My name is Julie and this is a story of how my life went from normal to abnormal in a few days: I woke up late and rushed through my morning routine. I brushed my long black hair and put it in a ponytail before rushing out the door to school. I rushed into Math and sat beside my friend Ellie. "What happened to you?" she asked trying not to laugh "My alarm clock sucks..." I mutter as Mr. Victor ,our math teacher, walked in. Mr. V was weird. He had long slightly grey hair and huge classes, he always wore a colorful vest over a grey sweater. or
Mr. V walked up to the board and wrote: Text book page 109-114 and then he sat down. Once a week Mr. V would teach us but the rest of the time we used textbooks. Ellie and me were the smartest in our school so we always finished first. An hour later the bell rang and we walked out of class. "Hey ladies, I'm having trouble with math so how bout you come and help me?" a guy asked and laughed while I rolled my eyes and Ellie glared "Why couldn't u just punch them?" Ellie asked me and I laughed "Cuz I try to control my anger!" I say. We walked into our Science class and sit down. Our teacher Mrs. Etoile walled over to us and handed me an envelope. I read it over 7 times before handing it to Ellie. I couldn't believe what it said: Dear, Julie and Ellie, You have been chosen to participate at this years annual Brainathon. It will take place at 348 Song Rd at 5:30pm on April 5th. We would appreciate your participation. Thank you
We jog to Song Rd. "I thinks that's the building...." I say and point to a large grey building with a huge window "how do you know?" asked Ellie "it's the only building on the street..." I say and push the huge wood doors open to see hundreds of people around my age. The speaker suddenly turned on and said" Now that all students are here please enter the testing room and go to your assigned seat...."
I dragged Ellie to our seat. It was next to 2 girls from the high school on the other side of town. "Hi! I'm Julie and this is Ellie!" I almost yelled. The girl with the long very dark red hair smiled and laughed "I'm Alyssa and this is Sara!" said Alyssa pointing to the tall girl next to her. Ellie and Sara could have been twins. Both were tall with long light brown hair that wAs a little wavy. They both had turquoise eyes. We talked a little more and found out that Alyssa knew everything about weapons and explosives and she was amazing with science and Sara had a perfect memory and could play piano with her eyes closed.
A man stepped out onto the stage "I am James Parks and I am the organizer of the Brainathon. The tests in the Brainathon test both your physical and mental states. This is the last chance for you to leave." said James "If no one wishes to leave then start the test," he said as screens pop up in front of everyone "On the count of 3 touch your hand to the screen to begin the test.1,2..3!" he yells and we touch the screens. As I touched the screen I felt a painful shock and everything went white then black...
I woke up in a strange place. It was a field with long grass and flowers everywhere. To the south there was a forest and to the north and the west there was a huge cliff and the east was an ocean. "What is going on here?" I mutter and notice a white paper attached to the cliff. It said : Dear participant, Welcome to the Brainathon trial. Your job is to simply make it to the center of the maze without dying. There are many dangers and we encourage teamwork. Thank you
