Rate My Room Is Broken

Thats a standard rule anyway. But people dont care

 

I’d love to see improvements to RMR with incentives for voting too, to get more people involved

 

The entire thing is just boring. Its a popularity contest not a design contest. No matter the intention of the game it wont change how people vote in them types of games

 

See, I think the problem is that, to even vote, you have to submit an entry, and that's where a lot of those empty/noob rooms come from. My bf admits he just throws on a couple random furnis so he can assist me and blow through his 30 likes. It'd be much better if anyone could vote, so if you don't have enough furni or you don't think your entry would hold up, you can still participate by going in and voting.

Also, they should bring back the little daily thing where we'd get rewards for voting. I think the rewards were small, but it was an incentive for more people to join and vote in Rate My Room

 

okay, so I've been thinking about this a little bit because your suggestions for how to fix it are just not good, at all, but I didn't want to point this out unless I felt like I could offer a suggestion that would actually fix it in a way that was fair to all players because your suggestion would make it so that only players who have tons of furniture or know lots of people willing to give them furniture to decorate their dorm would be able to participate and benefit from it. it's not an awful point, I think that players who spend more time playing the game do deserve benefits for all their time put into the game, but there are already very few benefits to smaller players who join the game. they can't party hop like they used to in the past because of how high the stat limits for most clubs are, most newbies just end up in dead clubs that don't allow them to grow and end up having no interest in continuing the game. the rate my dorm feature is a great way for all players of the game to participate in an XC (most of them can't participate in the others, it's too hard to participate in the spotlight, and only party fairies really get the benefits of the collectathon) but even as it is, it's still broken. as much as you may complain about how the system is set up, it's a small minority who actually manage to get into the top 750 with their noobish dorm.

so here's how I suggest the rate my dorm XC be fixed;
first of all, remove the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place reward tiers. create a flatter curve where the top 10, top 100, top 750 and top 2500 each receive the same rewards. thereafter, players need to "participate" to get their dorms rated. right now, all you need to do is make a dorm and leave it at that. I think that creating a system where players have a limited amount of times that their dorms can be rated by random players will help ensure that people who actively participate in the XC get priority, and you can do this in a number of ways. maybe for every 5/10/15 dorms you rate, your dorm gets submitted for one review up to a max of 10. that way, players who actually rate other people's dorms and participate in the XC will get the benefits of it. you can also have a timer where your dorm gets submitted for a review once ever 1/2/4 hours up to a maximum of 10. these effects can stack. this doesn't fix the issue you brought up though, which is that noob dorms can (occasionally) get pushed ahead of other players with simple furniture. honestly, ATA just needs to better ensure that dorms that have similar furniture go up against one another
(for example, dorms that are missing the same types of furniture go against each other, dorms with similar amounts of starter furniture go against each other). I know this doesn't ENTIRELY fix the issue you brought up, but it kinda does meet your issue halfway because, again, a lot of players just submit noob dorms and leave it at that, then those dorms get voted up purely by chance. this system would ensure that only players who actively participate in the XC reap the rewards (yes, players with noob dorms who are actively participating in the XC will still have that benefit of not having great furniture and potentially getting pushed up, but honestly they're active and participating in the XC so I think they would deserve it as opposed to people with alts making simple dorms who get rewarded for nothing, or those like the player above me whose bf makes a dorm just to boost someone else.)

it seems like it would promote a more fair, more active gameplay with regards to this XC with more fair rewards distributed to those who participate, as opposed to how the system is set up now - only rewarding stacked players and random people who are never on theme.

this is a lot to read, I apologise. and it's probably incoherent too, but there's no issue giving my input if it isn't attempting to solve the issue and I wanted a thorough breakdown into how I think the XC could be made better and more fair to everyone. the one thing all players have, regardless of stats, is a dorm and time on their hands, and those who spend more time playing also deserve some rewards for it.

I didnt read all but i did read a bit. Gave me a idea.
Scrap the ehole you can only put in furni that you own. Have it as q real design game that EVERYONE has a equal chance at. Meaning have the full furni inventory available to choose from. You dont get to keep the furni you decide to pick but you have the chance at actul making a good dorm to suit coz you have everything to pick from for it.

I like designing rooms. And i would probly actul play if it was set this way. I dont care abit with how it is coz i dont want to horde masses of furni. I spent months clearing the 400 odd furni i had once before coz it was just to much. Atm only black market traders and rich people (bento rich or irl rich and just buys the ec to get the furni) have a chance at getting anything. So whats even the point in trying

 

some of these are really great ideas to help improve the Rate my room XC! I suggest posting them in the PIMD discord where the devs could see them as I know they can't go through every forum post. these are some really great ideas guys and some extra exposure would not hurt at all

 

My biggest dislike about the rate my dorm is when you wanna skip starter furniture rooms but have to wait 10 seconds for more starter furniture dorms. There should be a requirement of a minimum amount of actual furniture used before you can submit it.

 

Rate my room is broken. It makes no sense that someone gets 1st place when it has nothing to do with the theme. Everyone should be able to vote- not just people who submit rooms. I’m currently losing to a room that didn’t do anything related to the theme and a starter furniture room 🙄

 

Its purely a popularity contest. If you dont know lots of people that like you you dont have any chance of winning

 

Support. This needs a fix. I thought I had a half decent dorm and it was top 100 only to not receive any more votes and end like in the 1,000 place.

This happened despite me going through the 30-35 votes I have several times. And while I did that the 10 sec wait to skip was annoying and I ended up voting for half filled dorms that were not even close to the theme. Then when I checked the top 100 maybe 1-2 of those dorms **were** those half filled dorms that didn’t fit the theme. Waste of time. That’s why I rarely play it.

 

Simple question, isn't it a limit to how many support votes you can get? I thought 5 was the max you could get from friends throughout the whole rate my room? Asking due to several mentions of it being a popularity contest

 

Yeah you can only get 5 assists so I honestly don’t understand the popularity contest statement either

 

I think what some people do is they take pictures of their room and share it with their friends so if their friends see it during regular voting, they can still vote for it and get it up higher. I tried it with a couple alts, but it was way too much work, and I still couldn't get into top 750 😅

 

I tried to skip every single room that didn't fit the theme and the game started to show me the same rooms that I already skipped. Or there are a bunch of rooms that have the same random items in it or this xc is broken af

 

Where has Rate my room gone and when is it coming back?
