This little rant will be about 2 words that I have seen being thrown around campus and walls as if one is totally independent of the other. It is linked to a silly evolution in society that results from both laziness and stupidity. Fun. Okay so on PIMD people have been using the words "Trade" and "Sell" in ways that are unique to PIMD and rather lame. Here "Trade" means "the exchanging of gifts for other gifts." And "Sell" means "the exchanging of gifts for money(either via dvp or ts)" Why does this not make any sense? Well why does it? The onus is on you. Okay so one hypothesis that I have for why this is, is that selling is a one-sided thing. The act of selling is just one side of a trade. So they see it as a one-sided trade. Before the next point of the rant can be reached we need to add some salt. MONEY. When you go down to the supermarket, do you barter with the cashier? No. Don't be silly. That is so eccentric and annoying. You just pay the price on the tag. It's practically a crime to pay less! They will tell you you're nuts and kick you out of the store for wasting the time of the people behind you in line. Lol The act of buying an item from the shops these days is so one-sided. You don't lose a thing of yours for something of theirs. That's not how it works. You just get that thing of theirs for whatever it's worth. The consumer no longer actively "buys" and item. They simply get sold it. Don't call me stupid. This makes sense K? Okay now onto the rant. The fact that we no longer need to work to buy something. This change in the identity of the wealth we hold from what was once animals, furs, grain and so on to a pool of distributable money, makes trading seem less intimate. We don't place value on our goods and we get to resist the market's value of it. No. We just pay what we're offered. And from our laziness to challenge this the whole distinction between trade and sell is made. When in reality. Selling is just one element of trading and there is no sale without both a buy and a sell. Tl;Dr Really poorly explained theory. Selling is an element of trading. Not a separate action.
To be honest, terminology doesn't bother me. Games tend to evolve and have their own jargon or meaning to things. What bothers me is how a lot of players (at least in my campus) seem to equate kindness with giving them free stuff.
ahahahahaha and new players when you hire them. "But you have so many chibis" I call it extortion and block.
I understand what you're saying, op. It irks me too. This is the kind of thing that happens when we give rise to commercialism and consumerism.
Yep. Bargaining is still a thing. I wouldn't bargain over a bundle of asparagus at my grocery store though
Not at all. If saving money or contesting a price is strange well idk what to tell you. But if you were to go to craigslist, people try to bargain all the time. I don't find it weird
