Hi. I had an audition for the little mermaid yesterday, and I got callbacks tomorrow. I am very excited but I am kind of new at this, so I was wondering if anyone had any vocal warm ups or tips to give me. Please help me!!!!!! Haters gunna hate, but please don't post here if you don't have anything that you think might be helpful to me or others! Thanks~ LINDSEY
Drink lotsa water before it. Don't eat too much sweets, memorize the song well, like sing it in the shower, in the car, before you sleep. Use hand gestures, but not too over-the-top gestures. Mostly, be yourself and have fun.
One thing I realized is that I sing much better when I am not excited or nervous. By being excited, your heart rate goes up and you need to breathe more, hence you get a shortage of breath. Take a deep breath and just imagine you alone in that room and no one else. Once the first note comes out of your mouth, the tension will dissipate. As for exercises, I usually just sing the song a couple of times to loosen up. That's all. Don't over-sing prior to any performance/presentation.
Avoid all dairy products at least 12 hours prior to your audition. It causes your body to produce more phlegm and will affect your singing.
Oh, I've also heard that drinking some olive oil helps coat your vocal chords or something like that. Haha. It's supposed to help. I'm just not sure how great that would taste...
There's this chinese syrup called peypakua. Not sure if thats the spelling but ut sounds like it. It helps make your pharynx slippery. Also, take advantage of the spotlight if there is, best feeling ever. Don't get anxious. You'll have bronchoconstriction if you do, thus having possible wreck of performance just HAVE FUN. Do what you're destined for
I usually drink warm water. If the only thing you have is a water fountain, sip up the water and swish it around in your mouth until it is warm, then swallow it.
• Always remember to pronounce the words well. Good singing does not only require good pitch and harmony. • Vocalize. It helps in strengthening vocal cords. • Practice infront of the mirror. Add appropriate facial expressions and small hand gestures. Feeling the song adds points in your singing score. • Avoid clearing your throat. • Drink lukewarm water.
What we do in choir is warm up for like five to ten minutes. You have to learn the song as if you composed the song, and its about YOUR story. Memorization, and proper pronounciation Dont drink cold water, it cracks your voice up. No chewing gum, obviously. If youre hitting a low note, dont tilt your head down or hit it hard, the note is going to ugly, and it might harm you. For a high note, just let it out, and dont put so much power on it, again, it will turn out ugly. When singing, make sure you stand straight and professionaly, if sitting down, sit straight, feet down. Thats all i could remember o.o my choral director use to torture us
