After many months i have decided that i am 100% going for a rescue/pound dog. So thats 1 big decision made. The next massive decision is something i need help on how to figure out. [ Picture of pupper for attention ] I know i dont want a older dog. But i dont know if i want a younger dog or a puppy. On 1 hand a dog would be good coz already know their personality and theres much less training wise to worry about. But then you have to rely on previous owners that they have trained the dog proply around people kids and other animals. On the other hand a puppy would give me the opportunity to make sure they are trained proply being well socialized around people of all ages as well as many different animals. But then theres alot of extra work involved with all that training and potty training. Obedience training. Teaching them to not destroy everything in sight. I dont know how to decide between the 2 options. Im classing puppy as 8 weeks - 6 months. Younger dog as 7 months - 5yrs. I dont think i want to go much more then 5yrs. This will be my 1st dog so want to make sure im doing things right. My dad will be around who has had dogs before but the dog will be my responsibility and mainly me with them
Ive got about 5 or so years to slowly work thru everything so dont go thinking im not gonna be prepared when i do eventuly get them. Im not 1 of them dumbasses that gets a pet not knowing anything about how to look after them
Not gonna lie tho. If i was ready for a doggo now then i would 100% leave 1st thing in the morning to go pick up that pupper tomorrow and bring him home
Whoever end up getting they will get majority of the say. The animal picks the person. Its how it will always be. I will probly get about 15% say in it My dad will probly get about 5% say in it The doggo/pupper will get 80% say in it As a guestimate i guess
Are you gonna be home 90% of the day? That's the only way you'll be able to handle a puppy. Also take a good look into what the breed you pick was bread to do. It'll give you a good idea of what they're gonna require from you and their temperament. You can have my Jack Russell if you want 😂
Im working out if doggos are likely to be allowed on site so that will play a part in it to. I wont be home that often coz my work hours would be something like 6.30am out of the house then home around 5.30-6pm. But my dad would be home alot as he will be retired. Maybe working part time at the most but hes not planning on doing anything more then a couple hrs a day. But nahh jack russells are to little for what im wanting
I wrote an entire essay on why you should get an adult dog instead of a puppy and I erased it all. Puppies may be cute and all, but I think the adult dogs deserve a chance. Puppies tend to be adopted out significantly faster, and some adult dogs stay at the shelter for months and even years, for no fault of their own besides that they’re not young. And when a dog stays at a shelter long enough, they end up knowing all the essential commands, and walk real nice on leash. However, some people may see that as a downside coz they want a fresh clean slate of a puppy to customize and make their own. (This was my mentality as a kid, “why would I want a dog that’s already been raised by other ppl, eww” And not many people accept the fact that almost all puppies need to undergo professional training, unless the owner is already super qualified and experienced. Regardless, I’m sure you’ll do a good job & give a pup/doggo a good life. You seem to understand the ethical entailments of bringing in a sentient being to raise as yours. wow I erased one essay just to replace it with….a slightly shorter one x)
Yehh i can understand that. I think it most likely will be a dog i get over a pup coz of it being my 1st one. Will see whats around at the time. Im not gonna bring anyone home that doesnt also pick me and my dad. They gotta wanna come to. Thats how my dad got his last dog. The dog came and sat beside him and wouldnt leave. The doggo picked him
