I had an idea today.

  1. I had an idea today. I like the way stories tell... Well, a story. But I also like how roleplaying tells a story with many people participating. So what if you all posted ideas for characters, factions, and plot events, or anything you think would improve a story, and I took all of your idea floating around on the page and pressed them together into a dense little ball of narrative? I know that this has probably been done before.
I want to write a story that takes place in the Winter universe, which happens to be the same universe that my failed RP, Winter, takes place in. You can also obviously give opinions on what you like or don't like about the setting. Here's the basic idea:

It is the year 2032 and the world has been embroiled in mechanized warfare for ten long years. Most of the planet is ash and rubble, what's left of humanity fighting over the most trivial of disagreements in hardsuits, smart tanks, and mecha.

However, one pacific island stays isolated from the violence of the world. A utopian city, Oasis, lies at its center. All the energy in the city comes from solar and wind power. Children play in its clean, plant-filled parks. It is a self-sustaining island nation. A bulletproof glass dome seals the island off from the rest of the world, and helicopters are used to transport citizens off and onto the island through a system of airlocks to keep out the polluted air of the world. Insect-like androids of different sizes and shapes act as the city's guards, police force, and workers, as well as hundreds of other jobs.

Mutants, their DNA damaged by the irradiated outside atmosphere, travel to this nation in search of a new life. They find themselves accepted and sometimes even admired by the youth of Oasis, which possesses a strange obsession with radical body modification, some going so far as surgically implanting functioning wings, lizard skin, or mechanical enhancements.

I have a few more ideas relating to this that I'll probably include, such as the Independents, a group of Oasis citizens who rebelled against the city because it does nothing to actively help those in the wasteland, and actively fight against the Oasis military police.

  2. So it's a character sheet? Õ.o

  3. Don't do stuff like this akiko everytime someone does this sort of thing everyone just gets mad

  4. Why's that, Destroyer? I can't really think of any situations in which doing this could make people angry...

  5. I tried it before myself and I got nothing but people raging at me

  6. It's a story, or a rp?

  7. It's a story, but you'll all be helping me write it.

  8. Des, let's hope that doesn't happen to me, eh?

  9. What are we like meant to do? Sorry, just sorta don't get it~

  10. Read the setting description and tell me what you think you might put in it if you were writing a story that took place in the canon of Winter, basically.

  11. I did something similar to this a while ago. It was called The Mass Collaboration. I started the story off with an update, and people would ask to post the next update, and do so. But eventually it died, as nobody wanted to do the next update.

I think you have to be a little clearer about how this shall work. Are we posting ideas? Characters? Full plot lines based on this setting that you would write out for us?

  12. I wouldn't suggest full plot lines, rather short snippets of plot, events.

  13. Any idea you have that pertains to the story.
Jeez, I didn't think I was being so vague and hard to understand...

  14. Such as one-shots?

This sounds good, but perhaps you could give us some characters to work with. Appearance isn't really necessary, just a brief personality and a name.

  15. Specification is key :p

  16. I'd be happy to come up with a few, but I'd prefer if you guys supplied the characters.

  17. Okay. I was thinking it would be easier to create stories from a set group of characters, that way they could all be linked.

  18. The problem is that I'm not bad at setting and lore, but I'm hopeless when it comes to characters... I mean, look at Impact. The characters have zero depth.

  19. I know someone who could help. Ali is AMAZING at character development. But I might have to be a substitute if she is too busy to consent.
