Borneo and Sumatra are on fire! Why? There are many reasons, the main one being farmers start small slash and burn fires to clear the land to build Palm Oil plantations. Unfortunately with it being a bad drought, these fires have begun spreading out of control. Why should I care? As a consumer, you should be aware of ingredients in your food/beauty supplies. Palm oil is a major ingredient in everyday items such as chocolates, dog food, shampoos, soaps and an assortment of other food items. Not all Palm Oil is bad, there are plenty of farmers who don't clear out the forests to build farms. This is called Sustainable Palm Oil. Unsustainable Palm Oil occurs where farmers go into a forest and clear it out to build a plantation. Many animal and plant species are destroyed to make this happen. One very important species currently at risk already is the Orangutan. They are found on both Borneo and Sumatra. As of today, the largest wild population of Borneo Orangutans' habitat is being threatened by fires that are basically circling it. What can I do to help? Be aware of the products you purchase. Make sure the ingredients are Sustainable. Talk to your friends. Post a cute picture of an Orangutan online. We have to work as a team to try to solve this problem! One more way, is to reach out to your local News network. It seems Western Media is not too proactive when it comes to Conservation messages- especially overseas! There is only one Planet Earth. It's amazing! Let's not destroy it! Here's a picture of a cute orangutan!
Supporttt eek they're so stinking cute, but honestly it bothers me that so many people are turning their habitat into plantations for their own benefit... it's worse when you approach someone who you know has a farm overseas there, but they don't even care.
You say hippie like it's a bad thing. You're darn tootin' I care about the environment. Saying our bodies cannot survive without killing thousands of acres of forests is like saying it's better to wipe before you poop- it just doesn't make any sense. Now, I'm not trying to feed the trolls here, but honestly. Your nutrition class told you the fact. That our bodies need these certain things to be healthy, and I get that. However there are plenty of other oils that are collected in a way that no animals are harmed. It's about changing how we view things to find the better alternative. Not only what's healthy for us, but healthy for our planet, too! ️
Other oils are mainly polysaturated or saturated fatty acids. You sound like peeta. Taking half truth and presenting them like facts. This is why hippies have no credibility...half ass research
