Key's your average kid. That is until he climbs out his window one night and finds himself in a world completely different and yet exactly the same as his own. Three kids join him on his quest to get back home… But they also find powers within themselves, and must use these to combat the greatest evil both worlds have ever known.

    Introduction

Darkness... No, now there's a light. There's a light ahead of me. Hmm, it doesn't seem like I have any other choice... I'll just step forward, whoa! There's no floor... This is so strange. I feel this great need to step forward to the light... Oh damn, this is so annoying. I want to get there, how do I get there? Where am I anyway? Am I dreaming? I must be dreaming. Well, I wonder why I'm dreaming about this weird... Place... No, no, I can't get distracted. How do I get over there...? I guess I'll just jump...

Key opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling. The stickers of stars and planets glowed down at him. He looked over to the window without moving his head. His eyes caught sight of something dark red gleaming from outside. He slowly sat up, pushing the covers away from him. He swung his legs over the side of the bed and stood, cringing as his feet touched the cold floor. He hurried over to the window and shivered as he felt the cool night air seeping through the glass. The gleam was still there so he opened the window tentatively and climbed up onto the windowsill. He truly wasn't sure why he was doing this; being brave wasn't exactly something he was known for.

Key stared at the branches of the tree that were reaching towards his window. He knew that the tree was sturdy, but he wasn't sure what that red glow was. His mind seemed to block that out and he gave a little push with his hands and managed to grab onto the branch. He gave a sigh of relief as he hung from the branch and struggled to pull himself onto it. The rough bark scraped against his exposed skin since his pajamas were a little too small for him. The red glow seemed to be calling to him as he sat on the branch, catching his breath. He stood up carefully, balancing as he made his way to the trunk of the tree. He slipped only once, but that unnatural courage surged through his veins and he had easily pulled himself up once again.

He finally reached the trunk of the tree and saw that the glow was higher up than he had remembered. He reached up, on the tips of his toes. The cold no longer seemed that obvious and the darkness seemed to have faded. He still couldn't reach, even though he stretched himself as tall as he could to try. His fingertips grasped the air angrily as he cursed his height. He wasn't short for his age, but he really wished he was taller. He sighed and was about to give up when the bravery came back. He gave a jump and tried to grab it. He missed and screamed as he almost fell from the tree altogether. He managed to hang onto the tree and cursed his body for doing what it had. He pulled himself back up and sat there, staring up at the glow.

"What am I supposed to do? What is it anyway? Why do I want it?" he asked himself. He wasn't expecting an answer, but he got one.

Jump higher, come and claim me. Come now Key...

He blinked in surprise and found his body was once again standing. He crouched, ready to leap. He sprung himself into the air and his fingers were illuminated for a second by the red glow before he fell back to the branch. He cursed softly and stood again, his heart racing with fear, surprise, and annoyance. He leapt into the air again, and this time he grabbed onto a solid object. He smiled in triumph and then shrieked as he fell to the ground, missing the branch completely.

Somewhere on the other side of the world, a girl stared up at the sky. She was leaning against a tree in her backyard, smiling at the bright sun. She closed her eyes and breathed in the cool air. It felt so wonderful to be outside, but then again she always loved the outdoors. She heard a soft mewl and looked over to the porch. Her cat was sitting behind the glass doors, waiting impatiently to be let out. The girl laughed softly and got to her feet.

"You can't come out," she said. "You'll run away." The cat looked up at her as she approached, big blue eyes protesting. The girl laughed again and crouched down on the other side of the glass. "I really would let you out if I could. Mom would be really sad if you ran away though." The cat seemed to huff and it got up, walking away stiffly with its tail in the air.

The girl turned with a sigh and leaned against the smooth glass. She closed her eyes as the sunlight filtered through the leaves of a tree. It cast strange and beautiful patterns on the porch and her face. She drifted off into a dream.

Waves... Beautiful waves. Lapping against the sand like a teasing lover, only to retreat as the sand hardened under its wet caress. Footsteps draw me closer to the edge; it's confusing as to where I am... I thought I was somewhere else. The water feels nice. I think I'll go for a swim. I don't know what I'm wearing, but I suppose whatever I am wearing is fine. It's sort of cold, but it still feels really nice. It's beautiful actually. Dark blue and green, mixed with clear sapphire and emerald, shining with light shimmering aquamarine... Tired... Sleep; slipping beneath the surface, but it's okay... There's something waiting for me down here-

The girls' eyes snapped open in surprise and she pushed away from the doors, staring at seemingly nothing. She moved forward sluggishly as if wading through waist-high mud. Her mother looked out the doors, and saw her daughter acting strange. She moved to open the doors but backed away in surprise as the door sparked angrily.

"Miria!" the woman called to her daughter. Miria did not respond, continuing to walk towards the edge of the porch. She stepped up onto the bench and spread her arms wide. "MIRIA!" her mother screamed.

Miria looked over her shoulder briefly before falling forward, over the edge of the porch. A soft blue glow covered her before she reached forward and grabbed onto a solid object within the strange glow. Her mother grabbed for the door, wrenching it open in fear. She ran out and looked over the edge of the porch, praying that Miria was all right.

Rev yawned as he stared out the window of his classroom. He faintly heard the blabbering of his teacher, but tuned it out automatically. He didn't like listening to things he would have no use of later on in life. At least that was his excuse. He really was too lazy to do the work. He wasn't lazy in other things though. He sighed loudly as his teacher continued with the lesson. The teacher Ms. Walker, paused and looked over at Rev with a frown.

"Can't you at least pretend to pay attention, Rev?" she asked disappointedly. Rev never paid attention to her class and she constantly tried to make it more interesting. She believed that all students should have a chance... This was getting out of hand though. "Please?"

Rev didn't respond. She wasn't even sure he had heard her at all. She moved over to his desk, ready to shake him. He stood though, surprising her. His gaze seemed fixated on something outside. He looked over at her without seeming to see her. "Ms. Walker, I'm sorry but I have to go." he said quickly before bolting out the door and down the hall.

Ms. Walker blinked in surprise before rushing to the door to look after him. "Rev! Come back here this instant!"

He didn't seem to hear her and turned the corner, heading for the exit. Ms. Walker knew she couldn't catch him (especially with her blasted high heels). She hurried to the window, and so did most of the class. This was the most exciting thing to happen the whole school year. They saw Rev's lithe form move across the school grounds below. Ms. Walker gave it one last shot and called to him. He turned and looked up at the window. He waved, still running though now backwards. She could have sworn he winked and she held back the urge to curse violently.

Rev headed towards the jungle gym. He hadn't been on it in a while, but he climbed up the ladder and stared curiously at the faint purple glow that seemed to be hanging in the air. It was holding something, so he reached out to touch it. His eyes closed as the light got brighter and he held his breath. A soft voice came to his ears, and he opened his eyes.

A field of gold and green. It's so breathtaking. I wonder where I am though... I can't be at school. Ha-ha, I can't believe I even thought that. Hey, there's something up ahead. W-What is that? I wonder what that strange glow is. I guess I'll go towards it since there's nothing else here- Holy Jesus! Where did the ground go? Oh my lord, I'm falling. I'm going to die; I just know I am... Well world, it's been really great but... Hmm... I don't know why, but suddenly I'm not afraid anymore. Hey look, there's that light again...

Rev clasped his fingers around something solid and smiled as he felt warmth rush through him. Ms. Walker growled angrily. That was the last straw. She was going to call his parents, but first, she was going to march right down there and get that little troublemaker. She headed out of the classroom, warning the children that if they dared step foot outside... The class obeyed, never having seen Ms. Walker this angry before.

Kaizen glowered at the rising sun. He hated the daytime. He knew that as soon as he went to school those weird visions would start again. He sighed, as he also knew that there was nothing he could do to stop them. He didn't feel the least bit tired from staying up all night. He wondered briefly if he could pretend to be sick. He wasn't sure if he would still have the visions if he weren't in school, in that crowded environment, with all those people... He sighed and shook his head. Of course he couldn't do that.

He heard a noise and got up from where he had been perched on the windowsill. He stood straight and looked at his bed. The noise seemed to be coming from there. It was like a humming sound. He stalked over to the bed, but his annoyance faded into insecurity. He slowed his pace and lightly stepped to the side of his bed. He carefully lifted the blanket and peered underneath it. A bright green light surprised him and he dropped the blanket. He backed away in fear.

Kai... Kaizen a voice whispered, Don't fear me, just come and embrace my power...

Kaizen blinked and then stepped forward warily. He wasn't sure what was going on, and he knew he didn't like this anymore than his visions. He lifted the covers again and stared at the glowing orb of green light. He reached for it, wincing as if in pain. He didn't like what he was doing and he gasped as a tingling sensation wound up his arm and squeezed gently.

Ahh! No, now where am I? I knew I shouldn't have trusted that voice! What am I going to do...? No wait, first where am I? It's like a forest. Hn... It's pretty I suppose. These trees look really old. They're really strong though, I can tell. They feel nice. I wonder if I climb one, maybe I could see where I am. I guess it won't hurt to try. Hey, I never knew climbing a tree was so easy. Well, I still can't see where I am. Hnn... Oh, there's that glow. I really don't want to do this, but I don't see any other choices. I can only hope it'll send me back to my house. Heh, what a strange thing to think. I actually want to go back so I can go to school...

A sultry voice floated through the air and the boy stared at the television screen. It wasn't unusual for the boy to be watching TV at this time. He had already finished his homework and felt that it was his right to do what he wanted to. He stared with disinterest as the singer danced around seductively. 'She looks like a flailing chicken.' he thought with annoyance. He smirked as the singer continued her song. 'She sounds like a donkey.' The song ended and after a little bit, another one started. He stared at the new singer from his position, slouched down in the couch that seemed to enjoy sucking him deep into its interior. The new singer started a slow song and he tuned it out.

The boy pulled himself from the couch and stared over at the window. He was surprised to see four lights spiraling to the sky. He ran to the window and stared in wonder at the beautiful streaks. They looked like colored lightning as they zigzagged across the darkening sky. He could make out the colors. A dark blue that shimmered with lighter blues and greens, a lovely purple that sparkled from lilac to plum, and a green color that shimmered with lighter and darker shades of green as well as a brilliant gold. They all spiraled around a red one that shot straight up into the sky. The red was a remarkable color, regal and strong, it was unlike anything the boy had seen before. There were no ways to describe it.

Then, he saw something strange out of the corner of his eye. He looked over and saw a silver light curving towards the sky as well, spiraling and making strange patterns, leaving black and light trails behind. It sparkled and shimmered violently, sending showers of sparks to the ground below. The boy stared in awe, unable to tear his eyes away. He ran off to tell his mother as fast as he could. When he came back he saw that across the street a few people were squished against the window, looking at the lights as well. The boy smiled softly as he saw the lights finally disappear into the clouds far above.

"They were really pretty..." he murmured.

Key winced as he kept falling, expecting to hit the ground. When he landed on something soft, he dared to open his eyes. He was on a puffy surface. If he hadn't known it wasn't possible, he'd have guessed that it was a cloud. He got up the courage and looked over the edge of the puffy pink surface. He saw nothing below him, but heard a gasp of surprise from above him. He saw a light blue 'cloud' heading his way. He saw a girl with blonde hair in a ponytail and blue eyes sitting on it and feeling the cloud beneath her. He heard a voice talking softly to his left and he looked over and saw a lilac cloud. On it was a boy. He had long black hair that was twisted messily around his arms and dark chocolate eyes. He was looking around him in awe.

Key looked straight up and saw a pale green cloud coming straight down. He had to wait a few seconds before the cloud swerved ever so slightly to the side and missed him. A boy with short dark brown hair sat on it. His cold grey eyes glared right at Key and Key blinked in surprise. The boy snorted and looked away and Key sighed. Key ran his fingers through his short fiery hair and blinked his bright green eyes. A flash of lightning spooked everyone except the 'scary' boy, and everyone looked up. A gray cloud descended slowly, sparking with black and white energy. Silver sparks rained down on the four and Key covered his head with his arms.

"W-What is going on?" he heard the girl gasp.

Key and the others had no answer for her. The clouds continued to descend and they finally stopped, hovering a few inches from solid ground. Key looked at the ground and sighed. He slowly climbed off of the cloud and brushed some of the fluffy pieces of cloud off of him. He looked over at the other three. The gray cloud continued to hover above them. Key saw a hand dangling off the edge, but it seemed as if the cloud had no intention of letting its passenger off.

Key decided to take a closer look at the people that were getting off their respective clouds. The girl was a little shorter than him, the black-haired boy was about the same height as him, and the... other boy, was taller than him. He supposed that since the others seemed to not know where they were either, he should go talk to them. He felt a little hesitant though. He wasn't sure if they would be nice or... well, not nice.

"Well, that wasn't so pleasant." the girl said.

The black-haired boy grinned. "No, it wasn't. I don't wanna go on that ride again. The clouds were nice, but the sparky one...? Geh..."

"Hey, is everyone alright?" the girl asked, looking around at Key and the other boy.

"I'm fine." Key answered. The other boy ignored her.

Hey, you shouldn't be so cold." the long-haired boy said, slightly annoyed. "Hey, I'm talking to you!"

"I can hear you just fine." the boy said coldly. "You don't have to yell."

The long-haired boy sighed. "Gee... so mean..."

"I wonder where we are." Key said, walking towards the others. "By the way, my name's Key."

"Oh, I forgot totally about our names." the girl said with a giggle. "Hey, I'm Miria."

"I'm Rev," the talkative boy said. "And as for Mr. Silent over there, I bet his name's-"

"I'm Kaizen," the boy said quickly. "Please, do not pervert my name..."

Rev smirked. "Really, well I did have a few suggestions..."

Key smiled to himself. Then he looked around, slightly worried. "Well, I don't know where we are, but we might as well start looking for a way back from wherever we came from."

Miria stared for a moment as if in a trance and then laughed softly. "I guess it's a miracle we all speak the same language."

Key blinked in surprise. He hadn't thought about that. "You're right! I don't think we're all from the same place though..."

    "Where are we...?"

Key started walking forward and noticed that in this seemingly vertical tunnel, the shadows seemed capable of moving on their own. He saw a pathway ahead and pointed to it. "Maybe that's a way out!"

Miria clapped her hands together in delight. "I didn't even see that!"

Key smiled and walked through the tunnel. The other three followed. He glanced back and saw that the 'violent' cloud still hovered there, almost as if waiting for them to leave. He continued and saw a light up ahead. He began running, but wasn't sure why. The others ran also, perhaps because he had started or maybe because they felt that unexplainable pull as well. He emerged in blinding light, but didn't cringe. He stared straight ahead and saw bright red and orange flames reaching for the... well, for something above him that he could not see.

Key felt like he was in a trance as the flames burned cold white and blue in the deep middle, beckoning him forward with tendrils of gold and yellow. He let out a sigh of satisfaction as he walked towards the burning fire. He heard soft voices in his head but tuned them out. They weren't important anymore. Instinct took over and he didn't have to listen to the instructions.

    -ホヒカエン...-

"ホヒカエン..." Key murmured, repeating the word that had appeared in his mind. "Come to me..." His voice dropped to a whisper, "I command you to... give me your power..."

"Key!" Miria screamed as Key disappeared in a blinding light.

A ferocious wind blew around the group and Key felt himself being lifted up into the air. He found himself staring right into burning red eyes. He felt strangely giddy and slightly delirious. He reached forward as if to touch the person that the eyes had to belong to. He felt nothing there. The eyes were the only things there. He giggled insanely, wondering what was going on. He heard a voice calling his name from below, but he wasn't sure if that was even his name anymore.

    -Give me your power!-

Key shrieked and the wind seemed to become even more powerful, blowing the flames around him. Strangely, they didn't touch his body, but went around him. He felt comfortably warm despite the impossible heat. He saw a flash of red hair that was streaked with gold and orange, like fire. He reached out towards the eyes again and felt a strong body. He sighed in relief, feeling sanity returning. It came with a violent jolt and Key felt like his soul had been ripped from his body. He gasped in pain but a soothing touch ran over his chest and stomach and he let out a breath of relief.

"I-I'm okay." he said to himself.

He felt himself float back to the ground and was relieved to see that the others were okay. However, they had different feelings about him. Miria ran up to him and pounded on his chest angrily. "What did you do with Key? Bring him back now!"

"Wh-What do you mean Miria?" Key asked, wondering why he didn't seem to feel her fists.

Miria blinked up at him and Key... well, Key was surprised, and stared down at Miria... way down. He blinked as she had and then looked at his hands. His hands were covered in a soft but tough armor. They were gold like the flames had burned. On the back were silver thorns protruding from where his knuckles would be. His wrists were also covered in the golden armor, but they had bright red rings in them. His arms were covered by the same kind of armor, but from the shoulder to the elbow it was hard like metal. The color was different too. They were a dark red.

"Oh my god!" Key said, his voice seeming deeper, but still the same.

    "K-Key?" Miria said in disbelief.

Key looked down at the rest of his body. His feet were now in big, heavy boots, the same color as his gloves. They had buckles of bronze and laces of silver. His legs were cloaked in leather pants the same dark red color as the hard armor and had designs of flames in gold. His chest was covered by the hard armor, but it was gold, and he had a light shirt underneath that was a bright orange. Around his waist was a thick belt that was as dark as the midnight sky and had silver buckles. A dark red sheath held a large sword and Key pulled it out in fascination.

The sword had a gold hilt that was engraved with red, orange, and yellow spirals that described flames. They flashed in the light as Key turned it about. The blade was long and shining silver, and blue and white engravings marked it as well, the same flame patterns as were on the hilt. Key felt a strange burning sensation in his hands and he dropped the sword. It clattered to the ground noisily and Miria and Rev subconsciously backed away. Key wanted to step forward and have them help him, but he figured that they had a good reason to be afraid. Hell, he was petrified.

"I-It's okay..." he said to himself more than to the three watching him. "I-I can handle t-this!"

    "What's wrong?" Rev asked softly.

"I don't k-know..." Key murmured softly, his hands burning even worse. It didn't hurt anymore like it had at first. It felt kind of pleasant actually.

-バニング ヘル エンファノ- a voice whispered in Key's ears and Key shook his head violently, trying to clear his thoughts. -バニング ヘル エンファノ- the voice repeated and Key threw his head back with a hoarse howl of agony.

Rev and Miria backed away. Kaizen stepped forward though. "Key." he said in a commanding voice that broke through the invisible barriers and pierced Key easily. "Wake up."

Key blinked in surprise and the voice was gone. That horrible taunting and teasing voice that lilted with musical laughter... He sighed happily and then pounded his fist against his chest armor. "How am I going to get this off?"

Kaizen didn't speak again. Rev and Miria had no idea, though Rev suggested some very... creative things. "Maybe you'll be stuck like that forever... It'd be sort of interesting back in our world." Miria interrupted with a sigh.

"How do we know we're not in our world? We could be underground or in some kind of alternate dimension-" Rev started up again.

"Cut that out!" Miria glared at Rev. "We might as well keep looking for some way out of here because for one thing, I'm cold and for another, this place gives me the creeps."

"I agree with you Miria." Kaizen said softly. "Let's go."

Darkness surrounded a silvery glow. Silence seemed to take over everything, drowning out any possible noise that might have been. Swirls of smothering black and blinding white spiraled around a silent figure that floated within the silver light. The darkness seemed to be waiting for something... A light flashed angrily and lightning split apart the darkness. Burning black eyes opened slowly and an evil smile pierced the utter nothingness that surrounded it.

-Prepare for me little ones... I'm ready... and I'm coming for you now-

Key sighed as Miria pulled harder on his armor. Rev poked his arm and mused to himself. Miria growled in frustration and gave a final tug before falling off and to the ground. "Wahh! It's no use. Those things are on you good!"

"It seems quite impenetrable." Rev muttered and punched the armor. He winced and cradled his hand protectively to his chest. "Damn, that hurts!"

"D-Don't swear," Miria said, getting to her feet and rubbing her backside. "It's not like it'll help any."

Key scratched his fingers against the armor. It did nothing, but his fingers started to burn. "Ow..." he mumbled.

"What?" Miria queried, looking at him curiously.

"My fingers feel like they're burning again."

"Awww jeez!" Rev groaned sitting down and pouting. "I bet we'll be stuck in this stupid place forever, and you'll be a freak-"

"Stop it Rev!" Miria shouted, punching Rev on the head.

"Damn it, don't do that!" Rev swore, jumping up and stalking away from the violent female.

Miria slumped in frustration. "Why won't it come off?"

Key took a tentative step forward and almost fell over. "Gahh!" Miria dove out of the way as Key wobbled over to her. "It's hard to balance with all this weight, but strangely it isn't heavy."

"I wonder what kind of metal it is." Miria said. "It doesn't really look like anything I've seen before..."

Rev turned as an explosion sounded out from behind them. The others turned as well to look at the smoldering wall. Long pale golden hair framed a light face with burning blue eyes. This newcomer had long arms that were covered in black velvet. He smirked and looked at the four. Key felt the urge to step back, but that strange courage kept him where he was. The other three did not move either. The velvet clad figure stepped forward from the smoking ruins and smiled cruelly at them.

"Perhaps you are now my victims?" he asked, more to himself than to them.

"What are you talking about?" Miria shouted. "Go away! We have a very big problem already-Yipe!"

The figure seemed to have appeared right in front of them and was leering down at her. Key wondered how his eyes saw the fast movement of the creature. He had seen the creature running at impossible speeds towards them. He stepped back and knew that the others had too. It wasn't just fear that Key felt. He felt a strong sense of danger and intimidation. That fire burned through him and he felt the need to fight against it. A voice in his mind stopped him.

-Embrace me- it whispered, -Claim my power-

Key closed his eyes and tuned out the screams of his panicked friends. He felt the fire again and let it envelope him and his mind. He gasped softly as he saw without his eyes. He could see lights of blue and purple passing by him and knew that those shapeless sparks were his friends. Friends...? Were they his friends? Yes, of course. They had to be now. They had no one else, and they weren't bad people. Well, Kaizen... He smiled softly as he saw the green light that was the boy slowly backing away.

He blinked and the vision disappeared. He was once again seeing the strange person in front of him. The man grinned, and said something that Key just could not hear. A green light enveloped the room and everything froze for three seconds before explosions bombarded the room. Key was thrown off his feet and he saw that his friends were stumbling as well. Miria screamed and Rev ran to her, barely shielding her from an explosion, but taking the brunt of it himself. Key stared in fascination before looking sluggishly upwards.

"Key!" Miria screamed as she saw him lying in the middle of the room, not moving. "Key!"

"C'mon..." Rev growled, dragging Miria over to Kaizen.

-フィヤ- a voice bellowed in Key's mind and Key sighed peacefully. He slowly stood up. -Do it now...-

Key held his hands in front of his chest and let his fingers press their tips against each other. His middle fingers slipped from their places and rested, bent slightly across each other. From the cocoon his hands created, fire emerged, burning and crackling furiously. "Burning Hell... Inferno!" Key roared, flinging his arms forward and releasing the ball of fire.

The ball of burning flames soared towards the stranger and grew immensely in size. The stranger was caught off guard and tried to block the amazing ferocity of the flames. He was thrown backwards and he skidded across the ground. He slowly stood up with a lopsided smile on his face. His cold eyes caught Key's and they stared at each other for a moment. Key didn't look over to Miria and the others. He knew that they were in the same state of shock that he was.

Rev was the first to speak. "Whoo! Kick his ass!" he yelled to Key.

Key jumped to the side as a bolt of green lightning hit the spot that he had been just a second before. He landed awkwardly and flailed his arms to catch his balance. He still wasn't used to the comforting weight and strange powers he had now. He didn't dodge the next bolt and screamed in pain. He supposed that if he wasn't what he was right then, that he'd be dead. He wrenched himself to the side, gasping for breath. He spared a glance to his friends and saw that Miria was a ghastly white. Rev was holding her, but paying attention to his battle, and Kaizen was standing a little ways away from them with his arms crossed over his chest. His attention was directed at the wall.

Key instinctively ducked and another one of those lethal bolts soared over his head. He ran forward, still crouched, his arms dangling as if unsure where to go. He slid to the side, just as the crackling bang of another bolt whizzed by. He then dodged to the other side, avoiding another bolt of green light. He jumped into the air, pulling his sword from its sheath. He swung to hit the stranger, the engravings on the blade and hilt glowing but was blocked by a bolt of lightning that sent him flying through the air backwards. He landed on his back and his hand limply let go of the sword.

The glow from the engravings on the blade faded away. The ones on the hilt sputtered a few times before erupting in flames. Key felt a strange sensation in his body and slowly got up, grasping his sword. The engravings flared to life again and Key gave a sigh of pleasure as the flames wrapped around him and embraced him gently. The fire burned brightly, reds and oranges dancing gracefully about his legs. The yellow and gold snaked around his arms and the blue and white struck him in the chest, blowing his bangs from his face.

'It feels good, really. I wonder why I don't feel any fear right now. I feel very comfortable in this heat. This really is an interesting experience. I look so different, I am so different, and yet I am exactly the same. I feel power! It's all mine.'

"Burning Hell..." He clasped his hands together, the tips of his fingers touching just barely. His middle fingers slipped down and an orb of fire burst from his palms. As the flames grew in size, he spread his hands farther and farther apart. "... Inferno!" He flung his arms forward and the fire burst forth, heading straight for the blonde man.

The man jumped to the side, but the flames followed him, grabbing at his clothes and devouring the feeling of panic in obsessive fury. The stranger shrieked and ripped at his clothes as the flames covered his body. The smell of burning flesh filled the room and Key gasped in exhaustion. The power that had been with him just a second before seemed to have deserted him and he fell to his knees. As he did, his long hair that was streaked with the colors of fire disappeared, melting back to his normal short red hair. The armor disintegrated and flaked off into nothing, leaving him on his hands and knees as a human.

Rev was the first to his feet and he ran over to Key, with Miria close behind. Even Kaizen came over, though he seemed to not want to. "Are you okay?" Rev asked.

    "Key! What's wrong?" Miria asked.

"I'm okay... nothing's wrong..." Key answered. He slowly got to his feet and stared at his hands. "What happened?"

    "Don't you know?" Miria questioned.

"No – Not really. Everything seems sort of, well... not there."

    "What do you mean?"

"I-I don't know," Key blinked. "It's like I was dreaming."

    "..."

    "... I didn't do what I think I did, did I?"

Rev didn't answer. He just pointed over to the pile of smoldering flesh. Key turned away, feeling sick. After a moment with Rev patting him on the back, he turned back to the ashes and walked slowly towards them. Rev and Miria followed cautiously, but Kaizen stayed back. Key looked down at the mess.

"... I'm sorry," he said brokenly. "I really didn't mean to do that..."

Rev was oblivious, "Well I'm glad you did. I was afraid he'd kill us."

Key sighed and ignored Rev. He knelt down and poked a charred arm. Miria looked away in disgust. Key started to stand up, but felt a strange wind surround him. He gasped as he was lifted into the air once more. Miria stared up at him and Rev blanched.

    "Not again..." Rev muttered.

Key felt a whisper in his mind. It was different from that one voice he had heard a few times before. -And I am now yours...-

He wanted to ask what that meant, but he fell back to the ground and pain overrode any thoughts he had. He winced and rubbed his butt. Rev extended a hand to help him up. "Thanks." Key said, as he was pulled to his feet.

    "No problem."

'I wonder what that voice was. I don't think I'm going to talk about it though. I've been through too much today, and I'm sure my friends won't appreciate it if I start on about weird voices in my head.' Key thought. He looked around the room and his gaze finally rested on the hole that the stranger had created. "I guess we should go through there and see if that's a way out."

"Right, if he came in, he came in from somewhere." Rev said, cheerful once again.

    "Whatever." Kaizen said grumpily.

Key chuckled. "Right, let's go check it out."
    
Dark liquid dripped onto the ground as the creature struggled to get free. A dark armored leg slipped through the thick dark grey mucus. The armor glinted in the faint light, the slimy substance slipping off of it easily. The rest of the creature pulled free, revealing its humanoid form. He stood tall, clothed in full armor. It was completely black, and now that it was free, no light shined off of its smooth surface. It covered the legs tightly, showing pure muscle beneath. The boots were the same utter darkness. Around the waist was a thin silver belt pulled tight by a ruby gem buckle.

Spikes lined the armor on the shoulders, from the neck down to the wrist. The same spikes were on the legs, from the waist to the knee. The chest was covered as well, two rows of smaller spikes going down the middle of the chest and ending at the stomach which was oddly not covered by armor. Instead, black silk material covered the stomach. The fingers were held within tight black gloves with a spike bent backwards at each knuckle. His face was covered by a mask of black. Striking silver lined the eyeholes and painted a strange grimace over the mouth.

Long black hair poured over his back, broken only by the occasional strip of silver. His hair brushed over his belt and went far past it, but on his belt hung a thin sword that was all silver. The blade also did not catch the light, like his armor. It seemed so strange that it just hung there in the darkness, unable to create light for its own. Silence deafened the room he stood in... He flexed his fingers, clenching them into powerful fists and those cruel black eyes glared out from behind the mask. He looked to his side and saw a faint light... and hidden beneath the mask, he smiled.

The four walked towards the wall and climbed through. Rev helped Miria through and then turned to look around him. Key stared up at the blue sky above. Below their feet was a field of rich, green grass. There was a slight breeze that felt delightfully refreshing against their skin. Key stepped forward through the grass, marveling at the beauty of their surroundings. It was certainly much better than the place they were in before. It was obvious that his friends thought the same.

"It's beautiful." Miria breathed. "Simply marvelous!" She clasped her hands together and sang nonsense softly while dancing about.

Rev smirked at Miria. "Yeah, it's nice. Still, it's not home."

"It seems like we're closer at least." Miria insisted. "Before we were in the darkness, and now we have emerged into the lovely light!"

Kaizen spat on the ground in disgust. "This is so stupid."

"What do you mean, stupid?" Rev questioned.

"... Don't talk to me." Kaizen growled.

"I try to be nice..." Rev whined.

"I don't want you to be nice." Kaizen said, walking away.

"... Fine! I'll be annoying then!" Rev shouted after him. Key could hear Kaizen audibly groan.

Miria stared up at the sky and frowned. Key walked over to her. "What's wrong?"

"There are no clouds..." she said softly. Key looked up and saw that she was correct. No clouds hung lazily in the blue sky.

    "That's strange." he commented.

"Yes, it is. It makes me think that all of this could not possibly be real."

"Maybe it isn't." Key said quietly, so she could not hear. "Maybe we're all just lost in our dreams."

"I wonder what my mom is doing right now. Do you think she's worried about me?" Miria asked, turning her big blue eyes to Key.

Key stuttered for a moment. "Um, I'm sure she is."

Rev bounded over and nudged Key in the side. "Got a girlfriend now?"

    Key blushed. "No!"

"What, you don't want me as a girlfriend?" Miria asked teasingly, acting hurt.

    "N-No, I mean-"

Rev laughed and Miria did as well. "I'm just messing with you." Rev said after he stopped laughing. "I do that a lot. Don't take it personally."

    "Oh... okay." Key said uncertainly.

Miria sighed again and then looked back up to the sky. She seemed intent on doing this for a while so Key wandered away a bit. Rev was quite content to torment Kaizen. Key looked down the hill that he had suddenly found himself on. He saw woods down below and wondered if he and the others should risk going down there. They looked pretty dark, but maybe they led somewhere... He was torn between staying where he was in safety or risking the dark unknown. Actually, all of this was unknown. A scream interrupted his thoughts.'Miria!'

Miria stared up at the huge creature. He seemed half ox and half person. The bottom half was the ox, and the top was the human half. His four legs were dark brown and shaggy, showing power as they balanced on sharp hooves. The human part had dark skin and a broad chest. Muscles flexed in powerful arms as two large axes rested in his hands. Shaggy brown hair fell over his eyes and he snorted, stomping his hooves into the grass. Miria stood before him in fear.

"Help!" she screamed again, stumbling backwards and falling onto her rear. "Please, Key!"

A light erupted in front of her eyes and she felt a powerful gust of air land right by her side. She didn't have to look to know that she somehow had rolled out of the path of a very sharp blade. She scrambled to her feet and started to run away. Rev was meeting her halfway. He grabbed her hand and dragged her along. Kaizen was nowhere to be seen and Rev seemed a little annoyed at this. They both screamed as another blow that narrowly missed them sent them flying.

Miria landed on the ground and spat out a few strands of hair and grass. She was about to scramble to her feet but her shirt was caught on something. She couldn't believe it. She pulled angrily at her shirt, wondering what on Earth it could be caught on. As she heard thunderous hoofbeats approaching, she tried to rip her shirt, but it seemed like it didn't want to do that either. She considered taking it off, and wished that she had put something else underneath it that day. She started pulling it over her head but her hair got tangled in it and she cursed vehemently.

"This is so not right!" she shouted finally, thrashing around.

Rev was by her side and he ripped her shirt free. He pulled it down so she could see, even though it tugged painfully on her hair, and dragged her away. "Come on!"

The flat side of the blade whacked Rev aside and he gasped in pain, blood spurting from his mouth as he flew through the air and fell to the ground. Key slid underneath Rev, catching him. Rev was unconscious and pretty badly hurt. Miria wanted to go see if Rev was all right, but the creature was still pursuing her. She gasped as she fell to the ground and struggled to get back up. 'This is seriously not my day!' she thought bitterly, starting to run again.

She felt her legs buckling from exhaustion and she threw herself forward, desperate to get as far away as possible. As she flung herself forward, she saw a rippling light ahead and sailed right through it. As she did, she felt the most incredible sensations all over her body. It felt like water was lapping against her skin, caressing her softly and holding her safe. She twisted her body and landed on her back, bits of dirt and grass flying up around her. She came to a stop and breathed hard, seeing the creature approaching. She cursed silently. 'I thought that something happened. I thought that I was about to get away, but I guess I'm not...'

"Miria!" a voice yelled to her, and she recognized it as Keys'.

Then she saw him, flying through the sky to her rescue. He was once again that strange armor clad human. He put his hands together and shouted "Burning Hell... Inferno!" and threw fire at the beast. The ox man turned to Key and snorted angrily.

Miria started to get up and as she saw her arms, all of her breath left her body. Her arms were covered in a light blue silk that was intricately designed with swirls that represented waves. The swirls were a lilac color and they were absolutely marvelous. The silk traveled up her thin arms and ended at clasps of green at her shoulders. From her shoulders, the silk wrapped around her body in a diagonal direction, and beneath that was a tight strip of gold that covered her chest. Her legs were clothed in a medley of greens and blues that were dyed into a thin but powerful armor. It wasn't the same kind of armor as Keys. It was much more flexible and light. Her boots were thigh high and white. A golden crown was balanced on her head, sparkling with blue and green gems.

"W-What?" she gasped. "What happened to me?"

She got to her feet and noticed that she was taller. Her long blonde hair was streaked with light blue and was in a braid, twisted around her waist like a belt. She felt something on her back and reached for it. She pulled out a long staff of dark blue. The ends were swirled with green and gold. She twirled it in her hands easily, feeling the power that radiated from her weapon. She stared through a lacy mask of aqua that covered her eyes. She saw Key fighting against the creature and ran forward, her movements fluid and graceful.

"Miria?" Key managed to say in disbelief. From this slight distraction, the creature saw an opening and struck him to the ground.

"Key!" Miria called, swinging her staff at the creature. He bellowed and turned to her, swinging his axes in an attempt to behead her but she jumped out of the way easily.

She did a succession of backflips and landed lightly on her toes before dancing aside and hitting the back of the beast's head with her staff. He turned again, but she gracefully dove to the left and then to the right, confusing her opponent. He was strong but slow, and her grace and agility was becoming quite the annoyance to him. She once again dodged aside, laughing musically. He snarled at her and swung wildly. She jumped into the air, twisting her body into a flip and landed on the flat side of one of his axes.

"Stupid!" she cooed, running up the handle of the axe and slamming her staff into the side of his head. He groaned and staggered to the side as she hit him across the head again before leaping away.
    
Key shook his head and sat up. "Whoa, what hit me?" he muttered.

"Hello Key!" Miria called cheerfully, twirling around to come to his side. "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine... are you okay?" Key asked, seeming a bit disoriented.

"I'm perfectly okay." Miria replied with a laugh. "Now do you want to do the honors?"

Key looked at her strangely, then smiled. "If you insist. Burning Hell..." he placed his armored fingers together and let the ball of fire grow to his satisfaction, "... Inferno!" He flung it at the beast, watching as it hit its target.

The beast roared and thrashed about until there was nothing left but a dying flame. Miria waltzed over to the beast and placed her staff over the little flicker of light. It went out and she smirked. "Bye-bye beastie!"

-I am... to be yours.- a voice whispered to Miria in her mind. It was different from the one that had reassured her a few times before, but it still seemed neutral.

"God awful headache..." Rev moaned as he approached the two. He looked up and saw Miria. "... Is that you Miria?"

"It's me!" Miria said happily, dancing over to his side.

He smiled. "I'm... glad you're okay..." He fell forward and his body gave a sigh.

Miria's eyes widened and she knelt down next to him. "Hey! Get up!"

Key walked over to them, feeling quite exhausted. As he did, a wind picked up, blowing his armor away to dust around him. His long hair once again shortened and he felt that sense of loss as the power slipped away. Miria closed her eyes and felt the wind too, pulling her new clothing away. They both stayed where they were for a few seconds, adjusting to the change before tending to Rev.

Kaizen looked at them from where he was hidden, and gave a sigh. "It seems like they're going to be such good friends." he said to himself, "I want to be their friend too."

Key looked over to the spot Kaizen was standing on and saw him. "Hey Kaizen, can you help?"

Kaizen was about to walk away but instead went to Key and the others. He looked down at Rev before kneeling and pushing the others aside. He carefully removed Rev's jacket and lifted the bloody shirt. He saw the gash and the bruises and cringed at the sight.

"Is he going to be okay?" Key finally asked.

"Of course not." Kaizen said coldly, getting to his feet. Miria looked like she was about to cry and Kaizen turned away before speaking, "Maybe we can find someplace that can help him."

"Where are we going to go?" Miria asked, panicky. "There's no place to go! There's no hospital, no civilization..."

"Just shut up!" Kaizen barked, turning and bending to pick up Rev. He nodded to Miria and she grabbed Rev's jacket. He then walked away, leaving Key and Miria to follow.
    
A breath of fresh air. The still silent eyes turned to the left and then to the right. He stepped forward, making no sound. A blue expanse of sea lay in front of him, but he continued to walk over it, the ripples of water dancing away from his boots. He paused to look down and smiled as he saw three children walking towards the woods. The black-haired boy was wounded and the brown-haired boy was carrying him. He smiled to himself and continued his own journey.

Step after step, across the mighty sea. He stopped again, but this time he did not smile. He slowly slipped beneath the water, a frown hidden by his mask. The sun above did not shine on him as he disappeared into the murky depths. Down, down, down he went, his eyes watching everything as it passed. He did not move once from his position until he had reached the bottom. Sand clouded the water as it was disturbed and the silent figure walked through the screen of sandy water.

-It will not be long now-

He walked for a while before stopping and blinking. He looked up through the darkness for a moment. Then, he slowly ascended. When he reached the surface, he breathed slowly, watching the edge of the beach he had come near. He walked along the surface of the water, until his boots kicked up dry sand. He had arrived at a beach, hidden by a thick forest. He once again smiled, though it could not be seen beneath his mask.

"I swear we've been going around in circles." Miria muttered.

"Are you taking over for blabber boy here?" Kaizen snapped.

"I can talk if I want to!" Miria growled.

    "I'll drop him."

    "... You wouldn't dare!"

A wicked smile spread over Kaizen's lips and Miria became silent. Key wasn't paying attention to the two, or he surely would have intervened. He was staring up at the sky that could barely be seen through the tops of the trees. He knew it was still daytime, and they had been walking for hours. He wondered if night ever came. He quickly erased that thought, not wanting to be walking through the thick forest during the night. Chirps and screeches came from every direction, created by the wildlife that lived within the forest. He wasn't sure if he could say they were birds or not. He hadn't seen anything living yet that hadn't tried to attack them. He figured he couldn't let his guard down, even to a bird, if there was one in wherever they were.

That was another thing that plagued his mind. He still had no idea where they were. It was getting more frustrating with each step he took, knowing that he had no idea where he was. Everything seemed real enough, taking into account his knowledge of Earth, but at the same time he could point out flaws that showed that it couldn't possibly be real. At least that was true if they were on Earth. That possibility he had pretty much ruled out of his mind. For instance, there were no clouds. Also, the tree bark was completely smooth on every tree. It still looked textured, but it felt absolutely smooth.

"Do you have any idea where we're going?" Miria finally said, unable to stand the silence.

"Do you think I do?" Kaizen answered, his voice dangerously low.

Miria ignored him and squinted. She blinked in surprise and kept walking with the others before smiling and clapping her hands together. "I knew I saw something different! I think there's an opening up ahead!"

She ran forward, ignoring Key's cries that they should stick together. A squeal of delight came from ahead and Kaizen and Key quickened their pace. They came onto a large rock that overlooked a beach. The beach was beautiful and the waves were calm, but that wasn't why Miria was happy. She didn't have to point to show that down on the beach was a hut. A large red cross on a white sign was perched on the roof and Miria jumped up in down with happiness.

"Look! Look! What luck! There's a hospital, or something like one, down there!"

Kaizen ignored her and was already slipping down the rocks to the beach. Miria pouted from being ignored, but got over it quickly. She followed Kaizen, and Key followed her. They all made it down to the beach, with just a few minor accidents. Kaizen gave a sigh of relief, knowing that his burden would soon be gone. They all hurried towards the hut and Miria flung the door open. Kaizen stepped inside.

Inside, was a desk covered with a white cloth. Comfortable looking chairs lined the walls and a table sat by them covered with interesting looking magazines. Exotic plants were placed strategically around the room making it seem quite welcoming. Kaizen set Rev down in one of the chairs and gave a sigh of relief. He shook his arms, trying to get them to wake up. Miria sat down next to Rev, making sure he didn't fall over. Key went up to the desk and peered over it.

    "Hello! Is anyone here?"

A black and white blur popped up from behind the desk, spooking Key. As he stumbled back, he saw that it was a penguin... which was odd. The penguin had a necklace made of shells around its neck and was wearing a white nurse hat. He flapped his flippers together twice and two human arms slipped out from beneath the flippers. He pulled himself up onto the desk and looked down at Key.

    "How may I help you?"

Key blinked a few times before his voice had returned. "O-Oh, this is a hospital, right?"

"... Something like that." the penguin squawked.

"... Good. We have a friend that's injured. Can you please help him?"

The penguin peered around Key and saw Rev. "Hmm..." it mused, "Hmm, hmm, hmm... I suppose we can do something. What will you give us in return?"

Key blinked before gasping. He had completely forgot about money. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and pulled out a string, a marble, a piece of paper (which he hastily stuffed back in his pocket), a few pieces of stray mechanical pencil lead, two bent paperclips, a stick of gum, a dollar bill and two pennies. He set them down on the desk (but not the paper) and sighed.

"That's all I have..." he said sadly.

The penguin stared at them and then swept them all off the table. "More." it stated simply.

    "B-But I don't have anything else!"

Miria came over, setting a ten-dollar bill on the desk. She then pulled out a pink necklace, a few coins and cherry lip-gloss. "Is that enough?" she asked tentatively. The penguin stared at it a moment before shaking its head furiously. Miria wailed.

"But that's all we have." Key said softly. "We don't have anything else!"

"Well then, your friend won't be helped." the penguin said.

Miria was about to protest loudly when Kaizen unexpectedly stepped forward. He smiled at the penguin, but it wasn't a nice smile. The penguin waddled back a bit. Kaizen reached his hands into his pockets and his fingers clenched something. The penguin winced slightly. Kaizen pulled out a long gold chain. On the end of it was a sparkling crystal. He held it up for the penguin to see and swung it lightly back and forth letting it glint and shimmer in the light. The penguin bounced forward and stared at it as if hypnotized. The penguin's human hands reached out greedily to grab it but Kaizen pulled it away.

    "Is this enough?" Kaizen questioned.

The penguin stared at the necklace and nodded energetically. Kaizen's eyes showed no emotion as he handed the necklace over to the penguin. The penguin grasped it possessively before nodding to the shadows behind him. Three more penguins waddled out into the lobby and laid a stretcher on the ground. They put Rev onto it and carried him into the back. Key started to follow them, but the penguin that clasped the necklace shook its head furiously and an iron gate slammed shut across the hallway, blocking Key from going into the back.

Key, Miria and Kaizen were forced to wait worriedly for Rev to come back. After what seemed like forever, Miria shifted and got to her feet angrily. "I can't just wait! This is driving me absolutely nuts!"

Kaizen looked up at her tiredly and then stood up as well. Miria looked at him curiously, but Kaizen turned away and walked outside. Miria frowned at him and then turned to Key. Key looked up at her and then at the door in which Kaizen had exited through.

    "Where's he going?" Miria demanded.

"I have no idea." Key said, standing. Miria latched onto his arm, preventing him from following the other boy.
    
A squeak from the large gate alerted the two humans and they looked over to the gate. Rev was being escorted through, and he looked utterly bewildered. "How did I get here?" he asked Key and Miria.

Miria flew through the air and landed onto Rev, squeezing him tightly. "Oh, thank goodness you're okay!"

    "Wh-What?" Rev asked, slightly breathless.

"You're in a hospital." Key explained.

Rev raised an eyebrow. "With penguins?" he asked. Key nodded, resisting the strange urge to giggle crazily. "Where's Kaizen?" Rev asked. The urge to laugh disappeared and Key turned to the door. Rev followed his gaze and saw the silent boy standing out on the beach, staring out at the waves. "Oh."

Miria let go of Rev and gave a sigh of happiness. "Thank goodness Kaizen gave them that necklace. You might still be all bloody and dying!"

    "He what?" Rev asked.

Key wished that Miria would shut up so they wouldn't have to explain so much, but he figured that they should get this over with. "We had to pay them with something, but we had nothing. Kaizen gave them a necklace."

"A necklace...?" Rev asked himself. He seemed to be thinking about something, but Miria dragged him and Key to the door.

    "Let's go!" she crowed happily.

Rev let a smile replace his thoughtful expression, and it seemed so much more natural. "Okay!" he answered.
    
They all left the hospital to join Kaizen on the beach. The penguins huddled around the necklace, staring at the bright crystal that glistened brilliantly in the dim lights. The long chain of gold sparkled and shined and they giggled insanely as they fingered it with human fingers. Kaizen didn't look over as the others approached them. He could hear Miria telling Rev all about her transformation, and Rev was obviously jealous.

"I wonder if we'll all get to change like that." Rev said, slightly wistful. "What does it feel like?"

"It's really wonderful. First of all it sort of hurts, but then it's the most amazing power rush ever!" Miria was answering.

Key smiled at her and then looked to Kaizen. Kaizen met his gaze and challenged it silently. Key's smile disappeared and Kaizen felt a sense of triumph. He wouldn't admit it, but he was slightly jealous of the two as well. He wanted to feel that kind of power as well. He relaxed his position as Rev and Miria caught up. Miria was smiling at them all, and it was slightly annoying Kaizen.

"What shall we do next?" Miria asked.

"I don't think we have a choice. We'll have to go back through the forest and hope we can come out on the other side." Key said.

    "What forest?" Rev asked innocently.

"That one-" Miria started. She stopped when her jaw dropped. Everyone looked, and to their surprise, the forest was gone! Instead, they were completely surrounded by water.

"What's going on?" Key shouted as a roar filled his ears.

"I have no idea!" Miria shouted back as they were sprayed by water.

The waves seemed to be getting more and more violent and Key was starting to feel a little seasick. A particularly large wave crashed against the island they stood on and Miria shrieked. They all looked towards the next wave and felt the need to back away. Kaizen turned back to the hospital hut, but it was gone. He blinked in surprise.

"We have to get out of here!" Miria shouted as the wave slammed against their island. The ground shook slightly from impact and Miria felt very afraid.

"You can't seriously suggest we swim!" Rev yelled.

"It doesn't look like we're going to have a choice!" Miria yelled back.

That was when the waves calmed, and everyone stood in confusion, looking about the calm water around them. "Well, that's better." Rev said softly. "But we're still stranded."

Black eyes stared calmly and the smile once again was there, though not visible. Stepping forward over the sand alerted the four of an intruder. They all turned to see who it was. Black armor that did not shine stood in plain view. A gloved hand reached down and drew the thin sword from his waist. He lifted it above his head and his eyes laughed silently. He brought it down against the ground and a blinding light split through the sand. He watched as the four screamed and scrambled across the ground as the ground split into two small islands.

    -Like slaughtering defenseless animals-

He stared at the humans as they glared at him angrily, noticing two in particular that interested him. Raising his sword again, the blade glowed with a strange black aura. He brought it down through the air, the unusual silence deafening the area as the ground split again...
