So, a friend and I were walking in the rain like weirdos, taking a nostalgia trip where she pointed out her old apartment and all her friends old places. We found this adorable sweet cat on the porch of an abandoned house trying to keep out of the rain and it led us to this car that it apparently liked to hide under. It was noticeably skinny, missing part of an ear and kinda dirty but too friendly to be feral so definitely abandoned or something of that sort. We're taking it to the vet Monday where it will get checked for a micro chip to be sure. Anyway, I am in love w this sweetheart but my cat hates other cats so I am trying to convince my gf to keep it. I feel so bad for kitties, share your rescue stories or smthing, I am so happy I legit have found my soulmate in this cat
My first kitty, Pluto, (he just fell off the counter, actually lmao) was found under a porch with his litter. Their mom hadn't returned in a few days I guess so my friend's neighbor had asked her to help find them homes. I was just going with another friend to pick one up for her but, when we got there, these shitty kids were throwing stomping and banging on the porch and throwing rocks at them when they came out, jabbing sticks under the porch and taunting them. I was so mad. I ended up making them walk me to the house of the two kids that the others were visiting and telling their dad what they were doing, which surprisingly pissed him off, too. Anyway, we lured the babies out, Pluto crawled right into my hand and fell asleep in my arms and we found homes for the other ones. My dad said I couldn't keep him when I called to ask but I brought him home anyway and his him in my room for about 2.5 seconds before my dad's cat sniffed him out and my dad fell in love with him, too. Now, he just walks on my face in the morning and tries to trip me down the stairs like a regular cat.
@Sherily stories like that about kids (or just bad humans) harassing animals upset me so much. I'm glad the dad was pissed and didn't try to take the kids side and that it all worked out
Yeah, I was surprised because I tend to assume stuff like that is learned behavior but he said they had a dog who passed away so I think at least he was an animal lover. This was like 7 years ago so you just made me wonder how those boys turned out. I hope they are kind to animals now.
Mkay.. so I was like 6 or 7 at the time. La la la la la la la.. young me, running on the street kicking a soccer ball. As I pass this abandoned car, I can hear like soft whimpers. I got a bit scared cause it was late and I was heading back home. Curiosity got the best of me and I decided to look inside the car.. nothing.. just trash and broken glass. I could still hear the whimpers and finally decided to look underneath.. .. sure enough, I could see two sparkling eyes staring back at me. There was a street lamp that barely helped so I couldn't really see. I ran back home.. quick as lighting. Got my little flashlight. I headed back to the abandoned car, turned on my flashlight and pointed it to where the eyes were. It was a crying pupper. She was so so skinny that I almost cried at the sight of her. She had patches soft fur missing and just looked so sad and scared. I changed thenmode on the flashlight to the highest setting and was horrified at what I saw. The bones and flesh of her rotting (mother?) Just laying there. Anyways i took her back home, put her in a box with a blanket and gave her some food. I didn't tell me mother cause she would deffo wouldn't let me keep her, specially if she saw the state the pupper was in. The next day I cleaned her up.. fed her some more. My mom eventually found out butndidnt really make a big deal of it cause I told her I'd take care of her. I named her, Rosa. I took her to the vet, but the damage was too much.. she died a couple of months later. I did the best I could.. but even after all the pain Rosa endured, she was always happy and wagging her tail. She made me happy for those days that I had her. I could tell she was happy.. and that's all that matters. I just realized that I said it was an awesome story earlier.. but I guess that was drunk me writing. This is sad.. now I'm all in my feels.
That's such a bittersweet experience. I am so happy she had someone like you to make the last bit of her life wonderful and that she was loved. Rest in peace, Rosa.
@Papi that is such a sad story and broke my heart a little bit. What a poor darling, at least the last bit of their life was kind of okay as it got taken care of by you
You could always take the baby to the vet and then a rescue center, or find somebody who could possibly home the kitty if you're unable to convince your gf.
We are going to the vet but I have zero intentions of taking it to a rescue centre. We're gonna keep it until we find someone we trust on our own, rescue centers are so overcrowded and unpleasant and I'm not putting this precious darling through that
Something about parents that it's like they don't want you to get pets but ultimately they're the ones who give them the most attention and love haha.
I guess it depends on the rescue center. The ones near me aren't overcrowded and place their babies in foster homes until they're adopted. Maybe you're thinking of a shelter? But either way, giving the baby to someone you trust is great too. ♡
Okay so Scout is a rescue and so was Holly. We both got them from rescues groups but this is what we were told about their pasts (content warning for animal abuse): 1. Scout was found as a stray with his littermates and mother. Got picked up by animal control and dropped off at a kill shelter. Got rescued from there by a rescue group, but apparently at the kill shelter a bunch of the puppies ended up contracting parvo. A few passed away from it by Scout was one of the survivors. He'll be 13 in September. 2. Holly was voluntarily released at the rescus at about 6 months old by a man that openly admitted to beating her because she was not housetrained. She was extremely skinny too. Her back legs were very weak and stuff and the shelter surmises that she was probably pushed down a staircase a few times by this man. The back legs ended up developing arthritis (at less than a year old). We rescued her from the shelter. She was terrified of men and didn't warm up to my family for about a year. She was food aggressive and had problems with trying to bury her food. Patience paid off and she eventually became super affectionate and loved cuddling up, especially with my dad. She eventually trusted us around her food, but she would always be very food-driven. She passed away in January a month before her 11th birthday and I think she had a good life.
This breaks my heart. It's nice knowing they had/have proper homes for a while. Animal abusers are scum :c
Poor babies! I'm sure you made to be a wonderful mama to them both. I wish I could get a kitty but my dad hates them.
I'm about 80% sure the man couldn't face legal consequences for abusing her either, even though he openly admitted it.
