I would like to be able to say the day started like any other, but it didn't. For one it was only 67 degrees, a low for the normal winter temps of 80. For another Lilac and Jay were arguing, like old fishwives. Due to the low temps we were running in the daylight, a rarity because of the scorching light and hot sands. Normally we ran at night to avoid the Sun's rays that were jokingly compared to the heat of Hell. Even at night we got sunburn and our feet were always blackened with burns. Of course we ran anyways because we were conviced to make the cut for the Catcher Races. The Catcher Races happened every two years and were held for speedy teens in training to become Catchers of Slaves. I was looking at the blue sky when a person ran into me so hard I went sprawling head over heels in the burning sand. I opened my mouth to protest against Jay bodyslamming me when I realized it wasn't him. Instead it was Sniffer-- someone who catches suspected rebels and turns them into the slave departments. I tried to fight against his iron grip, only to pinned to the ground. Grains of sand digging into my skin and stinging my eyes. My arms were almost ripped out of their sockets with the unnecessary force used to handcuff me. Brute force yanked me off my feet and threw me a foot in the air. When I landed I yanked my chains away from the monstorous man. He flashed me a evil grin and dragged me to his horse, without care he fastened my chain to his saddle and took off to a place known as Knocks. Knocks is the place where they took rebels for a (un)fair trial and tattooing. I try digging my bare heels into the burning sand, but this results in a pain so great I see black splotches in my vision. I know not to run with cut heels and digging them in again would be stupid so I lay down. Not caring about the pain it will bring. I black out with the image of Narrisa's terrified face in my mind.
