I’m frustrated at you because you clicked on this which means you’re probably good at drawing. Well I’m not. I use to be (if tracing counts). I can’t create my own art style. I’m getting upset because I can’t draw Katara waterbending. Heck, I use to be able to follow along on those Disney/Nickelodeon tutorials of Spongebob, Timmy Turner, and Perry the Platypus. how do you get so good at drawing people? why do I have to draw in pencil first, then go over with a micron pen, and finally be able to colour it in?? how the heck do you draw eyes? why are my drawings so ugly? I tried going the simple route and not caring about eyes, but using dots for eyes makes it too similar to Adventure Time style!! I tried drawing multiple style of anime eyes but they’re too complex or I don’t do it like the picture. I’m mad so leave your advice on drawing. tl;dr - give me your art style because I can’t make my own for my life.
eyes are so hard to do, best advice stay away from people drawings(unless you amazing asf at it)draw animated characters, or little landscapes; they always turn out good. well for me they do, but give it a try; plus graphite is the best to use in my opinion
Practice practice practice. I'm a terrible artist tbh but if I work on a drawing long enough I can make anything look nice and so can anyone else. It takes me hours to make a nice looking person tho and i'll usually give up at some point because i'm bored or smthing which is probs what you do? If you don't give up and just keept fixing your errors and stuff it'll eventually look like it's supposed to. Use pose references and look up tutorials for detailed things you wanna draw.
I’m not that good at drawing tbh. I have to look at a picture in order to draw it. Can’t draw it from my imagination. So I’d say do what I do and look at a picture to draw it
I’ve been going at this for 3 hours and I still can’t draw Katara. I keep fixing and trying to plan out how she stands but it’s not working with the water flow
Do you have someone with you wherever you are to look at it from a different perspective? That's essentially all art teachers do in my experience but it can help a lot. When you're looking at something too long it gets hard to see the flaws so someone else can point out whatever looks awkward or strange
Honestly drawings of people are my favorite but I CANNOT draw a damn anatomically proportionate face for the life of me! I understand how frustrating it can be but practice is KEY! Sketching with a pencil is more flexible and forgiving when it comes to mistakes and alterations and inking the final product makes everything look cleaner and gives an illusion of effortlessness (That is if you’re going for an illustration-type of style) Again, practice makes perfect (or at least improvement) don’t be afraid of using reference pics. Not everyone is born a prodigy that can draw from their mind. I hate looking at my art too (sometimes) I think it’s something every artist struggles with but trust me, it’s not as bad as you may think it is. In regards to finding your style, just go with the flow and stick to what you like and that will flourish into your style. Keep in mind that you don’t have to be completely unique and abstract to “create” your style. Many artists have similar styles, just make it you and it will
Ugh, drawing. Worst and best pal. I'm with you in wanting to strangle a physical form of the word (aka the nearest person). But uhm my advice is definitely the whole patience thing. ALWAYS warm up and practice (rough outlines or ideas) before taking on what you want to do. I struggled with doing that because I only wanted to draw when I wanted to do some complicated piece.... They were never started/finished. Lol. I find what works best for me is trying to replicate something simple. Like my favorite anime character, Ulquiorra. He's simple yet fun for me to draw. It wasn't until this year-- after about a year passed-- that I FINALLY got a hold of the friggin style inside mai soul and I drew him in a similar pose to an original photo but with my touch of style to it. (This is long asf em sorry) As for getting a second eye... Don't think too hard about it. It's okay to erase 50+ times (same goes with everything else) but you'll get it. You'll find a technique that works for you. Okay one more thing. I 100% encourage tracing. It helped me get a feel for when I'm doing face shapes and placements. I suck ass at bodies still but issa process. A long and painful process but usually worth it. Also, you dun gotta ink. Do what's confortable for you. Ok I bless thy with strength for ze future. You'll get that daggon picture perfect on your own, I blelieve.
Tbh... tracing is how I learned to draw. AND how I learned my style! The way I got better at drawing people was I went on YouTube and watched other people draw. Then I’d copy them step by step multiple times. I’d draw the same thing over and over until I could draw the image without referencing the video. I’d watch multiple people draw the same thing and do this for weeks. Then I’d wait a couple days, go back to the image but draw only from the sketches I had already done. I took bits and pieces of each drawing because after every drawing I had done something different to it. And created my own unique style️ practice makes perfect! The best advice was to draw something EVERY day. Even if I didn’t even feel like drawing.
I‘m in the same boat in the sense that I find it hard to have my own unique style - as was mentioned, I think every artist struggles with this. I’ve read tons of art blogs and watched dozens of artists on YT, and they all have the same advice about finding an art style... try to start by looking for artists with styles that you like, and start by studying and copying how they draw, then try to integrate different styles together in a single piece, what part of the style you like so much, which styles could go together, etc... eventually you’ll find out what works for you and how exactly you want your personal style to be. I don’t usually ink over my drawings since I like doing full graphite pieces, but when I do (especially during inktober), I guess putting down some pencil lines to follow helps in making a cleaner final product. As for the eyes, I used to suck so badly at eyes but now they’re one of the things that I enjoy drawing... I think this goes for anything, but practice practice practice, and if you’re getting frustrated don’t be afraid to put down that pencil and come back to it after a breather! Listen to a couple of songs or go have a snack, or play pimd ) Sorry for the long post, and have fun drawing!
That how I am with drawing, I set my mind to something and I just attempt to draw it without warming up. I will try that next time! I also was trying to draw Finn the Human (really, really easy drawing) but also fell short of getting it how I wanted. I don’t know if it’s just me at this point or if I really lost my artist nature.
I will try this. I get busy from now & then, but I will definitely give it a shot if you think it’ll help me develops my own style!!
