Prologue••• I remember sitting there, my arms wrapped around my legs with my knees pressed to my chest. I remember Jake's big green eyes looking at me from across the crowd. I remember everything about that day. "Jesse...you have to eat something," Mom had said at the reception after the funeral. I looked up at her, tears welling up in my big blue eyes. "If you were in my place, you'd stop eating too," I mumbled under my breath. After everyone was gone, I had ran up to the treehouse down in the field. I rummaged through boxes and jars until I found what I'd been looking for. It was a little clear mason jar with a pair of dog tags inside. I pull the tags out and push the necklace onto my neck. "Ben, I will never forget you," I had told myself that day. And then the sirens rang in the distance.
