Prologue I walked in the streets with my mother, walking hand in hand. I was the little girl with her curling, blond hair in a ponytail and wearing a little strawberry design covered dress. My mother was a dirty blond haired woman, in her jeans and a tee shirt. We were walking to the park somewhere around 6:00 P.M. It's a cool night, and my mom was constantly shivering. She kept looking around when I was showing her I was a big girl, and I could use the swings myself. I sang since she wasn't paying any attention to me and I noticed she was worried. "Mommy?" My little voice chirped from the body of a 6 year old. She fell to the ground, face down. The man ran away. I jumped off the swing, running towards my mother. "Mommy!" I screamed, crying. I stated at the bullets in my mothers back. I screamed. "Help! Anyone?!" I cried into the darkness of cars driving by. A pedestrian, a woman in her 30's saw me. "Oh My!" she gasped, picking me up and pulling out her phone, calling 911. But my mother was already dead. -------------------------------------- Down at the police station, I am held in the woman's arms. I have a big stain of blood on my dress. "Mrs. DiNozzo, we can't let you have the girl." A man in a uniform pipped up. "Why not, Jeff?" she asked. "Because she has a father," he said. "don't you, little girl?" I shook my head sadly. Mommy said daddy went somewhere and was never going to come back. "Mrs. DiNozzo," he started. "you can keep the child. But I will have Luke come and knock on your door to see how she's doing, got it Barbra?" "I promise she will be taken care of." The lady said, kissing my head. I felt safe in her arms, like she was my mother. But my own mother was in the morgue.
a bit of comedy, romance, and tragic crap will be in the story. ._. --------- I shuffled around my office, my name badge lost again. "Hey DiNozzo," Melanie pipped up, popping up in front of my door. "Hey Lee. Have you seen my badge?" I asked her, fixing the giant stack of papers on my desk. I am now 28 year old Katie Marie DiNozzo. My hair is in pigtails with my long, frilly, blond hair. My clothes are uncomfortable, but I guess they're ok. This wasn't an option for me, but I didn't want to be a hero either. "Uh, I thought you left it in Killian's office." "Why would it be in there?" I asked, almost heading out the door to go to his office. "I dunno." she lied through her teeth. "Oh and Lee," I smirked. "Try harder when you lie." I walked down the halls, my hair bouncing about. My blue eyes searched the whole area in his office before he got back. "Katie?" Like I said, before. "Erm, Killian." I said, turning around. He closed the door, leaning against it. "Don't call me Katie." I hissed. "Don't call me Killian, DiNozzo." "Better." I smirked. I was almost a rank higher than him. "Now say what I want to hear." he grinned. "Kade," I groaned. "Don't push my buttons." "But I like pushing your buttons, Katie." he laughed, poking my belly. "Ow." I faked, poking his arm. He grinned, his brown hair in his face. I pushed some of it aside so it wasn't in his eyes. He put his arms around me, untying my hair from their pigtails that I had smoothed. The woman that had taken care of me when I was younger is now 50. And she's my mother. I prefer to call her my mother. My long blond hair fell down to my back, and he shut the shades in his office. I caught a grin from Melanie, knowing his is her fault. "Kade, I have to do a case and I need my badge—" He pressed his lips against mine, softly. He pulled back gently, petting my hair down. "Your badge is over there." he said, pointing to the desk with the computer on it. The color of the paint shinned on it in the lime light. I turned around, grabbing it off the desk and ran into his arms. "DiNozzo," he said into my hair. "We have to talk later. "Gah, Kade—" I began, but got cut off again by his lips. "I'll see you later." he said, smiling and letting me out. I caught a pinch of my pale lipstick on his face. I walked by Melanie and I slapped her arm. "Ow!" "Lee, that was not cool!" I growled. She giggled, despite the sound that the slap made against her small, frail arm. "Admit it, you like Killian." she snickered. "I do not!" "So if I ask him out—" "OVER MY DEAD BODY." I growled, grabbing her by her shirt collar. She grinned, and her eyes wandered to the figure behind her and she grinned. I glanced up at Doctor Donald Ray. He was working in the morgue most often. "Hello, DiNozzo and Lee." "Doctor Ray," I said, dropping Melanie's collar and somewhat fail saluting. Melanie stood up straight, saluting like a duck. I mumbled to her,"You look like an idiot." "And so do you when you decline your undying love for Mr. Killian over there in his office."
Donald raised a brow. "I can hear you both, and undying love?" Melanie grinned at me and began to run her mouth. "Yup, Katie JUST LOOOOVES KILLIAN." she said loudly. I covered her mouth as soon as I saw Kade look out the window. My eyes wandered to Donald. "Look, and this pain-in-the-ass help anywhere other than with my cases?" I asked. "She can help in the morgue." "NUUUUU-" said Melanie, clinging to my leg. "Then shut up and come on." I said, rolling my eyes. I dragged her along the floor while detective Bailey laughed at me while I shuffled off. ----------- Short update because I want to know if you want to see pictures of the characters. :3
Melanie was kind of quiet when we got back to the office. I had thrown a bunch of papers into recycle leaving me three cases. Those were cases I had to sign off, copy, and give to Melanie to put in our cabinet. She had a big stack of papers to put away, and I signed off another case of homicide. "Ah, work." I sighed, reading the next paper. Melanie rolled her eyes, brushing her red hair back. Her black sleeves covered her arms. "Hey Melanie," I spoke up, reading. "Why do you always wear black, even if it's summer?" I asked. It's only fall. "Because I have a couple of fears, Katie." "What kind of fears?" I asked, signing the sheet and putting it on the copying machine. "I'm afraid of skin cancer and melanoma." she said sternly, putting a paper in the S file. "I'm afraid of cats." I said, sighing asI tossed another paper into the bin. That's only one of maybe 48 fears on a list. "That's weird..." Melanie said, closing the file box and sitting down with a deep sigh. I stood up, walking out the door. "Where are you going, Kat?" "To see someone." I said, bouncing to Kade's office.
