My son was born 30 years ago. As he was growing up, I couldn't really be there for him. I had bills to pay, food to put on the table. Before I knew it he learned to walk and talk without me. He would say "I'm gonna be like you dad." Or "When you comin' home dad?" My only answer for him was "I don't know, but we'll get together then, okay buddy?" On his 10th birthday I got him a ball. He was so excited he wanted to play with it right away. He asked me when I'm coming home so I could teach him how to throw, but I had a lot to do at the office so I said maybe next time. As he was about to hang up I heard him say "I'm gonna be like him." 8 years later, he's going to college. I'm so proud of him, he's so much like a man. I asked him to sit with me for awhile, get to know him and his love life maybe. Instead he asked to borrow the car and I'm sitting there like "When are you coming home son?" And all he could say was "I don't know when but we'll get together then dad." I've retired for awhile now and my son has moved away with his family. I called to check up on him and to see if we could have a father and son get together. He said, "I'd love to, dad. When I have time for sure! Got lots to do and place to go." As I hung up I realized that he's grown up just like me. My boy was just like me. tl;dr: And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home dad? I don't know when, but we'll get together then, You know we'll have a good time then.
