When i get my own house im gonna have a doggo and a few chooks. What do you think i should get 1st? Cant get both at the same time coz thats to expensive to get both set up at once. Have to do 1 then the other after a few months or whatever. I want both but dont know what to go with 1st
I'd go with the dog first. Pupper can keep you company, and can learn it's surroundings while you wait to buy the chicken nuggets.
I say dog first, but I'm quite partial to dogs. Make sure the dog's temperment is right for chickens too -- don't want to get a dog that has a high prey drive and might kill them.
What kind of wildlife do you have in your area? Raccoons, foxes, birds of prey, and coyotes are all a serious danger to backyard chickens, and from what I’ve seen, raccoons are the most dangerous because of how dexterous they are. Getting the dog first to guard them might be a good idea if those sorts of wildlife live nearby.
