I sat in the booth with my best guy friend, Tommy, and sipped my soda. I smelled the syrup filled scent and looked across the table at my two friends Gabby and Bella. "Bella, sometimes I don't understand why you choose that look." I said with a mysterious grin. She rolled her eyes, then looked at me," You see goth, darkness, I see spunk, attitude, freedom. I never want to fit in with the flow, and you know that." I tucked my fiery red curls behind my ear and leaned into Tommy. "I am so exausted! Ugh, I had my final in math today. I'm almost positive I flunked." I said with a smile. Gabby Let out a groan. "I had English. How stupid." I allowed a yawn to escape my mouth and checked my watch. "Oh sh¡t guys! Sixth Period is almost over!" I threw some cash on the table and pushed Tommy out of the booth. "Lets Go!" I shouted as we piled into the small car. I started the engine and stomped in the gas pedal. That was my first mistake. I never saw the truck coming straight for us. Lights. Sirens. Screaming. It took me a while to realize the screaming was coming from me. I turned around a best as I could to see Tommy's arm hanging out of the broken window, and Bella looking around, blurry-eyed. I turned my attention to Gabby, who I then realized, wasn't breathing. Around that time, I blacked out.
I awoke in the hospital, my mother crying beside my bedside. Tommy in a cast, and Bella with cuts and scrapes stood in the corner. "Wha...but...,"I stuttered. It was the. That I realized something was missing. "Gabby?! Where is she? Is she o....." I stopped as Bella burst into tears. I hung my head and felt the pain killer start to kick in. I was asleep soon after. I walked down the school hallway less than a week later for the first time since te accident. I went through class by class, not really listening, but snapped out of my gloom at the end of school. I was stopped in the hall by Charlie, the star quarterback. He ruffled his hair then looked at me. "Hi, Jess, um, I heard what happened, I'm so sorry. I don't want you to think this is too sudden, but, um, would you want to go to the movies with me tonight? I mean..um, yah...." I gave a shocked face, then quickly calmed. "Well, sure." "Ok then. Pick you up at eight." With that he walked off, bacpack on shoulder. I turned around to face the school doors. I noticed Adelyn glaring at me, bit I shuddered And headed on to my car.
I rushed to try and fix my mop of re curls, but it was no use. The doorbell rang as soon as I has somewhat gotten in under control. I ran downstairs and swung it open. There was Charlie, hand in pockets, smiling sheepishly, and handed me a rose. "Ready to go?" He asked. "Yah! Bye mom!" I yelled, grabbing my purse. I walked to his car and got in. The movie went by smoothly. When we arrived at my home, he glanced at me. "Did you like it?" I turned down the radio. "Yah! It was pretty, um, interesting." We sat in silence, then he leaned into kiss me. I put my hand in front of his face, grabbed my purse, and left him sitting in the car, bewildered.
The next day at school, I passed by Charlie. He snuck a look at me then looked away, shoulders hunched. I sighed and kept walking. I went through the day in a blur and drove home. When I got there, Tommy was sitting there. "We need to talk," he said. I gave a questioning look. "You can't go out with Charlie!" I choked out," Why.. Why not!?" He looked away, then turned and steed me straight in the eye. "Because I love you. It's always been this way. This happened with Gabby," he pointed to his cast," you, me, Bella, we were all changed that day. It... It made me realize I could lose you in a matter of seconds. I'm not gonna...not gonna let that happen, Jess!" He grabbed me by my waist and we kissed. Soft at first, then more passionately. We pulled away, then, since my mom woudlnt be back for 3 more days, I led him into my house. We ended up in my room, wrapped on each other arms, lying on my over-sized. We sat there staring at each other, grinning, kissing, but that's it. We both seemed content, not needing more. I mustve been tired, because the next day, I woke up with a letter on my bed. 'Sorry. I had to go. Love you. Love, Tommy' I squeezed the letter to my chest and got ready for school.
Later that day, after school was over, I was lying on my couch, watching TV, when the doorbell rang. "Hmm. Must be Tommy," I thought to myself. Inran to open the door but when I opened it, Tommy wasn't there.
It was Archee. He looked at me with a fierceness so sharp, that it made me inhale deeply. "You!" he said quietly," You knew Adelyn loved Charlie. Yes you did! How could you not? Your one of the most popular seniors on school! Well it hurt her when you went out with Charlie. I love Adelyn, and I can't let my Adelyn hurt, so now Im going to make you hurt like you hurt her!" He started to mutter to himself. My instinct was to slam the door, but he had nudged his foot In the way. He pulled a gun from his pocket. "No. You can't hurt My Adelyn anymore." He aimed at my forehead, ten pulled the trigger.
