I'm tired. Seriously. So few of you can give good criticism, most of you are God awful at roleplaying, and Goddamn, the majority of you write like you're five year olds with unauthorized control of your moms' phones. I'm not being mean. It's just that nearly all of you type like you have never paid attention in English class or have a decent vocabulary for your age. I can honestly say I'm one of the youngest people on FF, and it's just shameful knowing that I'm more capable of using proper grammar than the majority FF. Before you post, re-read, and fucking edit. Grab a thesaurus or a dictionary if you need to. :/ Honestly. It's a space AFTER A PERIOD, NOT BEFORE, OR NONE. ALWAYS A SPACE AFTER PUNCTUATION, MAN. And capitalization! God, will it hurt you so much to just use the shift button? As for punctuation... Why do none of you use commas? Quotation marks? Exclamation marks? Semicolons? Periods? Unless you don't know what their uses are for, you have no excuse to not use punctuation. Do us all a favor and don't make me read a crap story just because you're too damn lazy to punctuate your sentences. And oh boy, grammar. GRAMMAR. I'm not even going to explain why this is important. It should be damn obvious. As for description... I'm not going to guess where the hell the protagonist is, what his house looks like or how he looks like or anything unless you tell me. No, don't rush the descriptions, that tells me you're a kind of author who rushes things and doesn't plan things cautiously, and planning is important. A backstory and character development won't hurt either. As for criticism... It's crucially important. When I give you criticism and you don't improve by using the tips, it tells me that you're either too lazy to do so or you're incapable of doing so, and it's never the latter. Those who give out constructive criticism, kudos to you, you're the reasons why I still have hope for the small part of society where everyone is literate. As for roleplays? Again, my rant does not only apply to stories but to roleplays too. Stop spamming the fuck out of forums with unoriginality and bullcrap, and actually make sense. Make a plot, insert much-needed rules, be at least slightly exclusive so that your roleplayers have a sense of originality and won't use cheap ass Edward Cullen look-alikes as their sign up sheet pictures. And before you ask, yes, yes you do need to make at least a paragraph for your in-character response to the roleplay. Don't just go 'OMG NO' and leave it there, actually use description and shit. I'm sorry, but I really needed to let this out. Right now in FF I see a bunch of insignificant wanna-be writers who don't even knows the BASICS. I'm not saying I have the right to judge since I'm not a professional or whatever, I just find it pathetic. -- I'm done with my rant. If I find a single hypocrite on my thread I will not hesitate to call you out. :|
Hai. That's a rather justified rant.. I like to think that I have decent grammar, but I like putting commas in places I think they should go, that are usually incorrect, and fragmenting sentences. I also like using two periods, instead of one or an ellipses. I'm weird like that. Plus, I don't know grammar inside out. Nowhere near that. (Sorry, Ms. Okano... I wasn't paying attention.) As for criticism. Oh my freaking goodness. When I post a story, not only do I frigging want you to help me to improve, I want you to hate on me or something if you don't freaking like it. I hate the PIMD FF community for this. You're too goddamn nice. You'll ease along someone blatantly hopeless that writes absolute trash, just because he mentions Twilight. Seriously? Tell the people that are hopeless to go back to freaking third grade. WE'RE NOT IN THIRD GRADE ANYMORE. And on my own stories? Holy fudge nuggets. I want to smack the majority of people who leave comments on my stories sometimes because all PIMD knows how to do is praise. And sometimes, they praise the wrong people. Completely wrong. I admit it. I don't leave criticism at all. I'm completely over that. I used to try, in KaW. Yeah, I'm a native of. FF and I were pretty close. I know my stuff, generally. I can pinpoint what's wrong. But you know what? I don't think the majority of this community deserves it, and I'm tired of trying when nobody's going to care. Role playing. Ugh, holy Cheezits. Don't even want to go there. I roleplayed, I really did. I'll admit it and even go to tell you my character, but you really don't care. And it's funny, because KaW tells roleplayers to go to PIMD, where they don't care. Maybe my perspective's a little different now, after a few weeks of this. I loathe most roleplayers because they're entirely illiterate and the roleplays are practically just PG-13 romance with a complete and utter excuse plot. Un edited, un proof read. Cookie to anyone who spots all of the examples of my crappy grammar.
You know what I enjoy? When people write rants like this, and they make mistakes. It makes me happy. I mean very good point and all but still, proof read your rants so you don't sound like you're talking about something you have no clue about. I mean I know you guys get the grammar and punctuation, and all but still. Don't yell at someone for this if you can't spell "un-edited". There's a hyphen guys, c'mon.
And you consider not inserting something so insignificant like a hyphen is a mistake, and that it's something so huge that it makes my ENTIRE rant insignificant and completely flawed? How amusing. Thank you for pointing that out, and pardon my 'mistake', but your reasoning is invalid. And before this becomes a shit hurl of insults and opinionated posts being thrown here and there, just let me say something. If you honestly think I have no idea on what I'm talking about JUST BECAUSE I DIDN'T PUT A HYPHEN IN 'UNEDITED', then please, brah. Know that shits cannot be given. Ughhhhhhhh gawd whyyyyy
I absolutely agree with the both of you...even though i'm not very good in english because its not my first language. I apologize if my previous story had any mistakes and i will try to improve. Besides, i'm still young. Theres more room for improvement. Thank you for sharing your opinions Harsh criticism is needed here. Very well done with the rants
Honestly. There are so many problems of ff..... I agree with Chloe. Chloe is an experienced "out of the box" writer. Not only is she my friend, but I give full respect. Chloe Even If I didn't know her, she's correct. Some may be young around here, but still. There are ways to help, like grammar and such. Just look around others that are looked upon to help. IS IT TOO HARD TO ASK FOR HELP? I think not. Plus I love Chloe's rants. So yeah, there are ways to help, but ff must improve. Im already on the move of leaving ff be abuse of its poor outcome.
Destroyer, you were one of the reasons FF was clogged up with crap RPs. Just look at your assassin one. I have to admit that the plot is a tad bit more original than the rest, but you're being careless about the people signing up. Originality is one of the most important things in making a roleplay, and so is character. Right now that roleplay of yours lacks either. Correct me if I'm wrong, that is your roleplay, right?
Yeah that's mine I've been having some role players writing block lately I know it's not my best work
Lord, trying to fix this crap hole. You're wrong. Unedited is one word, there is no hyphen or space, as a clarification, of course. My own grammar is okay, by my own standards, a misplaced period here, semicolons, I don't use, because I simply don't like them. I use a lot of commas, and I tend to write when I am completely and utterly exhausted. People are stupidly nice and I hate most stories I read. Yet, I remain. And I'm tired here as well, so don't expect anything that makes sense come from me.
This is the main reason that I don't continue my stories anymore. I haven't been on FF for so long until this day when I accidentally clicked on FF. So much RPs now and stories that have the same plot or whatever. I honestly don't know what I'm saying anymore. So yeah, bye.
This. Thisssss. I mean, great. The people here are supportive. But when they tell somebody that their one sentence text speak story that's devoid of any sort of effort or grammar (Or an actual ORIGINAL plot) is "perfect" and "should be published", you're only encouraging them to write more useless crap. Guide them instead. But then a lot of people get defensive when somebody tries to give constructive criticism, and accuse them of "bashing their story" and pull the bullying card. ,_, Or they say "there's nothing wrong with their story, just look at how many people say its perfect" Really? Really?
This place has been overrun with crappy rps so you barely find/read a good story (good as in an semi-original plot and is somewhat interesting)
What kind of sick people join in on Role-Plays anyway? There is no spine to it so PLEASE!! Make a RP club or something keep this crap out of FF!
