McKenna sighed, half an hour till schools out she thought. When it was ten to three McKenna silently dozed off. "Your assignment is to write a story McKenna." McKenna woke with a sudden jerk. "Umm… okay Mr. Maher, when is it due?" The class burst out laughing. She went red with embarrassment.

Copper haired Linda nudged McKenna. "Hey, did you hear that! Our assignment is on we have to write a story. I can not wait to get home and start. We have three weeks to complete it." So she started skipping to their lockers. McKenna twirled a long strand of her soft, wavy light brown hair and ran to catch up. "Geez, I didn't hear that! And a story? So lame. We have done this like twenty million times. No probs." Laura tutted and added "It's a SHORT story, not long you know? He did say there's a limit. Five pages, five hundred words, five to ten chapters. Weren't you listening?" Laura sounded frustrated and started pulling her shortish dark brown hair.
Laura kept on talking " You may top the class in writing a story but how do you go if there is a limit? I have never seen you write a short story before. This will be interesting!" Laura smirked and started for Teresa and Penelope. "Sometimes, just sometimes, she gets on my nerve" McKenna complained to Linda through clenched teeth. "Pfft, don't worry about her. You are good at things she isn't and Laura at things you aren't. Just stay calm for me k?" As Linda and McKenna walked off slowly towards the bus and talked about the assignment someone was creeping up behind them…
