Kefo's item value guide (Contents and Preamble)

  1. CONTENTS AND PREAMBLE

Before reading this please note that the market is not solid, and prices are not set in stone. They change, are mostly ungauged, and are often distorted by opinion. The true value of an item is not the mean, median, or mode of the opinions of everyone within the marketplace at any one time, rather it is a combination of many factors, mainly its sparsity, stats, and demand over time. Individual opinions do hold weight in informing this through the demand. If your opinion differs to what is stated in this guide, please remember that you’re not everyone. You may voice your opinions on this guide, and I may even edit and re-release this thread at some stage with these opinions in consideration.

The contents list will have hyperlinks to the various threads that comprise this guide, and most of the titles in this guide (for hunts and spinner sets) will be hyperlinks to their introductory threads.

Please use the contents below to navigate this guide because it is very long.

    PREAMBLE

    Purpose of this guide

It seems to me that many players are unaware of the value of showcase items and it’s leading to people being afraid to trade. They either refuse to trade their older items for fear of being ripped off or use stats as the indicator of value and end up getting swindled of their rarer items. This is a shame, and what I hope to fix with this thread. I want more people to be capable traders and to not be so susceptible. As the player base of PIMD has increased, the abundance of items being released has increased too. Once-common items have become rarer and A.T.A have been jacking up the stats of new items, confusing many people. As old items get rarer and the new ones go up in stats, the market struggles to compare their values. Currently; furniture, bentos, and “misc.” (main story rewards/MSR) are the most traded items on PIMD and players become unwilling to trade for anything else due mainly to not knowing what those items are worth. This, my guide to you, offers knowledge of the worth of the items in PIMD to facilitate trade.

    Purpose of items:

    Stats:

The core of the game is PvP (player versus player) and the miscellaneous stats gained from items can assist you in PvP by increasing your combat power, however without practice and knowledge, it doesn’t matter how many stats you have, you will be putting them to waste.
Miscellaneous stats have no influence on your ability to party or complete jobs.

    Aesthetics:

The way an item looks may attract people to buy them, and that leads to a slight appreciation of animal-themed items, and “cute” items. While often insignificant with showcase items, the aesthetic quality of furniture tends to heavily influence value.

Another aspect of aesthetics is the completeness of showcases. A habit which irritates me but seems to be very common is people attempting to collect one of everything, Having a complete or at least well-rounded showcase is impressive to many players, and collecting items from years ago can be very rewarding, especially as they get harder to find.

A further aspect of the aesthetic value of an item, which mainly relates to collectors, is the rarity of a particular item. If you’re like me, and read the showcase of everyone you come across, seeing a rare item that you just don’t see very often makes a showcase stand out.
It is also incredibly pleasing when you get such a rare item from someone else. If it’s really hard to find in your search, it’s like catching a really rare pokemon.

About the current state of the market

I’d like to address a significant occurrence in the market which has been going on for over a year; The inflation of bentos.
I attribute this to misinterpretation of an apparent change in the value of bentos. An increase in their value AGAINST main story rewards (mcs items) and furniture. When A.T.A released stories, their rewards all had massive stats: much more than what could have been earnt before.
The jump in stats was disorienting, It was a massive amount of power creep in a really short amount of time, and people began selling their bentos for double their stats (bento for 1mcs) in main story rewards because it looked like a bargain, but as the hunt rewards continued to be released into the market, hunt after hunt, it became clear just how plentiful these main story rewards were, and people began asking for more stats per bento. Suddenly bentos could buy someone more CS than ever, and it looked to some as though the bentos were increasing in value. But it wasn’t an increase in the value of bentos and was rather a decrease in the value of MSRs.  The current market value being about 2-2.5mcs worth of MSRs per bento. Markets are dictated by faith and myths, and this myth inflated bentos. For a long time after that the value of MSR had seemed to come to a final agreement with bentos, and they plateaued.
Recently the value of MSR’s increased, and the value of 2mcs singles seem to generally be increasing to be worth more than a bento, as I predicted back when they were first being released.
This IS a change in the value of bentos; a return to their baseline.

    Language

There are some language conventions that have sprung up recently which are somewhat irritating to most older players because their only cause is ignorance. I’d like to address some of these briefly.

    MCS or MC’s:
Some people refer to 1mcs as 1mc because they assume that the S in mcs indicates plurality, however the S is a part of the acronym.
mcs stands for million combined stats. Similarly,
kcs stands for kilo combined stats,
bcs stands for billion combined stats,
and cs stands for combined stats.

So please don’t drop the S in mcs, because otherwise you’re saying “million combined”, and that's just plain old silly.

    O or B:
Recently people have been shortening the names “chibi” and “bento” and using one letter to indicate a unit of value instead of asking for them specifically. This makes sense as they’re a common unit of value, and it’s important to differentiate between asking for value as opposed to asking specifically for item.
C is pretty much universally accepted as the abbreviation for Chibi, but on the other hand bentos have eluded being abbreviated consistently. There are 2 contenders; b and o however there is a fundamental problem with one of those which many new traders seem unaware of.
    B already stands for billions.

Please use O. It is the most prominent sound in the word bento, and it also works well with chibis.
When you use the toilet and have to flush, the C is for half flush, and O is for full flush so it logically follows that C is for chibis, and O is for bentos.

    Main Story Rewards: (MSR)

People struggle to define what they mean when asking for these items. They give them different names but none really accurately describe them.
An item with 2cs is a stat item as it has stats. And only a very small minority of items aren’t stat items. These are also sometimes referred to as mcs items, however there are items above 1mcs that are certainly not “mcs items”.
The rates commonly given to “mcs items” reflect the plethora of some of the cheapest items on PIMD. Items that are easily earnt, and in such a high supply that they can be bought cheaply, so that you get a lot of stats for a very small cost.
These items are the rewards earnt from the stories of the main story in a hunt. (There are even small differences between the values of these items depending on the format of the hunt they’re from)
The very cheapest main story reward items on PIMD are from the 2017 Black Friday event. Cheaper yet, though, are the items earnt from clothes sets in the roobix hunt, and Sandy the Snorkelling Turtle.

Even "story rewards" may be worth more than the “mcs” rate. Side story items are well known to be worth more than MSRs, and there's even more variation between side story items because of their formats.

    About the listed values

The values I list in this guide are not the current values, what I believe their true values to be, what I believe you should sell them for, or what I believe you should buy them for.
They’re somewhere in between where they currently are, and what they will likely be worth in the future. It’s a medium that I hope will be as accurate as possible for as long as possible. If you find the values inoperable, please ask around for the current values.

Alternatively, if you want to find out what something is worth for yourself, the best method is to find someone's selling price, and find someone else's buying price, and find the middle. Don't merely ask them what they'd buy/sell for. Make sure they're actually willing to trade.
