming into the year 2022 and I can only hope that with our uncertain future that we who are not straight in this country can find a way to continue to stand up for ourselves and the people in our lives. Our bodies, our love, our skin color shouldnβt make us a target for hate. Pride started as a riot when one woman of color had enough and took a stand. Pride to me means continuing to take that stand and defending those who need it. We are stronger than we are given credit for and no matter what happens next we will fight it together.
