I agree. The entire article that I provided is just a very interesting, informative read. I'm an American socialist. Ik communism and socialism aren't the same, but American propaganda lumps the two as the same so both cause similar outrage. ๐
So you're saying they can afford to go on longer holidays... But they'd get fired, have to find a new job, and then whether they could really afford seems a whole lot more questionable ๐.
Unions are ignored or criticized in capitalist countries like America because there are certain business interests that want to keep them held down. You were taught about them in school? What are the chances of that representation beig fair? Unions provide workers with rights and support. Currently, the Youtubers Union is making the world's largest video sharing platform a better place. That's your union history today and it's awesome to see. They lobby for workers rights to time off, healthcare cover, FAIR workplace liability, for how your superiors are allowed to treat you, and more. They're your best supporters as a worker.
Going on a holiday at all is a modern concept. And even then, it's only for ppl in the richer developed countries. I was just talking about the fact that no "poor" people in developed nations actually need to live in legit poverty because they all have access to food and shelter in some form. Whether they utilize their options or not is another story.
I don't think being overworked is necessary for escaping poverty or worth it. The stress on their health can leave them worse off in terms of physical and mental health than someone living in poverty. Impoverished people can be happy and live long lives. Wealth is irrelevant if you're not living well and unhappy. "Holidays" aren't a modern concept. The origin of the word holiday is "Holy day" . Like Easter, Christmas, and Halloween (which were based off of a prior pagan holiday), and many other events usually for communal celebration. These are as old, if not older, than religion. The form our holidays take has changed. The modern idea of a holiday where you just f off to some distant place for a few weeks and chill is modern, but communal holidays are very old, and that's saying nothing about leave from work. But the article that Hailey posted says something about leave from work QUOTE="Muschi, post: 5032437, member: 1320358459"]The average American has less vacation time than medieval peasants.[/QUOTE]
