My Dirty Little Secret...

  1. I haven't showered since August...

You know, because it's September 1st...

But anyways, I didn't want to make a thread just for one little joke. That's a waste of space. Like those "I WANNA B A MODDDD" threads.

Anyways, I want to address an issue that I find to be a bit "under the radar" for its extremity. This is a sad and serious thread, so if you're in the mood for a laugh or want to troll, I suggest you leave this thread and never come back. Thank you.

So, the issue that needs to be addressed is animal cruelty.

Yeah, yeah, but I wanted to talk about this subject.

I know, you say "Oh, I've heard of that, it's doing a lot better now! It's not a big issue any more!"

The sad thing is, this is still a huge issue.

Why do I care? Why should you care?

Animals have done nothing to us.

By the way, I'm not talking about the animals that provide the necessary meats for our nutrition.

I'm talking mostly about our pets (i.e. dogs, cats, etc).

Let me give you some stories of innocent, loving pets that have been abused: (CAUTION: read at your own risk. Some of these stories may not be for the faint-hearted...)

    • In 1993, two Texas adolescents thought it would be "fun" to beat a horse to death with metal baseball bats. Use baseball bats for baseball, not beating a horse.
    • A dog owner in New York put his Cocker Spaniel puppy in a burning gas oven because it wetted on his floor. Puppies will do that, that's why you potty train them. They don't know any better.
    • In California, a kitten is recovering after a cruel person shot it in the chest with an arrow. Archery is a sport, but don't use a life for a target.

Believe it or not, there are animals that are treated even worse than how they were treated in those stories. If you have a light stomach, I suggest you don't look them up...

    Animal Abuse Statistics
    • Approximately 5 million to 7 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year, and approximately 3 million to 4 million are euthanized (60 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats). Shelter intakes are about evenly divided between those animals relinquished by owners and those picked up by animal control. These are national estimates; the percentage of euthanasia may vary from state to state.
    • Each year, 10,000 bull dogs die in bullfighting.
    • Women in abusive relationships often don't leave their abuser because they worry what will happen to their pet if they leave.
    • 13% of animal abuse involves domestic violence.
    • 70% of animal abusers also have records of other crimes.
    • 3 to 4 million cats and dogs (young, healthy and adoptable) are euthanized every year in shelters.
    • Animals that aren't euthanized are often sent to no-kill shelters where the animals are caged for days, weeks, months or years and the animals risk becoming insane and dying of loneliness.
    • By 2022, 22% of all species will be extinct if no action is taken.

That last statistic worries me. It frightens me because not much action is being taken.

I know there are organizations such as ASPCA and The Humane Society of the United States, and they're doing a fantastic job, but in the end, animal cruelty lies on everyone's shoulders. What you can do. What you didn't do.

But the question right now, to you, a regular person, is what can you do?

    Well, you can:
    • Know who to contact in your area if you suspect animal abuse. You can call your local police department for the information.
    • Teach your kids and/or other children how to treat animals and to respect them as living creatures like ourselves.
    • Support the local shelter or society and get to know the work they are involved in.
    • Take care of the animals you have. If you don't want kittens or puppies, spay or neuter your animals or don't let them around other animals while they are outside.
    • Donate to local shelters, pet abuse organizations or the ASPCA.

But the most important, free, and easy way is to...

    SPREAD AWARENESS.

As I said before, some people are not aware that animal cruelty is still a huge problem.

And it's not just the US that this is a problem in.

Animal cruelty is a global problem, meaning it happens all over the world.

    Thank you for reading

  2. Stop animal cruelty  I love the puppy pic

  3. I couldn't be cruel to my cat! It's so fluffy and cute. How can I be mad
    at this furry little thing?

  4. Im a sponser of our local animal shelter

  5. I volunteer at my local animal shelter by walking dogs there

I also foster puppies that they get there

  6. Aww... The puppy is so cute! 

  7. Get your dogs spade and neutered 

  8. My cat, Tiger, was euthanized... ,_,

  9.  made me sad. Me and a friend had a fundraiser to donate the money to the local animal shelter. But like Oreo said animal abuse is no laughing matter. It's quite serious and can put you In jail for a looong time. Years even, along with about a $500 dollar penalty. I was watching animal
Cops Houston, and this ignorant jackass tied a German Shepard puppy with a rope and connected it to his motor cycle. He cranked it up and DRAGGED the dog by the neck.  now. Is that funny? FUCK NO! People like that not only should have life in prison but might as well deserve death penalty. A life for a life. He would deserve death. Like I've said, animal abuse in no way is a laughing matter. Pit-bull fights. Do you know how many people do those? THOUSANDS. Bully breeds have been banned in some cities. Its not the dog, its the owner. everyday some where there is two pitbulls fighting to the death because of the ignorance of their irresponsible owners. Bully breeds, are euthanized just because people fear them. Immediately they think that the bully breeds will cause fights and act aggressive towards the other animals. You wanna know where animals go after they are put to sleep? They go in a trash bag, and are tossed into a little freezed room. Yep, it's true. How does that make you feel? Everyday, a animal dies and is tortured. Burned, beat, shot, killed, dragged, neglected, starved, and so on. So just remember this. Animal abuse is more serious than people think. It's a horrible thought to think of what people do to animals everyday. They love you way more than you probably love them. They have a life just like us and should be treated equally. I think I've made my point.

  10. I cry when I see an animal die  it crushes me

  11. I know this pit-bull named nature.
She is the sweetest dog I've ever met.
    She's an adult, female pit.
    Not rowdy at all.
    At all.
That's why I know all this "pit-bully's are born aggressive blah blah blah" is bull shit.
    >.>

  12. And the freezer part that I mentioned  it happens in my city. After an animal is put to sleep they are put in a freezer. I'm not sure about the rest of you but I though I should mentioned it 

  13. Awww I agree animal cruelty needs to stop  I love my puppy and my cat; I can't even fathom why ppl do such horrible things to animals who just want love and affection 

  14. There is no animal cruelty involbed in hamburger!

    Never !!!

  15. I understand that animals provide food, I'm very realistic and a lot of us commenting do eat meat. But I'm referring to the abuse that goes on when someone takes a pet into their home and deprive it of food, water, shelter and love. Or the heartless souls who will poison a stray or physically abuse it. That breaks my heart and makes me angry beyond belief, I have zero tolerance for such behaviors. And if I find out that the meat I consume involves in any way shape or form animal cruelty and abuse I will stop buying said brand, period. I joke around a lot but this happens to be an issue I'm very serious and passionate about.

  16. Bump :3 people need to know about this

  17. My dad is mean to our cat.
He makes her live in the basement because she throws up all over the house.
    >.>

  18.  I can never and will never beat my horses. Or any animal. Some animals are smarter then us humans. We have animals who help us, like special need people, and Police, fire fighter people. One day your animal or any animal you plan to get can change your life. Maybe even save your life.

When I had to put my horse down, because she was dying of cancer. She knew what was happening and she looked me in the eyes knowing that she will be in a better place.

All those abused animal commercials make me cry every time. 

  19. [IMG]

    This is my dog He's almost 7.

The closest thing to abuse I've done to him is scolding him when I was trying to get him housebroken.

  20. Awwww he's so sweet!!! 
