Happiness

  1. There's no such thing as perfect happiness. There never has been, and there never will be - it's as simple as that. We humans, we have a tendency to never be satisfied, never satiated, never entirely content - and without being content, we cannot be happy; this stands to reason.

We always find things that don't entirely match our expectations, and they keep us from our happiness.

If your work is going great and your boss seems satisfied, you have a problem with being so tired after working.

If your children are all grown up and living their lives on their own like you raised them to do, you feel abandoned.

If you wake up feeling rested and calm, you are immediately burdened by what you must get done that day, and letting it demotivate you.

If you've been really disciplined and gone to the gym to lose the weight you always wanted to, you look in the closet and moan that none of your clothes fit anymore.

    Let's try turning this around:

If you are standing in the dark, does it matter whether it's the sun or a flashlight that lightens your path?

If you are starving, does it matter whether the meal is home cooked or out of a can?

If you have enough money to cover your expenses, does it matter that your neighbor makes more money than you?

Now one thing is ambition. Ambition, drive, they are good things to have, giving yourself something to strive for and measure your own success according to yourself against. Being discontent and unsatisfied is quite a different story - all it does is let you highlight what you don't like about your life, disregarding if it is something that you can fix maybe already today or tomorrow.

It's all how we perceive our own situation - and as a wise man once said:

"The key to happiness is making your joys simple."

So make a choice to be happy, and disregard the details that may not be identical to what you pictured all those years ago - accept your reality and substitute the image in your head with it.

  8. Thanks for posting this :)
I really feel you can make your own happiness by staying positive and try to keep a positive outlook throughout life. Also to not dwell on past circumstances as you never know what could come around the corner and brighten it all up. :)

  15. The definition of happiness is different for everyone. To one person it may be hanging out with his family, while to another it might be skateboarding all night long, but as long as we live we will have happy times and unhappy times, so might as well enjoy those happy times. If someone thinks they are happy, then they must be happy, eh? And don't just dream about a beautiful happy ending, LIVE EXQUISITE TIL THE BITTER END, HASHTAG YOLO SWAG OVERLOAD

  16. Actually, living a life of happiness or eudaemonia can be met with having the virtues of intelligence and morality.

Intelligence which comes from studying and teaching, and morality which comes from practicing good habits that we inherit from mimesis.

This state of mind that is not achieved in short term life span. It refers to your entire life. "The good of man is the active exercise with his souls, and faculty."

    Lady Fortuna: Lady Luck.
Good fortune is required for happiness. We may or may not get that.
Many events happen by chance, differing in importance, do not weigh down the scale of life one way or another.
Multitude of great events will make life happier.
Accidental loss of a loved one.. Even in these events, nobility can shine through. Greatness of soul can sometimes overcome extreme sorrow.
