Kitty was a sixteen year old girl living in the city. She lost her parents two years ago to a vampire killing them. She left the small town she grew up in trying to forget about it but she never can forget them. She was waiting in the middle of the city for her friend Kara. She began thinking of her mother and how she looks like her mom when she was sixteen. She missed her mom a lot and wished she wasn't killed. As she was deep in thought, a guy brushed past her and walked into the alleyway about a block away. She followed him with curiosity and when she was about to walk into the alley she noticed his bright blue eyes and amazingly shiny black hair. She wanted to walk up to him and ask him what his name was. She was about to when she heard her name being called behind her and she turned around to see who it was. "Kitty! Hey Kitty! What are you doing over here?" It was Kara. She was Kitty's best friend. She was really Kitty's only real friend. She had her bright strawberry blond hair and her wonderful green eyes. "Hey Kara. I was just looking for someone I thought I knew. Sorry. I should have stayed where I was" "It's alright. Lets just go to the mall already!" "Yeah. I guess we should get going." "Yeah! I'm ready to pick out my prom dress! I can't wait for Eric to see how amazing I will look! My dress will be perfect!" Kitty laughed at Kara. Kara was always talking about her wonderful boyfriend Eric. She thinks he is perfect. She keeps nagging Kitty about her needing to get a boyfriend and to not go to the prom alone when Kitty really didn't care. She really didn't want a boyfriend. She still couldn't trust a guy. She went with Kara to get prom dresses.
The thought of the mysterious guy was still lingering in Kitty's mind all afternoon and even in the morning when she went to school. She got a big shock at who she saw in the seat right next to hers in her first period. She sat in her seat and watched him from the corner of her eye. She couldn't believe it! It was him! She thought about him all last night and yesterday and she thought she wouldn't seen him again until she got to school. She turned toward him and decided to try and talk to him. "Hi. I'm Kitty. You must be new." She watched him as she introduced herself. "Hi. I am new. I'm Damon. Nice to meet you I guess Kitty." He extended his hand which was in white gloves. They looked old. They were off white and looked like it was silk. She shook his hand and noticed how it felt cold. She figured that was the silk glove but she wasn't sure. She didn't get a chance to ask because the bell rang and she had to pay attention for class. She wanted to ask Damon more about himself. She wanted to really get to know him. She felt like someone was watching her and she looked from the corner of her eye and saw Damon watching and she bent her head over and hid her face behind her long, silky black hair. Was he watching her? Could he want to talk to her. Why does his eyes look darker than they did yesterday? She wanted to ask him but as the period flew by she kept herself quiet and copied down notes. Kitty wanted to follow him to his next class to ask him things, but she didn't know where his class was. It was so strange having him watch her, and she wanted to know why he was. The bell rang and he ran out of the class. She walked out in the hall and looked for him while walking to her next class. She had Geometry for second period, and she had the class with Kara. She walked into the classroom and sat in her seat next to Kara and saw Kara's smile before she could even say anything. "Hey Kara. Why are you so happy?" "Did you see the new kid this morning? Every girl here is going crazy over him! He drives a Charger and looks rich! Did you see him?" Kitty laughed at Kara and thought how she goes crazy over every guy here. She has always been with Eric but she still talks and talks and talks about the other guys. "Yeah I saw him. His name is Damon. He sits next to me in my English two class. He isn't that hot. I mean he's attractive, but I don't think he'd like a girl who still cries about her parents being killed." "You couldn't help your parents getting killed Kitty! That wasn't your fault! How did they get killed again? I don't think you told me." "I didn't tell you and I'm not going to tell you Kara. I want to forget about it. I think I'm going to talk to Damon at Lunch and try and get to know him." Kitty didn't really plan to. She just want to get Kara off her back about her parents. Kara doesn't know vampires exist. If she knew she would freak out. Kitty moved to the city to get away from vampires and so far she hasn't seen any. She was happy.
As she went through her day, she kept thinking about Damon and wanting to get to know him. She looked for him at lunch and spotted him at a table in the corner alone. Se walked over and looked up at him. "Hey Damon. Can I join you for lunch?" "Sure. I was going to stay here alone but I accept the company." Kitty looked at Damon as he talked and slowly ate her food and thought there was something different about him. She thought he might be a vampire, but that's impossible he is living in city now. As Kitty watched around here no vampires came here. They stuck to the towns and small places. They liked to be around more of their kind. "So why did you move here? It's not that special here and you look like you are rich. You could have gone somewhere better." "I moved here because I wanted to get away from my family. I was tired of living alone with just them and not being able to go into civilization when i want to. I left so I wouldn't be alone." Kitty watched him and thought about why he left. Why would he want to be in a place like this? It's just a big city that no one even pays attention to you in unless you do something and being rich and living here isn't any different than being rich and living in a little town out away from people. "Well if you need any help I can-" "I won't need it. I already know my way around and I'm only here to finish school and then I'm leaving. I have to find someone and you wouldn't understand. No mindless little human would ever understand." Kitty caught the part about her being a mindless human and froze. He wasn't human? What was he then? Oh please don't be a vampire. "What do you mean by a mindless human? Do you mean you aren't a human?" "Huh? Oh! Um. Yeah I'm human. I guess. If I weren't than what would I be? A vampire or a werewolf? Those don't exist!" Kitty thought about it for a minute and realized what he just said. Werewolves are real too? Oh no. "You don't believe in vampires or werewolves?" "Oh. I believe in them alright. I just say that they don't exist because you should worry about them. Thay can ruin your life. Never get mixed up with them." "I can't stay away from them anyway. It seems like the memory of them follows me everywhere I go. How can I stay away from them?" "Wait. What do you mean you can't stay away from them? Why can't you stay away from them?" "I can't stay away from vampires. One killed my parents. I came here to get away from them, but they keep coming and I keep hiding and trying to not be near them. I can't stand them. I lost my parents to them and I thought I was in lo-" Kitty caught herself before she said she was in love with one and Damon noticed what she was going to say. "You though you were what?". "Nothing. I don't want to talk about it. Don't bring it up. I want to forget it!" Kitty got up and went running out of the cafeteria and went home early and cried all night. She hoped to not have to talk about what happened when her parents were killed. She just wanted to forget it. She slowly drifted off to sleep and as she got to sleep she dreamt of Damon.
She didn't want to get out of bed and go to school, but Kara insisted. She wouldn't stop texting Kitty all morning until she agreed to go to school. When she got to the school she sat in her seat and ignored Damon the entire time. He kept trying to get her to talk to him and she refused and kept coming close to tears. This went on for the rest of the week. She told Kara she would go and stay the weekend with her just so Kara knew she was alright. When she got to her house she knocked and Kara's brother answered the door. "Hey Kitty, Kara is in her room. You can go on up." Kitty looked at him and smiled. He is Kara's older brother and yet he is so handsome. She thought about him and had a crush on him for a while after she first met him. She grew used to him after about a year, but she was still kinda attracted to him. What could she do? "Hey Daniel, I'll go up to her room after I go to the bathroom." Kitty went down the hall and a few minutes later she went upstairs and opened Kara's door and saw Damon sitting on her bed talking to her. She froze and looked at them wide eyed. "Kara, I thought this was just going to be a me and you weekend?" "Huh? Oh yeah! Well I thought we could hang out with Damon too! Isn't it a good idea!" Kara didn't know the reason why Kitty ignores him all this week and she did t want to explain it to Kara. She sat on the bed and hid her face from Damon while they talked. "Hey guys I'll be right back. I have to go tell my brother something. I'll be back in a minute." Kitty looked up shocked as Kara walked out of the room. What was she going to do in a room alone with Damon? She didn't want to talk to him at all! "Kitty, I'm sorry of I offended you on Monday. I don't understand what I said. I just want to know what happened in your life with vampires. Please tell me. I feel really bad that I hurt you and I want to make it up to you. You are a really bright girl and you are very beautiful too. Please don't be mad at me." Kitty looked him in his eyes for the first time since she got to Kara's house and had tears in her eyes. "I really don't want to talk about what happened. I hadn't even told Kara! Why should I tell you!" "You should because I believe I am falling for you Kitty! I care about you!" "You barely know me! How can you love me?". "I don't know! I just do!" He suddenly leaned toward Kitty and kissed her. She was so shocked that she froze. Why is he kissing her? She didn't want to get close to a guy anymore. Not since what happened with Jake. She didn't want that to happen again. She couldn't help herself and she kissed him back. After a few minutes passed Damon stopped kissing Kitty and she got to catch her breath. "What was that for?" "I told you. I think I'm falling for you! I want to help you!" "Why would you want to help a parentless girl like me! You can't get rid of the memories of the vampire that killed my parents! He just turned out to be a big jerk and that why I left!" "Who was he Kitty? Who was the vampire?" "His name is Jake. He was my boyfriend." Kitty started crying and quickly hugged Damon tight and didn't let go. "He told me he was a vampire after we had been together for a year! I thought I was in love with him! He made me feel like it! Then I came home to find my mom dead in the kitchen and-" Kitty saw it all in her mind like it was yesterday.
(flashback) "Mom! Mom! Wake up!". She shook her mom trying to wake her up. She got up and looked for her dad. "Dad? Dad? Are you home? Hello?" Kitty hears something in her mom and dad's room so she walks in and sees Jake biting her dad's neck. She stairs at him wide eyed and scared. "Jake! What are you doing? Why did you just kill my parents? I thought you loved me!" Kitty is crying and down on her knees now. Jake walks up to her and drops her dad's lifeless body on the floor. "Kitty, Baby, I do love you. That's why I did this. So we could be together forever. You can't stay with your parents now that they know what I am so I came to talk to them and get them to let u come with me. They refused and forced me to kill them so I an get you. I had to Baby. I love you." He tried to hug Kitty, but she flinched and moved away from him. "Why? Why kill my parents? I loved my mom and dad! I wasn't really to leave them! I told you that I wasn't going to leave with you until I was ready to leave! Why did you not listen to me?" Kitty got up and ran to her room and quickly packed her clothes and belongings and went back to Jake and looked at him with hatred. "I will never forgive you! Don't follow me or go looking for me! I am leaving and I never want to see you again!" Kitty ran out of the house.
(present time) Kitty is in Damon's arms crying and holding onto him for deal life till she fell asleep. She awoke in Damon's arms in the guest bedroom the next morning and cuddled up to him and went back to sleep thinking about how Damon didn't try and use her past against her. She smiled in her sleep. She woke up again and laid her head on Damon's chest forgetting it was him until he spoke. "Good morning beautiful. Are you feeling better?" Kitty sat up and looked at him shocked. "How did I end up asleep in your arms?" She thought about last night and remembered crying to sleep in Kara's room and holding tightly to someone who was comforting her. "Oh my God! Did I tell you what happened? Oh God! I didn't want anyone to know about that! I didn't want anyone to know about Jake! You can't tell anyone!" She looked at him sitting up and he apparently took his shirt off sometime last night. He has a very nice chest and abs Kitty thought. She was looking at his chest until she felt his hand on her cheek a few minutes later and looked up into his eyes. Why do they look even darker? When Kitty first saw them they were bright blue and now they were dark blue, almost black! "What happened to your eyes? They were a bright blue when I first saw them. They are almost black now. What happened?" "That's something I would have to explain about myself, but you might not want to ever see me again if I tell you. I love you Kitty. Please promise me you won't hate me when I tell you." Kitty looked deep in his eyes and saw he really did care. A handsome, rich guy like Damon really likes a small, broke, emotional girl like Kitty. "I can try." "Promise me first. Promise me you won't run away or hate me after I tell you. Please Kitty promise me." "I promise Damon. I won't run away or hate you. I promise." She surprised herself and Damon when she leaned forward and kissed him all of a sudden. They kissed for a few minutes and then they leaned away from each other. "I love you Kitty. Remember that even after I tell you about myself." "I will Damon. I love you too. I can't believe it, but I actually love a guy even after I said I wouldn't." "Well I hope that love is real because you might freak out after I tell you what I have to." Kitty watched Damon as he got ready to tell her and she held her breath as he began to speak. "Kitty, I know you hate vampires because of what Jake did to you, but they aren't all like that. I'm not like that. Kitty, I myself am a vampire. I hate to have to tell you with you hating them because of Jake, but he is nothing. Forget him for me, my love. And don't hate me just because I'm a vampire."
Kitty looked at him shocked and stopped breathing for a few minutes trying to respond to what he said. She finally got herself under control and backed up from him quickly frightened. "You are a vampire! Why? Why try and fall in love with me then! I can't believe you didn't tell me before! Why Damon? Why? Why did I have to fall for another vampire? Is my lie destined to be with a dangerous vampire? Why can't they just leave me alone? Why?" Kitty is on her knees crying when Kara walked in the room and looked at Kitty and then at Damon. "What just happened? Why is Kitty crying? Is she alright?". Kara runs up to Damon and looks at him seriously. "She is crying and upset about what happened to her parents. She was since last night. I comforted her until she fell asleep last night and she just freaked out about it again just now. I will comfort her then we will come downstairs. Go on down and tell your brother she is alright because I think he heard the commotion." "Alright. See you both in a few." Kara walks out and Damon sits on the floor next to Kitty and holds her gently. "Hey, calm down. It's alright. I really do care about you. I have cared about you for a while now. Please don't hate me. Stop crying Beautiful. It will be alright. Jake can't hurt you anymore, and if he comes near you and tried to, I will kill him. Don't worry. Okay?" Kitty stopped crying and hugged Damon lightly then went to clean her face when they heard a scream coming from downstairs. It was Kara. Something scared her and nothing scares her like this. Kitty looked at Damon and then they both ran down the stairs and into the kitchen. Damon was behind Kitty when she got in the doorway and froze. "Jake?"
"Hey there Kitty. I told you I would find you. And I did. Now you can come and join me at last, my darling." Kitty stared at Jake shocked and frozen. Why is he here? Kitty felt Damon hold onto her protectively and leaned back on him. "Kitty doesn't love you anymore Jake. She loves me. Go away and never come back. You are a very untrustworthy vampire. Leave Kitty alone." Damon gets in front of Kitty and pounces at Jake. Jake blocks Damon and they start fighting. "Damon! Jake! Stop fighting! Please! Oh God why do they have to fight over me?" Kitty looks at Kara then at Daniel and runs to Kara. "Daniel help me get her upstairs! She can get hurt with them fighting like this!" Daniel walks over to Kitty and picks up Kara. "I got her. Let's go upstairs. They will stop soon." Kitty runs up the stairs and opens Kara's door. Daniel lays her on the bed and checks her for anything. "Kara is alright, but we need to get them to stop fighting. I don't want to have to but I know of one way I can get them to stop." Daniel goes back to the fight and Kitty runs after him. "Don't hurt yourself because of a couple of vampires are fighting over me Daniel! It's worthless!" "No, it's not Kitty. They are in my territory and I was fine with Damon here because Kara had him over but Jake I don't want here. I have to protect my sister!" "No! Let me end it myself!" Kitty runs past Daniel and right between Jake and Damon. "Stop fighting and listen to me!" They stopped and watched her. "Jake, if you will stay away from here then I will go with you and never hurt my friend again!" "Kitty! No! Don't!" Damon was looking at her shocked. "I have to Damon. I can't let him hurt you or Kara again. It's for the best." Kitty kissed Damon's cheek and hugged Daniel then walked over to Jake and looked down. "Where are we going to?" "We are going to my home. After you left me I found somewhere new where I thought you might be happy. Let's go." Jake picks Kitty up and walks out of the house and heads to his truck and drives to his home as Damon and Daniel watch shockingly. "I'm sorry Damon." Kitty whispers and wipes away tears.
