The Doorway

  1. It's pretty crappy because it's rushed, but I'll go into more detail in the next chapter. This may not be entirely accurate, because I'm not sure about some things, but that doesn't matter yet anyway.

It has barely any detail. ;-; But I didn't want too make it long and ugh.

The title won't have any relevance for a while aha.

    Prologue

    Breathe.

    One.

    Two.

    Three-

"Jake, they're coming," a voice announced, interrupting his process. Wide eyes looked up at him; a glassy green in the moonlight.

"Wait, what... Shut up then," he hissed back in a lowered tone, his own green orbs growing in alarm. He didn't mean to snap, but his sister had a habit of being loud at the worst times.

The girl, Beth, responded with a glare, but obediently closed her mouth. She ducked behind one of the storage boxes.

Jake swallowed, trying to calm his nerves. They couldn't catch him again. He only got let off last time because the copper knew of his father.

He raked a hand through his blonde hair, letting it fall messily across his forehead. A bead of sweat trickled down his cheek as he pressed his back up against the wall, hoping the shadows and shelves would conceal him.

He shouldn't have come... Not tonight, anyway. And there was no way he should've brought Beth, he thought angrily to himself. It had seemed easy though. I mean, it was a new shop. They weren't meant to have set up security even yet.

He shook his head bitterly, trying to calm his thoughts and think the situation through.

The lights in the shop had been left off to avoid some suspicion, but he hadn't closed the back door properly. He'd seen the owner leave, and anyway, that wasn't that suspicious. Jake chewed down on his lower lip. Someone must have seen their torches flash through the windows.

Windows... Yes! A slight smile quirked onto his lips. The windows were the type which only partially opened, but all the same, it was something.

At the sound of footsteps, Jake turned to his sister, exclaiming urgently in a whisper. "Get out of the window, you'll fit just about. Go home, check on Mum. You'll be okay. I mean, you're too young for a proper job but you could get a paper round-" The boy rambled for a few moments, but his sister just crossed her arms. Finally he stopped, casting her a confused glance. "Er...?"

"I'm not going, okay," Beth stubbornly replied, her eyes flitting to the door as she heard the sound of noises getting louder.

"Look, if they find you, you know what'll happen. You'll have to go to a care home, and I don't even know what would happen to Mum. Please, go. I'll find a way to get in touch."

Beth shook her head, but she knew she had to go, even if it was just to care for their parent. She gave him a fleeting glance before hurriedly walking from her hiding place and slipping out of the open window.

A few seconds later, the door clicked open.

The headlights upon their heads illuminated the room, showing the ransacked boxes, and Jake's overflowing backpack. One policeman, who Jake hadn't seen before, grinned. "Guess it was worth getting up for after all."

A shallow light flooded the room; the handcuffs glinting in the glow.

  4. Thanks aha! :3

    I know it's says their P.O.V, but it's still in 3rd person. :3

This is kinda just too show you what's happened to them/where they are now. Next time I'll probably just make a longer part about one of them, and alternate each time. :3 xD

    Two months after the incident.

    Jake's P.O.V [Prison]

"Oi, get over 'ere, dick 'ed."

With a roll of his green eyes, Jake sauntered over. A smirk slipped across his lips as the man who spoke earlier grinned at him. The two regarded each other with slight caution, however it was clear that they were friends.

"Guess what I got?" The man said, his blue eyes glinting with excitement. He ran a hand over his scalp, which was shaven, giving him a slightly more mature look, and fidgeted around in his makeshift pocket. It had to be orange to blend in with the 'uniform'.

"What?" Jake questioned, raising his eyebrows. He looked at Nathan with slight curiosity, although he wasn't entirely bothered. Last time he had gotten worked up, yet it turned out to be a piece of wood that Nathan had thought looked like a cat...

Nathan ushered him closer and reluctantly Jake complied. Although Nathan could be a bit of an ass, he was also relatively large and was a pretty awesome body guard. When Jake had first arrived there'd been trouble between him and a few other prisoners, but Nathan had defended him and quickly become his new friend.

"Look," the slightly older man said with a grin.

"Er, what?" Jake asked, growing impatient. The break was almost over and he still wanted to finish his letter.

Nathan fiddled round with the cuff of his sleeve for a few minutes; he was stuffing the packet of well, things, back up his sleeve.

"Nathan, dude... What the hell are you doing? I didn't see it even?"

"Shut up," he whispered back. "Officer. I have to go. I'll leave it outside your cell, y'know, behind the bin."

Jake shrugged, about to reply before noticing the officer walk over. He flashed his friend a small smile before walking away. The yard area was pretty wrecked; the grass over grown and the flowers dead.

Jake liked it though. Jake liked everything except the prison, with it's high grey walls, spiked fences, and overall dullness. He shuddered.

He thought about home briefly before shaking his head. There was no point worrying and getting worked up over it. It wouldn't help. He had originally. In his first week here, all he did was pace around: the separation was unusual.

Instead, he sat down amongst the grass, smoothed his stained overalls and produced a piece of crumpled paper from his pocket. With a blunt pencil on his left hand, the boy began to write.

    Beth's P.O.V [Home]

"I hope you've all finished your assignments!"

Beth groaned quietly at the high pitch voice, brushing her black hair out of her eyes. She'd dyed it, much to her friend's dismay, but she liked the new look.

She fixated her gaze upon the doodled on desk, hoping to avoid the teachers eye. She hadn't had time to do it; the past few nights she'd been babysitting till all hours. She'd dressed up in high heels and make up, telling them she was 16. Beth turned 14 a week ago, but it was easier to find work if she acted older. Anyway, the pay was decent. She wasn't complaining.

Beth stifled a yawn as the teacher walked around the desk in front, collecting papers of everyones' desks.

Eventually, the teachers gaze landed on Beth, whose desk was empty. "Again, really?" The teacher, who was ageing a bit and rather large, shook her head. "Detention, after school. I'm sorry, but... This is the 3rd time Beth. I don't know what's gotten into you lately."

Beth nodded, knowing there was no point arguing. The teacher, Mrs Baye, squeezed through the desks to get to the next person.

Sighing, she rested her head on the desk before zoning out entirely as the minutes passed by.
