I am terrible person. >.> "Ew," "What's with her?" " Freak. " The girl cast her eyes downward as she passed their stares. She fiddled with the strap of her bag, hurrying across the hallway was fast as she could. But the words kept coming. "She doesn't belong here." "Weirdo." "She doesn't even have friends." Pacing faster, she finally made it to her locker. Spinning the dial as fast as she could, the metal door swung open and she occupied books into the hallow space. "Hey," She looked up, trembling. Who would it be this time? A student? A teacher? Who was there to tease her? "I'm Darren Reynolds." the boy said, smiling at her. Her eyes popped open. She looked behind her; there was nobody. "Yeah, I'm talking to you." he smiled again, and she squealed inwardly with joy. He was actually talking to her! Her hands flew as she typed out, "H-I." he stared at her puzzled for a few moments, and she sighed, and gave a wave instead. Darren nodded, comprehending at last. "So I was wondering if you wanted to go to a party with me this Friday." he said smoothly. Her jaw dropped. Was this really happening? Was she being asked out? She nodded furiously, even jumping up and down a little. "Great," he said, "It's a karaoke party," he grinned, and turned to leave. Wait!, she thought, grabbing his shoulder and spinning around. A karaoke party? she spelled out. He could not understand. She then mimicked singing, then gave him a big X. His eyes morphed, and he understood, "Oh! You can't sing....because of the mute thing," his sincere gaze turned into a smirk, "Well. Guess I'll find another date." Again, she grabbed his shoulder. Stealing a pen and paper from her open locker, she spelled out a curvy Maybe next time? And showed it to him. After reading the text, he gave a boisterous laugh. "Sorry. No," he said in between chuckles, "It was a dare, mute girl. I wouldn't REALLY ask you out." he continued laughing as he made his back to his friends, who only laughed with him, patting his back and such. Tears brimmed in her eyes, and she stood tree humiliated with her piece of paper. Why did everyone treat her this way? She was no different from the rest of them. Sure, she couldn't speak, but she was still human! Stuffing the paper back into her locker, she slammed it shut and stormed out the plastic doors of the school. As she ran, cars zoomed past her, and paid no attention. Adults sighed a her, thinking she was one of those teenagers whose only problem was deciding what to wear. She wasn't any of those. She worried if she could make it to school. She worried that because of her disability, the essence of communication would be fragile. And it always was. She finally got exhausted from running she paused and caught her breath. She was worthless. She was a loser. She was a freak. Tears matted the cement sidewalk, and she let it. Then suddenly, from the corner of her eye, she saw a flash of blue. She spun around on instinct, and saw a boy crossing the street. But what was more horrifying was the fact that there was a car charging to him, with no indication of stopping. She only had two seconds max to make a decision. And she let herself act on instinct again, and she threw herself on the sidewalk, bracing the boy. They rolled of the road and into the sidewalk. For a moment there was silence. Then the boy stood up and offered his hand to her. She took it and he hoisted her up. As she turned to leave, depressed again, he caught her shoulder. Spinning around, the most wonderful, magically, inspiring thing happened. He raised both hands and spelled out , THANK YOU. So yeah, it's a one-shot. :3 And this is about a girl who thought she was worthless because she's mute. Then she saves a boy and then it turns out he's mute too. She realizes that she's not the only one. -.- and yeah, bullying is matter in this. to bullying. :> Tell me what you think!
