My face streaked with tears in the ruin of my home I scream at the sky, “ Why? What did I do?” My voice is lost in claps of thunder. The sky is split open by a thin yellow crack. It lights up my destroyed home for a second. Long enough to see the single grey feather in the middle of what used to be my room. I fall to my knees, glass and metal digging through my dirty skin. Carefully I pick up the grey feather. The feather of a white hawk, the animal on my family crest. A laugh chokes in my throat. They aren't all dead. One left me a message signaling that they are safe. I run my fingers over the tip I can feel a slight indentation. I use the very tip of my pinky to feel what it is. A zagged "M" covers it. I sigh, at least Mia is safe and that's all that matters. And that was the day they took my best friend and my family. (POV of Jay)
