"Ew, look who's having a party." Kate, my best friend since second grade, said. I turned to see Cassandra passing out invitations. "Emily, darling!" She yelled at me, "You must come!" Ugh. Her annoying British accent rang in my ears. She was so perfect, it was disgusting. "Emily?" Cassandra asked, "Em, I'm bringing Mr. Handsome." She turned to kiss Peter, her boyfriend. "If you come, you should bring someone special. And by that, I mean…a boy." I shrugged. "I'll think about it." "You have to go." Kate said. "It's like telling her you're not as good as her if you don't come with someone special." "Then I need a fake boyfriend." I said. And no matter what, I knew that I had to beat Cassandra this time. It was in my blood. or
"Ok, so I found this online dating website, and I thought it would help." I rolled my eyes. "Some of those guys are in different countries, Kate." "Yeah, but some are in the U.S...right?" I shrugged and looked at the website. findmemylove.com. Oh. My. Gosh. The guys really were hot. I scrolled down the "Hot Guy" list. Lives in Canada, Ugh. Bald! Zits. Canada. Canada. Canada... Aha! United States! I looked at his profile. Hot. But then, I looked at his other profile pictures, and realized that was a fake. "This is so complicated." I muttered, exasperated. All of a sudden, I saw a picture near Kate's bed. It showed her and the hottest guy ever. "Hey, Kate, is that your boyfriend?" I asked. "What?" She asked, turning from tje computer, "Ew! No way! That's my cousin, Kyle, idiot." Our faces lit up at the same realization moment. • • • Kyle arrived at Kate's house. "What did you want to see me for?" He groaned. "I have a party to attend. And I need to wash my own laundry for the party next Saturday." "What party?" Kate asked, curiously. "Some chic. It think her name was…Cassandra?" "I need you to fake being my friend, Emily's, date to that party." Kyle thought about it. "Let me see her first." And this was when I stepped out, all glamourous, thanks to Kate. "Wow." He said. I blushed. "This is going to be fake?" Kyle asked. "I won't be seeing you after?" I nodded. "It's all fake." Kyle grinned. "Let's do it."
It was Saturday when I first met Kyle...meaning I had exactly a week to show off my fake boyfriend. "So, Em, you bringing anyone special?" Cassandra asked in such a syrupy tone, I thought I would barf right onto her Jimmy Choos. "Yeah." She seemed taken aback, but calmed down quickly. "Um, who is this person?" "Well, he goes to a different school, so you wouldn't know." I said. "What?! I bet you I know him!" "Kyle White?" Cassandra looked confused, but said, "Oh yeah, he's sooo ugly." I rolled my eyes. Whatever. Just wait until you see my HOT FAKE BOYFRIEND. Cassandra laughed snootily and started a make-out session with her boyfriend right there. Um, excuse me while I GAG. "Hey, babe." I felt an arm sling around my shoulder. I turned around. How'd he get here? "My school goes out early," Kyle whispered, "Go with it." "Hi," I murmured. "So this is your hot boyfriend," Cassandra said seductively. "Considering you called him ugly just a second ago—" Cassandra cut me off. "You're coming to the party?" "Yeah, word got out, and almost everyone at my school is coming..." He said, "So I figured why not come with Emmy?" Kyle picked me up. "Stop it!" I giggled and started pounding on his back. "No, because I'm taking you somewhere." "During school hours?" I asked as he put me down on his motorcycle. "Yep." Kyle strapped the helmet on for me. "Hold on!" He said. I thought he was just saying that, but no. It was a warning. I kept accidentally letting go, and he had to pull over. "Dear God, Emily," Kyle said, "I love you and all, but what does it take for you to just hold on?!" I replied with a sheepish smile. A car drove by and knocked the wind out of me. I held on to Kyle for dear life. He grinned and we drove off again. Where was he taking me?
"I think you're gonna' love this," Kyle said, "Or maybe Kate told me the wrong thing." "What've you got?" I asked. He stopped near a forest. "Time for talking is over." He led me deep into the forest. It was unbelievable. So beautiful. What was the best part? Well... "Here we are." Kyle whispered. A waterfall showered a small pond. Kyle took a basket and set out a picnic. "So, we need to figure out what we're going to say to people in public," Kyle said, "This is our first date. My favorite color is teal. I love spaghetti..." He winked at me. "What?" I asked. "And you." I blushed. "Now, I live in a mansion, have four cars, and am filthy rich due to my parents that are too busy to sit down and have a chat with their son." "Um," I said, "Is that a GOOD thing?" He chuckled. "No, it's not a GOOD thing." I laughed. "Well, my favorite color is forest green, I love pizza..." I winked at him, "And you." Kyle laughed. "And I live in a house, have one car, and love my parents so much..." I paused, then added, "That's a GOOD thing." Kyle laughed and ruffled my hair. We ate. He had brought sandwhiches and all types of yummy foods! How sweet. After we finished, we started talking again. "Hey, it's getting hot, huh?" Kyle asked, and took off his leather jacket. I shrugged. "I guess. Yeah." "Why can't you ever give a solid answer?" He asked, shaking his head. "Well, I—" I started, but he picked me up and jumped in the pond. "Oh my gosh!" I yelled when he picked me up from the water. "What?" He shook his head like a dog, spraying water everywhere. "I can't swim!" "You don't need to," He gave me an amused smile, "I'm holding you." We stayed like that for a while. Him holding me with my hands around his neck. He leaned in. Oh my goodness. He was going to kiss me. I leaned in too, and sparks flew. He finally pulled away, grinning. "I'm an amazing fake kisser, aren't I?" Kyle said, and I felt a pang of disappointment. Wait. It was supposed to be fake. So why did I want it to be something more?
