Sorry if you get confused because I only mentioned one name and stuck with he/she Just ask if you need to clarify anything. Initially I was going to post this on Wattpad, but I have set a release date for the book which is quite a long way from now. So I decided to post this here first. Anyways, enjoy! Prologue Her breathing came slow and ragged. Her mother stood a corner, sobbing, and her father had his hand on her back and the other wrapped around hers, whispering comforting words with tears silently streaming down his pale face. Her boyfriend was not there, for that matter, never there. He did not seem to care about her, think about her, or even love her. Three years ago, he had asked her out, only to find a month later that the ex-love of his life had leukemia. That day, her father had asked him to enter an unused ward, and what he did next shocked the boy more than ever. The old man, who was exactly forty-eight that time, was kneeling down, his shoulders shaking from his crying, begging the boy not to leave his daughter. The eighteen-year-old girl was near the end, but the nineteen-year-old boy didn't care. He didn't love her anymore, and she was disgusting. She had cancer and the chemo was beginning. Her hair became thinner and thinner everyday, but her happiness never faltered when she saw him. He just felt sorry for the stupid family, soon he would be rid of her and was free to do whatever he wanted. She never knew of this, she thought he really did love her. Whenever she said "I will love you even after I die," he would simply force out a smile at the bald, dying girl. She was no longer beautiful in his eyes. Her sparkling whiskey eyes were hollow, her skin was dull and dry, her lips cracked and her bones jutting out because of her thinness. Her mother knew nothing of the sort as well. She accepted the young boy without hesitation and loved him with all her heart, for her daughter's sake. He used to be a very nice boy after all. Suddenly, another unmentioned boy barged through the doors. Hearing the steady beep of her heart from the machine, the heavy burden that lay on him became lighter, but it all felt the same. His blonde hair hung limply infront of his eyes and his blue jacket was muddy but he didn't seem to mind. The usual bright blue orbs that he had for eyes were replaced by a dull, darker colour and he looked pale, but his paleness would never match to the dying girl's. He ran to the side of the bed and tears threatened to spill out. Her heart beat was slower than ever. Finally, the young girl's father noticed his presence. "James?" The heartbeat monitor was the only sound to be heard in the silent room. James sighed and leant all his body weight, running a hand through his hair. He looked up into his eyes, the ones filled with such deep melancholy. The girl's father sighed and walked up to him, reluctantly leaving his wife. "Do you still love her?" He whispered, James nodded without hesitation and the man sighed. "She doesn't know, son. It's too late." The young boy nodded and walked away sadly, knowing this was the last time he would see her. He abruptly stopped and ran back, kissed her forehead and whispered "I love you." in her ear. Then he finally walked away from her forever. A voice came out from behind him just as he stepped out. "I love you too, James."
