Once again it is upon us. Lunar New Year! Or commonly called around the world as Chinese New Year. February 10th marks the year of the Snake . This special day marks the end of winter and the beginning of a new harvest season. Face it, you would be happy to see food coming in. The Lunar Festivals are in fact one of the most important days of the calendar year and in some places of Asia the celebrations can be a week long ordeal. Traditionally the conclusion of the celebration is marked by the Lantern Festival on the 15th day. Traditional customs are similar throughout the Asian world. Special traditional cook food is made in preparation for the special day, new clothes are worn, visiting relatives and most importantly being happy for everything that we have. For the young children it is traditional custom to give them Red Envelopes. Inside will contain some money. The colour red symbolises good luck and prosperity and the money, well everyone likes money. As a proud Vietnamese I would like to wish each and everyone of you PIMD folks a very prosperous, safe, wonderful Chinese New Year with your family, friends and colleagues. If you are not Asian don't worry. Celebrate it with us. On Febuary 10th if you meet a Vietnamese say Chúc Mừng Năm Mới. And if you meet Chinese say Kung Hei Fat Choy. Chúc Mừng Năm Mới Everyone. 恭喜發財! Damn. I remember when my dad used to bring me around to his business associates' houses and I'd get a fuck ton of money in all those red pockets. Guess I'm not going this year. For me, it's a celebration where I get to appreciate my family even more than I do, because... Well, I guess it's a holiday marking the start of a new year, and as each year progresses I guess you get the feeling that you should cherish the people you love even more. This year's special though. XD It's the time when my entire family comes to visit. ... All... Huh. I guess all five of them! Yayyyyyyyyy small families. WOOOOOOOOT.
Oh! And the qi paos! It's become one of my favorite outfits to wear. XD I always wear one when Chinese New Year comes. My mom also takes me to set off fireworks and we'd get to do a bunch of things together. And the food… 東北菜! My nanna's cooking is the 8est!
I love how everyone just forgets about everything and be happy. I live in an Asian and European area. It's amazing how everyone regardless of race is so happy together. Makes me happy as well. To all you Chinese up there. Hong bao na lei! Chuc mung nam moi!
Yes! And the cakes, all the festivities. It's lovely looking at our culture and realizing what a huge impact traditions and holidays have on everything! I've never been more proud to be Asian. XD
And also it's fantastic to see non-Asians embracing the culture. I see European people eating Sushi. African people wearing traditional Asian dresses. So cool.
Man. I'm Vietnamese. This is not fair. I'm not good with my pinyin. I should have learnt it.
I ran out of subject allocations. Biology or Chinese. Lmao. I thought. Chinese would be dedication. Cbf.
