I get in the big metal tube,my eyes are fixated on my metal belt, when the time comes, I can use it as some sort of weapon that could mean life or death, I hear an announcer over the loud speaker and I look up, revealing the misty grey sky above, the tube slowly rises up and after about 15 seconds of darkness, I'm lifted up into a maze of mist, abandoned buildings, trees, lakes, and fields. The Capitol was serious when they said that it would be a very interesting Hunger Games. 'Remember' Garnet mouths to me as I look to my left, I nod back at him and check around for the cornucopia, it's right in the middle of a dark blue lake, about 20m or so away, I'm good at swimming; I can easily be one of the first. I look back at Garnet, his mouth holds a arrogant smile and I instantly know what he's thinking; The knives. 20. I quickly decide what to do, if I get into the cornucopia and grab a weapon I can easily get out and to the safest part of the arena. 15. The trees, yes and I know that's where Garnet will be and I'm guaranteed to be safe in the presence of Garnet. 10. So it's settled, Garnet it is. 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1. I instantly sprint in the direction of the cornucopia and dive head first into the swampy lake, I can see Garnet, not too far behind me. I grab a backpack and full it up with as many supplies as I can get my hands on. Knives, adjustable spears, stones, matches, bandages, spikes, ropes and water bottles. I fling the backpack over my shoulder and arm myself with a beautifully designed knife, the edge; sharp and slick. It's silver edges glimmer as I run back and dive into the water, lots of the tributes can't swim so it's an easy kill. The guy about my age from district 7, Harold, Stands in shock as he spots me coming towards him; "Don't worry, I'll make it quick."I smile at him, he starts to run but I find myself grabbing his backpack and pulling him in my direction. "Come with me, 7." I order him to follow. "Or should I say, 11."I refer to his training score. I drag him into the Forrest and push him up against a tree, holding a knife to his neck. "What did you do 7?"I yell. "ANSWER ME, WHAT DID YOU DO!?"I press his neck harder against the tree until he weeps. "I-I...can't breathe."He says, out of breath. I hear footsteps coming towards us and I drag us into a nearby bush, armed and ready. "Amber?"I hear Garnet say. "Garnet!"I jump out of the bush, standing in front of me is Garnet and both the district 2 tributes. "What are you doing with 7?" Erika, the district two girl flicks her light brown hair over her shoulder. I pull him out the bush and he falls in the middle of the circle. "I'll kill him."Erika pulls out a metal wire from her backpack. "Nice...and...slowly..."She smiles evilly. "No."I say frowning at her delight. "He could be of help." The district 2 boy, Lyle; lifts him up one handed and pins him up against a tree. "This wimp? I can provide whatever you need."He winks at me. "Give me his weapons then."I say holding out my hand. "I can hold on to them."He pulls weapons out of 7's backpack. "GIVE ME HIS WEAPONS. NOW."I snarl. "Fine."He hands me the weapons, and I stick them in my backpack, a blunt grey knife, some water, a meter of wire and a small blade. "Put that down."I growl at Erika who is now eyeing her wire and 7. She rolls her eyes but does as I say almost instantly. "We're not going to kill 7."I announce. "But we're going to tie his hands back."Erika runs her fingers across the smooth cold wire. "Fine."I say finally.
I bet the Capitol's cameras are hooked on us, or were anyway, they always are with us careers, they watch our every move, examine how we work and they wait, wait and watch for what lies ahead; hoping for something inside us to tick, prodding us on like wild animals, cold blooded wild animals. They're watching and waiting for us to snap, for us to turn on each other, waiting for us to break...I don't blame them, we will kill, we will prey on the weak, we will examine their skills and we will take their lives. After all, we're just the cliché career tributes; everyone knows it. "Let's head down by the lake, there's bound to be some imbecile for us to take down there."Erika laughs, revealing her perfectly aligned teeth. "Can't we just set up camp here? If you really want someone to kill we have a perfectly good candidate right here."Lyle pushes Harold to the ground. "Uggh."Harold groans, as he hits the ground. "Man up."Lyle kicks him in the stomach. "Back off."Garnet sits Harold upright, and glares in Lyle's direction. "Yeah Lyle, back off."Erika giggles whilst moving closer to Garnet. For some reason this gets to me, not the fact that I'm stuck in an arena with probably two of the most annoying people in the whole of Panem, but the fact that one of them has blatantly taken a liking to Garnet. I know that he'd never like her, he's too smart for that; but it still bugs me, it's not like I like him or anything, well at least I don't think so, and even if I did I'd have a perfectly good reason to, after all he's done for me. He volunteered to protect me, or so he said; he swore to me that he'd always be watching over me and every time I look into his mesmerizing deep blue eyes I feel secure, like no-one can ever harm me. "Amber?"I hear a voice and instantly snap out of my daydream, I was unknowingly glaring coldly at Erika who has now caught on, smirking arrogantly to herself. It's almost like she read my mind, her bright green eyes are taunting me, watching me, knowingly. "So, Garnet..."She moves even closer to him, somehow knowing that it will agitate me thoroughly. "We should go get some wood for a fire, the temperature will drop in a few hours."She looks up at him innocently, fluttering her long, thick eyelashes. "Good idea, will you two be alright?"He looks directly at me, nodding slightly. "She's a big girl, she can handle herself."Lyle glares at Garnet, smirking. "And plus, she has me to protect her."He grins. "Yeah, I'll have no problem using you as a human shield."I look at him, annoyed. Why is he doing this? Treating me like a fragile, incapable little girl? Just when I thought he was actually a half decent being, he ruined it. Garnet smirks at my remark; "I'm taking your word on that one."He smiles at me, before walking away with Erika, leaving me with a socially unstable district 2 tribute. I hear more groans from 7, and I walk over to him. "What is it?"I ask him slightly concerned, if we don't have 7, we don't have seven's advantages; I think to myself. "My wrists..."He manages to squeak. "Stop complaining and shut it."Lyle hisses at him aggressively. When I said he was socially unstable, I didn't think it was to this extent. I look at him coldly before examining seven's wrists. They're cut from the wire Erika used to tie his hands back. I know I shouldn't be helping him but there's just something about him of which I trust, something that comforts me; I drag my navy blue backpack to my knees and reveal the small bandages. I take his whimpering hands and steady them in my own before wrapping one bandage over the cuts. "Thank you."Harold smiles at me warmly, there's just something genuine about him that's impossible to ignore. I smile at him discreetly before I attend to joining Lyle again for lookout.
Wait, is this the hunger games where the guy won with a long thing and a trap?(I know what it's called but I don't want to give it away)
No, it's not when the guy won with a long thing and a trap, I made this one up. (Sorry for confusing you.)
And that's when I realized where I was. I'm awakened by the rustling of a nearby bush. "Come one step closer and die."I take hold of the nearest weapon. More rustling. "I swear to god."I move closer to the sound, now by instinct, protecting Garnet, who's sleeping soundly, un-alert of the dangers of which the arena holds, even if it's only for a little while. "It's just me."7 smirks, startling me. "You're absurd!"I hiss at him. "You could have gotten yourself killed!" I frown at him, my weapon firmly in my hand. "I can handle myself."I'm taken aback by his newfound confidence. "I'm leaving, you coming?"He studies my face and I take a small step back. "I-I...can't leave Garnet."I say defensively. My focus relocates to Harold, his sandy blonde hair flicks perfectly into shape, revealing his hypnotizing deep green eyes not unlike mine, he intimidates me; but at the same time he finds a way to be comforting. "Garnet?"He raises a single perfect eyebrow. "Yes, Garnet."I say blankly. I could never leave Garnet; I swore to myself I'd do everything in my power to protect him; I swore I'd never leave him and that I'd die in his place, but when the time came, would I really? "I won't leave him."I say with more confidence... Harold looks me in the eyes, "How could you possibly stay with him?"He whispers; and he's right, how could I? At any moment I could loose him, and I'd be torn, I'd never forgive myself, I'd be taken hostage within my memories and I'd just break, but I can't let that happen-I won't. "I can't loose him..."I whisper, I can feel my tears rolling delicately down my face, and I let my gaze meet his. "You're stronger than you think."He takes hold of my stumbling hands in his own, and lifts me to my feet. The littlest things he does can comfort me, make me feel safe...I let myself smile at him. "Stay."I smile, "Please stay." "What's going on!?"I hear a hiss from behind me and I quickly jump back. "Erika!?"I ask instantly. "You and this guy?"She laughs hysterically. "Going for the guy with the highest training score...smart...Y'know what....I underestimated you...Amber..."Erika smirks to herself. I feel my face burn with hatred, I despise her with a passion! Her eyes flicker in the moonlight, and her perfect red lips outline a smile as she plays with the arrow in her hand. "Why are YOU awake?"I hiss. "Can't sleep."She looks at the ground, kicking away some leaves. "Well try."I snap at her, before sitting back down beside Garnet.
I sit up with a shortened scream; the nightmares have started. Images of the dead tributes flash through my mind as reality sinks in. I could die. "Amber?"Garnet wraps his arms around me steadying my cold shaky body. "What is it?!"He looks startled. Oh, just the fact that in the past few days I've witnessed nine deaths, and soon it could be me...or worse, you; I think to myself. "N-nothing...I-I'm fine..."I smile at him reassuringly. I look to my left, to my surprise 7's still there, sleeping soundly next to me, his hands gripped onto his spear for dear life. "Wake up! We have a big day today."Garnet taps Erika gently on her forehead, and she sits up instantly, ready to strike. "Woah, it's JUST Garnet."Lyle laughs. "Shut up. I'm NOT in the mood for you today Lyle."She spits. If looks could kill; I think to myself. "Bingo."Erika smiles as we walk up to the lake, in front of us stands a terrified tribute from district 3. "You're making this way too easy 3."Erika pushes the girl to the ground and tackles her into a headlock. "What's your name, huh?"Erika laughs. "I'm c-Cody.."The district 3 girl stumbles on her words. "Well, c-Cody..."Erika mocks. "Anything you want to say before I rip your throat out?" "Tucker!!!"Cody screams in agony. "Oh, your little boyfriend can't help you now."Erika A piercing scream filled my ears, I looked back to find Cody, on the ground, a knife wound was located in her right shoulder, she's pinned to the ground, screaming as the blood pours out of the wound, she's struggling, but I can see in her eyes that she's lost all hope, which in Erika's eyes; is close to satisfaction. "Right, so I'm going to make this as simple as possible."Erika starts. "Where's your little friend?" Silence... "I SAID where's your little friend?!"Erika repeats, now clearly agitated. More silence... "Knife..."Erika orders Lyle, who seconds later places a sharp sliver knife onto the palm of her hand. "I really don't want to do this..."Erika brings the knife closer to Cody's face. "It would be such a waste of your knowledge wouldn't it?"She teases; digging the knife deep into Cody's cheek. More agonizing screams come from the mouth of the district 3 tribute; her dirty blonde hair fell like a blanket of silk across her chest and her big, hopeless, brown eyes filled with fear; she can't hold on much longer, she'll break... Erika calves something into Cody's cheek, it's a heart, a tiny, bloodstained heart. "I'm sorry your life had to go to waste..."Erika smirked to herself, before slicing through Cody's clothes, piercing her heart. Boom. The canon fires marking another tributes death, Cody's death.
