WARNING: this is really long and not bb coded much, not pretty and rather boring. read if u wish but dont comment if u didnt read at least read half of it. this is a really big debate going around my school. is religion a good or bad factor of life? so i want some of your opnions about this but first heres some facts about religion. and yes ive done lots of research and reading about this prior to making this thread. cuz this may and probably will get outta hand. rules 1. no saying someone's opnion is wrong or bad just because u dont agree with it. 2. keep it cool no really intense arguing/ fighting over this. 3. everything u say must be within the ToU and RoC 4. this is just a thread to say your opinion dont get butthurt about someone elses opinion so what is your stand on religion? me personally i dont believe in religion i think its crap. does this mean i dont believe in a god? no, honestly i have no idea if a god exists as there is no legitimate proof of one existing. but the difference between a god existing and following a religion is huge. just look at the all the worlds problems thanks to religion. gay marriage to me gay marriage shouldnt even be a problem. its so stupid to argue about it and a waste of time. according to some religions "god sees and loves everyone equally". so why must u christans insist on hating? (im not saying all christans but most). after all, isnt it sinful to judge another person and take away their rights as people just because their different? racism yes, racism has a lot to do with religion. from being treated equally to having a war. let's get something staight: Hitler was a Catholic. He murdered millions in his holy quest to destroy the Jews; he claimed he was "Doing the Lords work" and, upon the eve of his war on Russia, the Pope CONGRATULATED his efforts. Throughout the war he was not excommunicated. In the Middle East countries war over something as silly as nonexistant entities. Since the begginging of recorded history man has made war on other men because they refused to worship the same invisible diety as another. (copied from urban dictionary with with edits to keep it clean) even killing yourself and thousands of other people in the name of your god "Allah Akbar". and this is ok? see this is why i hate religion it has corrupted us and brain washed us to believe that everything we do is right or ok as long as we say we did it (for) in the name of our god. it's ridiculous really. but before u say anything about atheists.... there are many different types of atheists: 1. An atheist who attacks others because they have a religion. 2. An atheist who accepts the fact that everyone has different beliefs. (Describes me.) 3. An atheist who can be either one of the above, yet is also a selfish ass who celebrates Christmas just so he can get presents. (Also describes me.) Let's end the stereotypes about atheists now. I'm an atheist. Does this mean I love science? Not necessarily. I simply did not feel anything whatsoever going to church when I was little, and therefore, stopped believing. It was when I got older that the "Is religion really plausible?" thoughts popped into my head. Does it mean that I have faith in the government? Au contraire--I think the government and politicians and all that junk are mostly corrupt and stupid. Do I hate other people for believing in God? Nope. Have I ever gone out of my way to convince a theist that what I believe is right? That's wrong too. I can't tell you for sure whether I'm right or wrong--it's not like a have proof or anything--so I don't bother with arguing over it. Unfortunately, a lot of theists don't pay me the same respect. Am I evil? A theist may think so, but I don't. I love giving to charities, I participate in my school's choir, I love my family, and I don't smoke, drink excessively, I've never betrayed anyone, I get good grades, and I'm really nice to others. (except in pimd) I also have faith--not in a God, but in myself and those around me. I believe in living my life as happily as I can, since it is the only life I think I have to live. I don't constantly look to God to pull me through tough times; I pull myself through and make myself stronger. (copied from urban dictionary with with edits to keep it clean) so with that being said personally im an atheist. i hate religion and believe that that is the cause of 90% of worlds issues. i dont believe theres a god but i believe that if people stopped arguing and fighting over religious beliefs and just believed theres a god without having to follow strict religions then the world would be a lot better place. well if u read all that thanks for reading it so, what is your opnion on religion? is it a good or bad factor of life?
Religion to me is not legitimate. The heavenly father is the creator of this earth,Long as you know him and pray to him and keep your face in the bible you are good. There are too many religions, Shows that the devils plans is in action but will be away soon
Religion is a really touchy subject not something that should really be discuss on forums. Everyone has a different opinion. Let's leave it at that.
I'm a devout believer of God but not religion. Religion is man made therefore it's an untrustworthy source of guidance for me. And it doesn't matter what other people think, it only matters what you think.
Religions aren't made to be taken literally for me. It's just a guide on how to live a good life. But like i've said dont take it literally. Be kind, Be nice to people, Do charity works because you want to help others rather than doing it because of religion. We got free will. Everybody has the choice wether you are going to choose to believe in religions pr not.
Good in moderation, to be able to think for ones self and not be corrupt by strong emotions and clouded beliefs is admirable.
The best part of this was the atheism stuff. I feel like you missed a big one though, which has to do with many people thinking that bc youre an atheist, you don't have morals. As if religion is what puts morality into human beings, as opposed to it being much larger than that. I consider myself a humanist, so I can relate to some of the stuff you've said. I am one to think that religion itself isn't bad, but how many interpret it and manipulate it for their own purposes is *the* issue. That isn't an original stance by any means, but that's how I think of things.
My bad issue is I don't really follow gods rules. But I believe he is real. Why would god not be real yet evil exists? And I mean evil as in things humans can't explain. Many ppl doesn't want to except what is really around us until some big bad comes a knocking. Then they want help. As for gays ppl twist words too much. Yes god loves his children but he will pass his own judgment when the time comes. If you did research even on important events in the bible you would read how god had sent angels to a city to destroy it. They let only one family walk about and gave them instructions to never look back. The wife was so worried about her items she left behind, she turned around and was turned into a piller of salt. But you could also leave out god when it comes to gays and just bring up science. Humans were made to reproduce male with female. Eh so take it how you want. Murder is never right in gods eyes unless you are fighting for your own life. Also killings ones self god doesn't except bcuz to him life is precious & a blessing in his eyes. Religion is too big of a subject to debate on and touchy. Many will have views that they see is right and you can't change that. In the end all I can say is live life how you want. In the end only you can answer for your choices in life.
don't use urban dictionary to get your info worse place to look ever. I was raised to find my own path in regards to religion and what I believe in. When I was younger I used to walk to bible study by myself, because back then kids could walk without a parent and no one would freak. Ahh the good old days. Anyway, no one forced me to go to bible study I wanted to go and participate. I loved the fellowship and niceness of the people. Then I had an issue in my own personal life and moved away from organized religion or religion in general and became a militant atheist. Was dead set on the fact that there was no god. It was just nothing. Then through other struggles in life I explored and researched many different types of religion and spirituality. And I found, every major religion has basically the same underlying moral code. There's just different "laws" in every religion. I've been a self proclaimed Buddhist in philosophy for awhile now, and I try to guide my life by those beliefs, however I am by no means a strict follower on all of the teachings. I still eat meat, I still smoke, and I still drink. But these days I'm a fan of if you believe in something awesome and if you want to go and be in a congregation awesome. But it's not for everyone. I practice by myself and that fits me. Organized religion has good and bad aspects, and yes organized religion can be an excuse for people to do idiotic things in the name of whatever thing they decide to worship. But at the end of the day organized religion has also done good. In inner cities churches help the homeless, the drug addicted, the poor, those afflicted by gang violence. There's missionaries that go and build schools in underdeveloped nations and help kids learn how to read and write. There's a lot of good they do do as well. Nothing is ever as black and white as people make it seem.
Warning long reply WITHOUT bb coding Op I think you’ve made the most common mistake which a lot of people make, which is to confuse religion with the act carried out by humans in the name of that religion. No religion commands the destruction or killing of another race or religion. To say religion is responsible for racism or genocide or any other cruel act is totally flawed. Just because one person says he’s doing something in the name of his religion doesn’t mean that the religion is at fault but what it does mean is that the person is at fault. Eample, as a player of pimd If I went out and killed people and said I did it in the name of PIMD, does that mean PIMD is at fault or does it mean I am at fault? Religion is manipulated and used by certain people to further their own agendas. How can someone say they are doing something in the name of whichever religion when the very act they are committing goes against the teachings of that religion. Case in point, In Islam it is said any person who kills another human without just cause, then it is as if that person has killed all of humanity and he will be judged accordingly. In Islam it is also said that someone who commits suicide will not be granted a place in heaven, so how can these people who become suicide bombers in the name of Islam be considered Muslims and how can they say they will get a place in heaven by committed this act when the very act itself goes against the teachings of Islam? The answer is they can’t. We really need to look at religion and the acts carried out by people in the name of religion as separate issues.
Interesting topic you brought up i will not deny in every discussion about religion the centerpiece is always Catholic vs islam and have always been quite a big controversy everywhere. Religion is a practice and believe you stand on, carry with you even at the lowest point of your life and is the meaningful part of your soul, yes, i believe it has an influential aspect in one's conduct, it helps you acquire resilience and discipline. Regardless, whether you are catholic, jewish, muslim, These religions have set boundaries that may be seen as limitations to others, but its the practicioner the belief as a whole will define it . It is important to note that different religion have different views (and different types of believers )on how to amake a person a more resilient and disciplined person, mind body and soul. Therefore any actions of a practicioner of a belief is.. what they believe best to approach it. yes, there religions that forces you into it,but thats just one sector of a religion, and there are also groups that claim to be a believer of a religion but their practise are far astray from the religion. And there are those groups of believrs, who will guide and help you to learning and understanding the religion itself in the purest form to gain peace within yourself, peace even when you're tired or excited. This, only if you open the doors of your heart to its embrace Yes, some may not be as peaceful such as the fact that they are against gay marriage, and war. There are religions that condemn gay marriage and its practise, it still does not mean there are no gays in the religion or interrupt the spiritual connection you have with god(who's business is it what you do in private anyway? (; lol ) god will always hear your call as long as you're still alive and god can keep a secret too, unlike practicioners, haha As for war, i believe its a pattern of political misconduct and fight for extraction of resources or information, i mean, its human nature to be envious of others. Its what you do against it that makes you a perp of media stereotypes or an angel. Religion has no part of it, just to make it clear to all there are catholic and muslims and jews and other faiths in middle east. And they do stand together as a nation and there is no difference between one and the other in their political protest, they are one. That's rather long but i sincerely hope i dont offend anyone. My apologies in advance if i may have . Have a good day y'all
