The 11 People Who Changed History This thread includes the stories of: Emmitt Til, Rosa Parks and The Little Rock 9. The Story of Emmitt Til On 25th July, 1941, Emmitt Til was born. He was a black African who lived in America. The black slave trade had just ended and there was major segregation between black people and white people in America. On 25th August, 1954, Emmett and his cousin went to visit their Great Uncle Mose in the Southern States of America. Emmett's mother, Mammie, told him how to behave around Southern white people, he thought his mother was exaggerating. When he arrived, he was dared by a boy to go into a store and wolf whistle at the white cashier. Emmett thought it as a harmless game. Three days passed and nothing had happened. But, on the fourth day, there was a loud knock on Mose's door at 2:30am. It was the woman's husband, and his half-brother. Both holding pistols. They said 'Do you have two boys from Chicago?' Mose nodded. They said 'We want the one who wistled at my wife!' The half-brother pointed his pistol to Mose's head. Mose showed them to where Emmett was sleeping. The took him to a barn, where they beat him up, chopped his nose with a butcher's knife, stole his clothes, threw him in a river with weights tied to him and burnt his clothes and shoes. Emmett was found dead in the river two days later. The Story of Rosa Parks Rosa Parks heard about Emmett Til's tragic story. Four months later, she refused to give up her seat on a bus for a white man. She was arrested. The Story of The Little Rock 9 In the Southern States of America, segregation was everywhere. But, nine students changed that, with the help of their friend, Daisy. The school Little Rock High, had announced that they were not going to let segregation happen in their school. So, Daisy stepped forward and said she had nine students willing to enroll to Little Rock High. On the morning of 4th September, the military were heading towards Little Rock. Daisy heard of this and called all of the students, except one. This girl had got off the bus in the black and white dress that she had made for her first day of school. She walked up to Little Rock, and all of the soldiers pointed guns at her head. But she kept her head held high and continued to walk to the front doors. She couldn't find a way in, as it was blocked by soldiers. So, she turned around and walked back, trying hard to hold in her tears. The other eight students arrived one hour later, but couldn't get through. The next day, Daisy found a cross burning in her garden with a message on it. The message read The nine students stayed in Daisy's house while they awaited the military to take them to the school. They were taken to the school but, four black reporters were seen going through the school grounds. The students thought that they were the black nine's parents, so they threw bricks at them. The nine walked into the school and were greeted by many white students. These 11 people changed history for us. To think we went from that, to our first black president, Barack Obama. Martin Luther King: Hope Barack Obama: Progress. Thank you!
I'm a democrat, for those who are wondering. I don't agree with ALL of president obama's decisions, but I agree with the majority.
What I'm saying is, in the 1950s, a black president would have been seriously frowned upon, and he would have been killed by the KKK in a matter of days!

Really? The KKK were (no offense) racist jerks who believed only white people should have rights. I am white myself but I would still never believe in segregation because of the color of one's skin. (No offense to your family but...) I hate the Ku Klux Klan
Why is there only people who changed the way we see racism here Hitler did more for the world than any of the people mentioned so far
And why does everybody get all pissy about slavery of black people its not like there the only ones that's been enslaved its actually really pathetic the way people moan about it
