They arrived late at night, six of them in total, all dressed in black. I was woken by the soft purr of an engine and the crunch of tires rolling over the gravel in our driveway. I sat up in bed and silently untangled myself from my thin satin sheets, careful not to wake my sister. I was making my way across the oversized room I shared with her, silent except for the small sound of my feet padding on the wood floors, when the bell rang. It was a light, pure sound, an eerie contrast to the immense weight of the situation. I heard the short click of the door being opened and the soft creak of the hinges as it swung in. Gods, I needed to fix that. Low murmurs swirled up the stairs to meet my ears, and I quietly opened my own for just enough to pop my head through. "I'm glad we could meet up so soon." A woman's voice croaked. "Yes, if course," my mother's kind voice crooned,"this takes to priority over anything. Please, come in and sit." My interest had gotten the better of me, and I sneaked out of the room and to the railing of the stairs to my right. They say on various couches and chairs in my nook, and I strained to hear and see them better. My mother was speaking in a hushed tone,"... let's just start with telling what happened. Just to get all the facts before-" she stopped short and turned her head slightly in my direction. "I think it would be wise to invite my daughter down if you don't mind. After all, she is my heir, and is eavesdropping anyway." At this, I shrunk back from the stairs. "Of course." The old woman's voice said. "Dahlia..." My mother called, a shocking volume to the silent house. I tiptoed down the stairs, all the time being watched by the woman. Even as I sat, her eyes were on me, and it made me squirm in my seat. "Dahlia, this is Armina. Armina, my daughter Dahlia." Armina extended her hand, but my naturally hot blood had run cold. My hand shook as I reached out and shook hers. "Armina as is...the vampire queen Armina?"I asked shakily. She was wearing a sheer black veil, but even through that, I saw her lips crack open in a smile. "That's me. But please, don't be afraid my dear. Your mother and I are very old friends."
I'm glad you like it but it might be a while until my next update, because I'm kind of busy and I have writers block. But I'll be sure to make it a good one when I do
I yanked my hand back. Friends?! Friends with the beasts who murdered scores of my kind? I turned to my mother, "Friends? You're friends with them?" I spat, "These...creatures?" "Dahlia!" My mother exclaimed, "Show some respect!" I stood and stormed across the room. "What? To the things that killed my brothers?! All due respect, your highness, but please keep your kind in line!" The old queen looked completely unphased, and even smiled as she hissed, "Remember your place, Fürstin. And also remember that my kind is not the only one with blood on their hands." I snorted in disgust, but before I could say another word, a small voice at the top of the stairs whimpered, "Momma? Dahlia? What's wrong?" My little sister, Charlotte, had been woken by the screams. My mother glared at me, and I ran up the stairs to tend to her. Her auburn hair stuck out in every angle, and I only thought about what a pain it would be to brush out in the morning. Her cerulean eyes were half closed, and she was holding her favorite teddy bear, Piotr. I took her hand and walked towards our room, but she wouldn't move. She held out her arms, and I smiled. "Alright, little loup." I whispered as I picked her up. The walk back to our room was quiet, and Charlotte yawned occasionally, but by the time I opened our door, she was fast asleep. I knew she would probably want to sleep with me, so I lay her down in my bed next to me. I did not fall back to sleep, but instead stared at the dark ceiling until dawn came through my window. ----------------------------------------------------- Okay so it was a little sooner than I thought, but school starts back up tomorrow for me, so I'll probably be swamped. But I'll try my hardest to work on this, I promise! And if you like this, I also have another story out here called Elementals. Oh and by the way, Fürstin means princess in German. If you ever don't understand a word, and I don't tell you down here, it's most likely all German google translate does wonders XD
I also know german so i can help translating actually it was the german title that caught my attention. Intrigueing story. Love it. So far so good
I was up before the others, and I completed my usual routine: tidying up the sitting room and nook, making a pot of coffee for my mother, and making chocolate chip pancakes for my sister. Making them make me think about my dad; how he used to wake me and my brothers up early so we could pour them into funny shapes. I, being only four at the time, would squeal in delight as he made a D or a heart for me. Even as I got older I loved it. We would still wake up before first light and make our pancakes. All the way up until my thirteenth birthday, two months after Charlotte was born, when... No. I must not think of that now. I was future queen, I could not let such things haunt me like this. I went to go wake Charlotte after I had finished; brushing through her wild hair and carrying her down the stairs to the dining room. I was shocked to find someone already down there, helping themself to the pancakes. I acted as if nothing unusual was happening and set Charlotte down in her chair. He jumped when he saw me, and quickly stood up. "I-I'm sorry! I heard you down here, and I just assumed..." His voice was thick with an Irish accent. I forced my lips to curl in a smile. After all, they were our guests. "No, no, of course. Help yourself." He smiled a crooked smile that was actually pretty goofy, and proceeded to stuff his face with even more pancakes. I helped Charlotte slowly eat them bite by bite, which was okay because she usually only ate one or two, before I ate. By then, more people had come down for breakfast, including Armina and my mother, who cast me a warning glare as I began to scold a bloodsucker for dripping syrup on the table. ----------------------------- Ooh, who did Dahlia just meet? An Irish boy? Nice nice
I'm finally updating! But it's a nice long one for you! The vampires were actually very nice, despite the scene last night, and I came to find out more about them. There was Armina, of course, the eldest, whose long hair was turning white with age, her eyes were a milky blue. Her skin was pale and extremely thin, though only slightly wrinkled. She was thin, and had long bony fingers to match. Jael, her second in command, was much taller, and probably the reason vampires were automatically assumed beautiful. He had light curly ginger hair and bright blue eyes, paired with full lips and pale skin. He had a rather charming smile and a deep baritone voice. His sister, Tamara, had darker red hair and deep sapphire eyes. Her face was round and framed by her curly locks. Like her brother, she was beautiful, which was probably why she was the only one married. Her husband Wyatt had pale blonde hair and bright green eyes. He and Tamara were nice, but were obviously uncomfortable around my kind. The younger ones, Hale and Alec, were brothers. They both had dark brown, nearly black eyes and dark brown hair, though they styled it differently. Hale left his short and spiky, whereas Alec let his grow longer and curly. Alec was also taller and tanner than Hale, who was always cleanly shaven; Alec liked to have a bit of stubble. It was Alec, in fact, that I had met earlier. He was a joker definitely, but so was his brother. Oh, and did I mention they were Armina's sons? Which makes them princes. I couldn't see either one of them leading a
whole race anytime at all in the future. They seemed too young, too naive to be on the "throne" of one of the top races of Dunklen. It turned out that the vampires' business here began with a story not so different from my own: an entire coven was almost wiped out by werewolves. My whole family was almost murdered, leaving only Charlotte, my mother and I behind. We both had heard of other attacks, and we needed to find out who was doing this and stop them before it happened again. The "children", which consisted of Charlotte, Hale, Alec and myself, were sent out of the room when the serious talking started. Charlotte immediately lived Hale; even as we were making our way to the living room, she was hanging all over him. Those two were plenty busy with each other, so Alec and I got some time to get to know each other. Sorry about that^^^ I got cut off
I love your story! And to help you guys kind of picture the vamps, I imagined Jael as Benedict Cumberbatch, Tamara as Gemma Arterton, Alec as Aidan Turner (aka walking sexiness) and Hale as Andrew Scott, who is also adorable. But so is Benedict lol. I didn't really see the others as anyone in particular, so use your imaginations, my loves
