writing

  1. hi everyone.

so i’m writing a fantasy novel and i’m just having so much trouble. i’ve written a lot but just ended up scrapping them since i didn’t feel satisfied with my writing. i’ve tried doing outlines but those never worked for me since i’ve always have done ‘flashlight’ methods (writing freely). i’ve already written like 3 first chapters that i just tossed away. i’m on my 4th time writing it and i feel ok about it but there’s this thought in the back of my mind where i still feel unsatisfied. i’ve compared “my work” (don’t do that) with others like george r.r. martin and grow so jealous because i wish i could write like him, in terms of his pacing, descriptions, story telling, and even world-building.

i think i’m great with world-building. i’ve already sketched out maps and already named some things, but i’m having trouble with depicting history. but i doooo have a lot of ideas for it, i just don’t know where to start.

if any of you have written self published novels or HAVE written, idek if there are any of you, but please leave some tips. help me out. and if any of you want some passages taken from my book to critique, please feel free to pm me.

    thank you ?

or should i just give up? i’ve thought a lot about that ??

  17. Find some mentor if you wanna go professional... or well you can just read tons of novels... by tons of novel i mean more than 50 novels...

  18. When I write, I force myself to push forward until a good chunk of it is written before going back and editing else I end up tossing it all out as well. When I edit, I choose small pieces at a time (such as one chapter) and focus solely on that piece until I am satisfied before moving on to the rest so I know I always at least have something, even if it isn't good. I also do a good-better-best method. If I left a piece better than it was before I edited, that will be good enough for me for the time being until I go through again.

  19. Perhaps read some amateur stuff and reach out to the authors?

  20. i reaches out to ppl on here who wrote/currently writing things rn and they’re being a big help. i sent things i already wrote and they gave advice and added some things :)
