I am making this thread dedicated to mathematics. You may discuss math, share math jokes, describe your experience(s) in math, ask questions about math, and so on. I am not making this thread to post my entire math homework I actually have wonderful free tutoring available at my university but you guys are welcome to ask if you need help and anyone can answer your question. IMPORTANT! The plus sign doesn't work on forums. Do not post a plus sign if you are going to type out a problem, instead just make sure to type out the word 'plus.' You can also post a picture of your math problem of that works better. To describe my experience with math, I'm currently in my third semester of calculus. I may switch my degree plan to mathematics but I'm not sure yet. If I do then I'll be taking both calculus 4 and vector calculus next semester and then probably 10 more math classes or so just to get my bachelors Oh and you do not have to like mathematics to post here.
I knoooooowwwwwwwww! Fine. -.- In the parabola equation (y-k)^2 = 4p (x-h), what does the 4p mean and what does it do to a parabola?
Ok I understand. It is the focal distance. It represents the distance of a point on the parabola from its focus. It's kinda stupid
Eh Sheira I dunno. It depends on your strengths. I have had people walk out of my math class crying after some lectures and then some people feel very good about themself when they are in math class. I got an A in my first semester of calculus and currently have an A. I actually got C-'s in the rest of my classes last semester one was sociology which you would think is easy...lol. Math is my strength, I'm just not as good in my other classes.
It just looks like some point directly on the y-axis that is close to the parabola and represents some sort of symmetric focal point. You don't exactly have to understand what it means because it's stupid. There is a weird formula online for calculating it if you need to know how to do that.
